In case you missed it, columnist Gerry Fraley points out in this week's Just Venting that without Bill Belichick at his side, Bill Parcells' sides haven't been very good. He also predicts Terrell Owens won't be satisfied. |

Typical column from Mr. Sunshine. Can he write something positive about local sports? Does anyone else notice that there is always a better situation somewhere else? He is the consumate New York columnist. Take away Rangers pitching, Bill Parcells, T.O., and Don Nelson and what would he be able to write about locally?

You guys really miss the days when you could beat your drums and the latest Jerry-puppet would open practice, put Chad Hutchinson in at your behest, or waddle around Sea World wearing a diving suit, don't you? Ah the heady days when the sportswriters were the toast of Texas Stadium.

I'm a Cowboys fan who lived many years in Madison Wisconsin before moving to Texas. I can say without question that it is much more pleasurable and fun to be a Cowboys fan away from the poison of the local media. Sorry guys, but the daily dose of Chicken Little just drains a person.

What a lousy argument. That must be why he quickly jumped to another topic after his shots. The bottom line is this: every crappy team Parcells takes over gets progressively better every year often leading to a Super Bowl appearance, then he leaves. You can complain about his inability to stay with one franchise to form a dynasty, but the bottom line is that every team he takes over stinks and when he leaves they're well above average if not champions. Further, in order for his argument to hold true, you would have to believe that Belichick had all of the brilliant ideas and that Parcells stood around saying, "Geez, this guy is brilliant. I'm glad we're doing things his way and not mine. I would have screwed this whole thing up." Belichick deserves all the respect in the world because his philosophy has brought several championships to the Pats. The Parcells philosphy (seems real close to the Belichick philosophy) is getting us there. Unfortunately, when Parcells arrived this team sucked and needed multiple years for a complete makeover.

It sure makes things easier to get to the playoffs when you have great QB's. They have had 2 of them since Belichick arrived at N.E.
First Drew Bledsoe took them to the playoffs, then Tom Brady. Who has Bill Parcells had?
First Quincy - got to the playoffs with him...wow!
Next, Testiverde?
Now Bledsoe and we would have made it last year if we had not lost Flo.
Parcells knows this, you normally need a dominating Defense first, so he has been concetrating on than, and good QB play.
The good QB play means a good O-Line. That is why both Bills usually need 4 years to get to the big dance. If we could have shored up the O-Line sooner we would have but not many Eric Williams out there in Free Agency. Only Hudson Houck could have made this O-Line any better.

You usuallly see stories like the one written by Gerry Fraley come out after a reporter has had his feelings hurt by the coach. Bill must have walked past Gerry without saying hi.... : (

The "Parcells has never won without Belicheck" talking point is seductive but stupid. Belicheck was the *defensive* coach for teams that improved in all phases. Wall Belicheck's influence responsible for the improvement of the Giants/Pats/Jets on offense and special teams? Also, the "never won a playoff" game is an accounting gimmick that dismisses as a "failure" taking a 5-11 team to 10-6 with Quincy Carter and Troy Hambrick in the two key offensive positions.

How good was Belichick without Tom Brady or Parcells bringing in half his team again?
Posted by TheLastGunslinger @ 10:48 AM Tue, Sep 05, 2006
This is Parcells' worst go at coaching, and he's showing he knows he's slipping. Never in the northeast did he act like he has by pandering to star players as he had Vanderjagt and eldorado owens. We should release Parcells and owens.

Golly, by Fraley's logic I guess we could also say that Dave Campo's been to more Super Bowls than Jimmy Johnson. Besides, he's just repeating something he heard on ESPN. That comparison is old.
Who will say that the Cowboys' roster before Bill came is better than it is now? If Parcells never wins another Super Bowl, does that mean he hasn't done a good job of retooling a moribound franchise stuck at 5-11 mediocrity?
There's a shtick or a "bit" going on here where people need to feel superior about something, so they take a negative approach to everything. That's Fraley.

Its absolutely embarrassing to compare a Hall of Fame coach to Wayne Fontes. How many super bowls and championship games has he been to,also belichec won super bowls with some key parcell players and both possibly 2 future hall of fame QBs
Posted by Snarky McAnagus @ 11:51 AM Tue, Sep 05, 2006
Oh, by the way, Belichick hasn't won a Super Bowl without Charlie Weis. Pass it on.
Posted by Mark @ 12:42 PM Tue, Sep 05, 2006
It is easy to make arguments one sided with half the facts. Parcells hasn't won a superbowl without LT, but he made Otis Anderson a winner. Its a ridiculous premise.

Now even the "tease" writer on Sports Day is getting into the act (could it be Fraley?) in promoting the blog. So if you haven't won a Super Bowl, you haven't "been very good". Guess Mike Holmgren can't coach without Bret Favre.

Gerry Fraley is one of those "opportunists reporters" who look for controversy to get extra read for his columns. It is really sad that The DMN prints articles like that.
Posted by Artis Carrol @ 1:56 PM Tue, Sep 05, 2006
Gerry, give it a rest. Your negativity is getting old fast. I applaud the fact that you clearly are not a "Cowboy kiss-up" but geez, how about a little optimism?
Tuna is head and shoulders the best Cowboy Coach sine Jimmy Johnson and he's clearly upgraded this roster.
And as far as comparing him to Wayne Fontes? That's just low.

Fraley is a joke, to say Parcells is nothing without Belichick is just stupid inflammatory journalism. I understand you have a job to sell papers, but guy's like Fraley are unimpressive. Dallas is lucky to have Parcells and if he left today we'd be way better than we were before he came.
Posted by Leeann @ 5:33 PM Tue, Sep 05, 2006
The Cowboys were in such a mess before Bill Parcells came here. He is a very good coach and so is Bill Belichick.
When Parcells does leave the team will be better than when Dave Campo left.
