"We're 12-2; Rex is our qaurterback". This is the most ridiculous assesment of Grossman yet!
Posted by garyt @ 4:50 PM Thu, Dec 21, 2006
The Bears play in the worst division, and they won nearly as many games last year with Kyle orton at QB.

That guy must have a twin brother because no one person can be that stupid.

Matt, a poll on the site asks if Grossman is Pro Bowl worthy (three choices are given - yes, no, maybe as an alternate); of the some 6,500+ responses as of this writing - more than half categorically say NO. Haugh appears to have taken on his beat bias a little too far.
Posted by Jim @ 4:53 PM Thu, Dec 21, 2006
thanks for the funny column matt...i wonder if he is actually serious that grossman should be a pro bowler...what's funny is if you answer the poll question not even the fans think he is a pro bowler.

Hallucinogens must be cheap in Chicago this time of year.

Wow. Grossman's team is awesome. He is not. Of the 14 games he has played this season, here are his 4 worst:
Every QB is entitled to a stinker now and again. These don't even qualify to be in that category.
Posted by Fellow @ 5:08 PM Thu, Dec 21, 2006
He may be right. Think about it, is not like Romo took a dying team and got them to be to in the position of winning their division. It is not like he brought back the joy of watching an offense. No he is not a pro bowler, since we all know the Pro Bowl is based on stats and not popularity.
Posted by E-man @ 5:11 PM Thu, Dec 21, 2006
LOL!!!!!!!!!!! That's funny

That guy should be stripped of all rights to be a sports writer. Rex Grossman is in NO way a Pro-Bowl quarterback. Heck, he is a questionable starting quarterback. If not for that Bears defense Chicago may have a worse record than the Cowboys. He may need to undergo a psych analysis after that column. Should we remind him of Rexy's 1.4 Passer rating a few weeks back?!?!?!?
Posted by david @ 5:19 PM Thu, Dec 21, 2006
"Grossman has been in charge of a Bears offense that has scored more than 30 points seven times, the team's highest total in a season in 50 years."
How many points were defensive or return TDs? Devin Hester has something like 6 returns for TDs, was Grossman blocking for him or something? Maybe Romo should get points for holding on kicks..
Posted by E-man @ 5:20 PM Thu, Dec 21, 2006
"Romo does not make the Cowboys better any more than Grossman does the Bears"
This quote proves the author's office does not receive fresh oxygen.

Lordy, Rex Grossman would probably be among the last QB's in the NFC I would have voted for. This sportswriter just proves that, as a sportswriter, you can come up with some kind of stats to support almost any conclusion. I wonder if this guy has noticed that Grossman is the 10th rated QB in a 16-team NFC with a 77.5 QB rating.
Posted by Michael Fleet @ 5:32 PM Thu, Dec 21, 2006
Hey Matt...this guy is worse than Gerry Fraley. Do you think he even watches the games? BTW...is Frales still around?
Posted by Gavin L @ 5:36 PM Thu, Dec 21, 2006
This guy is clearly on crack. Grossman doesn't scramble and make either of the throws to Witten to setup game-winning field goals (@Wash, @ NY). I understand the hesitancy to "crown" Romo after so few starts, but would anyone take Grossman over Romo if they needed an 80-yard game-winning drive with 2 minutes to go?
Posted by Cowboyfan @ 5:37 PM Thu, Dec 21, 2006
Jon Kitna had a better season than grossman that is not saying much though..
Posted by Bernardo @ 5:44 PM Thu, Dec 21, 2006
How is it that the site poll does not have an option to vote 'no' for Grossman "BECAUSE HE SUCKS!!!?"
Oh, and having a game against Tampa that allows a QB to 'regain' his form does not lead to Pro Bowl consideration.
Is this guy Mariotti's cousin?
Posted by Curtis @ 5:48 PM Thu, Dec 21, 2006
What the hell is this guy smoking???
Grossman has been in charge of a Bears offense that has scored more than 30 points seven times
(how many of those points are offensive points that are because of Rex Grossman NOT MANY)
Romo does not make the Cowboys better any more than Grossman does the Bears, and who is more likely to take over a game by getting hot (is he crazy?? Does one really think that we would be where we are with Drew Bledsoe??)
I just dont buy Grossman deserving it any more than Romo...
I do however agree that after only 8 starts, it doesn't neccesarily make him a Pro Bowl quarterback..
Posted by Dave @ 6:18 PM Thu, Dec 21, 2006
Thanks for the laugh, Matt. I thought I was reading "The Onion" for a minute!
Posted by PackMan @ 7:44 AM Fri, Dec 22, 2006
I agree Curtis. 8 games does not justify a Pro Bowl start. Let's see how he does a full season first.
Posted by Tony D @ 8:31 AM Fri, Dec 22, 2006
Grossman is overrated. If it were not for the defense and the return game, I think he would stink it up more. When a QB is given a short field it's easier to score points. Check out the drives Romo puts together from deep within his zone. I think this guy doesn't see how bad Rex is in the couple of games he threw more than 3 INT's. Anyways, I wasted my time reading his article.

I think the point the columnist was trying to make is that Romo probably doesn't deserve to be in the Pro Bowl. Based on his stats, Romo is not much better than Grossman. Plus, Romo has not even played half a season.
Posted by cory @ 12:12 PM Fri, Dec 22, 2006
Grossman has only 6 more touchdown passes, and roughly 800 more yards than Romo in 7 more starts. The Bears win despite Grossman, not because of him.
Posted by tony flores @ 12:18 PM Fri, Dec 22, 2006
In three more games we'll know if romo
did deserve the pro bowl. One more time he'll
silence the critics.
Posted by Eric @ 2:12 PM Fri, Dec 22, 2006
This is what I emailed the columnist: You can't be serious in believing Rex Grossman should be in the Probowl over Romo. Now I would even accept for you to say Griese who never took a snap should be over Romo but not Grossman. He is going to be the reason Chicago makes an early exit from the playoffs. The players and coaches count 2/3 of the Probowl votes and they didn't think he deserved it but they thought Romo did and he only started half the seaon. That should tell you something about how the players and coaches around the league think of Grossman. His name says it all. He is gross.....man!!!
Posted by chris @ 4:22 PM Fri, Dec 22, 2006
Make the column about Romo not deserving the pro bowl, fine. You can make an argument for that. How can a guy most of the country thinks should be benched go to the Pro Bowl? Grossman may be the league's worst player over the last 10 games.
Posted by George @ 8:45 PM Mon, Feb 05, 2007
Rex Grossman didn't play a good game but look how young and inexperienced he is. I'm sure all the negative comments in here has him crying all the way to the bank to cash his million dollar bonus for making it to the Super Bowl! Rex will be back and few quarterbacks have that on their resume.
Posted by Ken @ 8:49 AM Tue, Feb 13, 2007
Yea.....he'll be back? ha@! ha@! Get over it guys....He was in the super bowl and choked....just like he did the last 8 games of the season (I'll give you that Tampa one) Seriously, Chicago better go find a QB.....you can't count on that defense to keep winning you games.
