Boston Globe NFL writer Ron Borges says Tony Romo has now supplied the league with enough tape to seal his fate.

Seems a bit premature to me. What do you guys think?

Show work.

Yeah, I was one of those stupid people who thought T-Ro was gonna play for ten years and never lose a single game. Boy, do I feel like a dunce.

I guess Borgie missed Romo dropping 31 on the Falcons last week.

I still have faith in Romo. I believe that he can be the best in the NFL at the QB position. But... he has to focus. He has to remember that the game is all that matters. And, Romo needs to ditch the distractions. Tony Romo, if you are listening and reading... take my words to heart... if you don't manage to pull it together for the next two games, we likely won't be seeing you next year. Your boss won't put up with it. Think about that Tony. If you aren't playing for the Cowboys... you likely won't be playing with those tight looking little ladies. Get your priorities straight and the world can be yours!!

Tony Romo seems to have the skills needed to become a very good QB. While teams 'have enough tape' to 'catch' up with him, hopefully he is, at the same time' catching up' to the way teams play him. Remember, he is still a very green QB as far as actual playing time.

Just another voice knocking someone. I have to agree that the 'Boys don't look like a superbowl team, but we don't have to point any fingers, and we don't have to knock anyone in the process.

That Boston reporter views are wrong, to say the least. Sure, Tony has not played like he did against Tampa, but come on! These past few humiliating losses have little to do with Romo and everything to do with the following:

1). A sieve like Defense with more holes than Swiss cheese.
2). Poor offensive line play.
3). An old, over the hill, coach living off his New York good days. Face it, Parcells was never as good as he and the NFL think. He won one sure Super Bowl and he should thank his lucky stars for Roger Craig and Scott Norwood for the gifts which were his second Super Bowl triumph.
4). How is it Romo's superior play AT the Giants and AT the Falcons is so easily forgotten? If it wasn't for him, we would have been 0-4 in our last few games.

If Romo is in trouble, just think how much trouble Tom Brady is in. I doubt he'll ever win another game considering all the tape on HIM.

Posted by Bernardo @ 7:51 AM Fri, Dec 29, 2006

I hope it isn't as simple as the O stinking the joint because people figured out Romo (who also watches film I would think) and TO dropping passes.

Oh, and the entire D fell off because of Ellis getting hurt?

Is there room for an "idiot sportswriter" in this universe.

Wow Ronny, don't let facts get in the way of your opinions now won't you!!!

Posted by Andrew Glickler @ 8:08 AM Fri, Dec 29, 2006

Well, Romo is not perfect and surely he could have played better. But, he doesn't play defense, he doesn't call plays (four runs from the goal line??), he doesn't run block, catch passes . . . you get the idea. He's not perfect, maybe not even great. But he's not the only, or primary, reason the Cowboys are tanking in December just as they have for so many years now.

Someone who knows nothing about football.

Posted by joey Walnuts @ 9:30 AM Fri, Dec 29, 2006

bob..two thing are sure in this world...romo is a pee-wee QB...and TO is a punk...thank you for my christmas gift...

Posted by Jeff L. @ 9:34 AM Fri, Dec 29, 2006

I don't know, it seems pretty accurate to me. Tony is struggling, but it's more of a team problem than a Tony problem. The first and goal example was a good one. Flip it around and put the Eagles on offense. If they handed it to Westbrook 3 times from the 2, do you think he gets in??

Posted by Matt Boyd @ 9:47 AM Fri, Dec 29, 2006

Plenty of tape on Tony huh? Well seems like all those years of tape on Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees are really helping people out too!

Posted by Fellow @ 9:54 AM Fri, Dec 29, 2006

Yup, he's right. It is all over. Maybe we could bring Quincy back, I heard (although this is only a rumor) he may be free.

I'll pose the same question we heard early on in Romo's run, and one that is posed due to his replacing Bledsoe...can Romo be Brady II? I still believe he can, he's shown the smarts, tools, leadership, poise, all he needs to improve on I believe is the in-game wisdom. All in all, why has he made the mistakes he's made for the most part? If you'll notice it's due to his feeling he MUST drive the offense down the field as quickly as possible leaving enough time on the clock to outscore the other team since he knows his defense stinks and won't stop the opponent. What made Brady so successful when he took over for Bledsoe? It was a tremendously consistent defense and strong running game, OH...and Brady was on a TEAM that played like a TEAM, not having to deal with a WR who has to have the most quiet 17 TDs in NFL history (maybe that's due to them not coming when they're truly needed). Romo will lead this franchise for years to come, the quicker T.O. leaves the sooner we'll see him progress toward perfection.

I think Romo will be fine.. Because he is a REAL football guy ? he studies football.. he studies the history of this game and the players in it.. While he was making his first starts he was reading about Tom Brady.. No film will be able to Rattle him.. Only Thing that can beat Romo is to allow him to think he has the BIG PLAY and he doesn't But he's getting smarter even about that.

Ron Borges points to the 4 stoped running plays at the goal line and the TO drops.

Nothing in the way of content or comment about Romo's play, style or what his weekness may be. Just a catchy Article Heading with a lot of hot air.

Posted by Ben @ 10:15 AM Fri, Dec 29, 2006

Why is a Boston Globe write purportedly analyzing Cowboys game film? Boston fans/writers are so egocentric on their own teams, it is ridiculous. Sports do not exist outside the NE bubble, unfortunately. I think the writer was just bored...

Posted by housefan @ 10:32 AM Fri, Dec 29, 2006

I remember Aikman complaining about getting someone who could catch the ball after Irvin got injured in the Carolina playoff game.
2nd biggest problem for Romo - key drops
biggest problem - bad play calls - not his fault the running game gets stuffed against good defenses.
On his 2nd interception - where was TO - could he not at least been close enough to the ball to interfere with the defender?

Posted by misterbretty @ 10:41 AM Fri, Dec 29, 2006

The idiocy of the article is that the author assumes that the only adapting is being done by the defenses. One would think that the offensive game plan would be adjusted as defenses adjust -- and presumably Romo would work on developing a comfort level with different aspects of his game which would then force defenses to adjust, and so on.

Given that Romo apparently rebuilt his throwing motion and learned the game through sheer determination and work ethic, why would anyone think that his development will somehow stop the moment he became a starter?

Posted by Larry @ 10:41 AM Fri, Dec 29, 2006

No kidding Bob, no one expected this guy to be perfect, or , mayby somebody did based on the downers we hear now. Look beyond the stats. This kid has all the qualities and all the makings of an excellent NFL QB. Give him a training camp and preseason as the cowboy starter and most of his "rookie" mistakes will vanish. He is one smart kid.

Posted by Kevin @ 11:29 AM Fri, Dec 29, 2006

It's tough for any quarterback to have to compensate for a truly abysmal defense every single week...

Posted by Conrad @ 4:57 PM Fri, Dec 29, 2006

Although Romo is not a rookie, he is a relatively inexperienced QB. He is a decent QB and will get better. The Cowboys can move the ball and score points.

I think Borges' aim was off: the real problem is the defense, especially after Romo took over. Romo has little to do with no pass rush and spotty safety play.

Posted by Mike @ 5:35 PM Sat, Dec 30, 2006

First off...Borges needs to get his facts straight. It was 3 Marion Barber runs from the one after a first-down pass to Fasano.

Sorry that I'm just now getting to this, but here in Houston, David Carr provides so much comic relief that it's hard to keep up with everything else. Re: Ron Borges. If NFL coordinators have finally figured out Romo, then the Titans better dump Vince Young while they can still get a draft choice for him. Young has a passer rating of 69.7, which puts him behind such point-producing dreadnaughts as Brad Johnson, Charlie Frye, and Carr. Coordinators have figured out Young so well that they've let his team win all but two of his starts, obviously because they feel sorry for him. I tried to take my comments directly to the horse's mouth (or possibly the opposite end), but MSNBC doesn't provide a mechanism for offering feedback to its sports columnists. I wonder why?!!
