McBriar scaling new heights

Just a quick update for you on the young Mosley's favorite Aussie. Mat McBriar's gross punting average is now up to 51.8 yards per punt. For a frame of reference, that's a full two yards better than Oakland's former Aggie great Shane Lechler and four yards ahead of everybody else in the league.
The Cowboys' season record is held by Sam Baker at 45.4 yards. Looks like a 44-year-old record may be toppled.
Think that's what they will be talking about around the water coolers Monday morning.

Kudos to McBriar. He stopped by to sign autographs one of the days I was at training camp and seemed like a really class guy.

I told him then he was going to the Pro Bowl this year - he looked at me in disbelief when I said it but he's making my prediction look real good now.

Anybody out there know what happened to make punting averages drop so much in recent decades? I wasn't even born in 1963 and almost all NFL records are much, much newer because athletes are so much better now. And this is the age of specialization--we haven't had a regular quarterback-punter since Danny White's heyday in the early 1980s.

Forget the glamour positions: At this point in the season, Mat McBriar is the Cowboy's MVP! Next question?

The balls they use now are brand new as opposed to the ones they used to be able to work in before games. The new balls are harder to kick.
