Parcells: 'Don't put the flowers in the hearses'

  E-mail   News tips

A defiant Bill Parcells circled the wagons at Valley Ranch this afternoon. He took several swipes at local reporters, saying "it's either the outhouse or castle around here."

He then asked if we wanted him to take a "Hypocritic [sic] Oath." I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt on that one and assuming he was cracking a joke.

His overall message was that if he could've been guaranteed a playoff spot when the team was still in Oxnard, he would've taken it. Never mind that his club could've put itself in much better position.

Parcells ended his spirited news conference by saying, "Now I'd like to get to practice. Have a nice day, folks!"

This will go down as one of the top five most entertaining news conferences of the Parcells era. You really owe it to yourself to listen to the replay. I'll see if I can dig it up for you.

Basically, Bill's whole point was that no one in the NFC scares him. He doesn't know what to expect from his team, but then, he has no clue what the other teams will do either. He used the Eagles as an example of a team that appears to be on a roll now, but reminded us how down and out they were a little more than a month ago.

"We need to put more pressure on the QB, which I will admit has been a problem lately."

Halleluia! The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.

As always, a very entertaining conference.

I think Bill needs to reconsider turning the games into shootouts.
Romo is good enough to win at least 50% of shootouts.
The running game and our defense do not scare anybody.
Romo throwing the ball early and often (and taking our chances on TO) are the only possibility for success.

Now that was the funniest press conference I've seen in a while,if you guys can, watch it,I'm still laughing!Way to go Bill.

Although Bill's thoughts are true about 'nobody scaring him' and about how down Philly was, Philly wasn't stomped like Dallas has been against New Orleans and Philly even when they were going through their slump. Yes, anything can happen...but it never bodes well when teams play ball like we do this late. But I'm hoping nonetheless for a miracle turn-around.

I think Tuna will do whatever it takes to turn this thing around, and I haven't lost any confidence in him. I just don't have any idea what the story is with our defense. Our offense will still score points in the playoffs, our season depends on whether we can get off the field on 3rd down. Everybody wants to blame TO for everything, but the real problem lies on the other side of the ball.

The flowers aren't on the hearses. They're on this teams grave. Bill Parcells is deluded if none of the teams in the NFC playoffs scare him. NO destroyed us, Philly beat us twice, 1-1 against NY, with Seattle and Chicago being unknowns. Any half decent passing teams are going to rip Zimmer's pathetic excuse for a defense to shreds.

Actually Philly was killed. Don't remember the Indy game? I was laughing so hard because the Colts flat out embarrassed the Eagles. My how times have changed.

Seriously anything can happen. Seattle? Are they scary? The Bears the class of the NFC?

it is simple things that are killing the cowboys - simple things..

- Why is it that no one stop checks the Tight Ends on 3rd down.. if you are blitzing you figure the Qb has about 3-4 seconds to get rid of the ball.. Perhaps Jamming the TE and WR for at least 1 of those seconds would help them.. They never Jam them on blitzes !!

ALSO.. I didn't see one quick hit to T.O. or T.G. and I haven't seen a Trick play in a Month !! what gives !!

What scares me about these losses is that this team is getting absolutely manhandled from the start, e.g., midway through Eagle's first drive, it was clear that the defense was being beaten up badly at the line.

Get Terry Glenn the ball more.

To "P" - I do hope you enjoyed the Eagles-Colts game; it will be the highlight of your NFL viewing this season. Cowboys on the way down; Eagles - peaking at just the right time. Plus, the Eagles easily handled the Cowboys this year. Try to keep that in mind this week. The Eagles gained respect the old fashioned way - they earned it!
