Season-defining play

If the Cowboys hang on and win this game, you'll remember Romo's play in the end zone for a long time.

Of course, the Lions have moved into field goal range behind Kitna and the second coming of Raymond Berry.

Gone in 2007...Parcells, Zimmer, TO. Wish were gone...Parcells, Zimmer, TO, Roy W.

Posted by vijay @ 3:02 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Because of this ridiculous defense, Romo will need ANOTHER season-defining play. Zimmer better figure this out soon or he'll be out of a job here and won't get a HC job for a WHILE.

Posted by rs691919 @ 3:03 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

No matter what Romo does, no matter what TO does or does not do, no matter how ineffective the running game is, the story of this team is that the defense can't make a play when it counts. Even Mike Williams gets TDs against them.

Posted by De la Smooth @ 3:03 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

The season defining plays will all reside with Zimmer's disastrous defense...

Posted by David @ 3:04 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

This team is horrible and real team would have put the clamps down on the lions and held them 3 and out but not this bunch of losers.

Posted by Mark in Arlington @ 3:04 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Turn out the lights.

Posted by Jeff in Portland @ 3:05 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Zimmer can't make our guys rush.............nevermind Romo just fumbled and I no longer feel like making a point.

Posted by P @ 3:05 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Tell Houdini to hold onto the stinking ball. What is it going to take to get that guy to hold the ball with both hands?

Posted by kameleon_o @ 3:06 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

4 fumbles from Romo.

17 passing TD's in the last 5 games. Horrible...

Posted by douglasd1978 @ 3:06 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Put a fork in 'em - we're done...

Posted by Gary @ 3:07 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Romo looks brilliant after fumbling. Then Kitna leads the team to a score. Romo fumbles again. This is the most agonizing team to watch. EVER.

Posted by Brad @ 3:08 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

The reason this defense stinks is simple. No pass rush. It is easy to blame the secondary but with no pressure any QB can eat up the secondary.

Posted by Lareign @ 3:08 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

This is absolutely ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. We do not even deserve to be in the playoffs. Not even close.

Posted by Doh! in Springfield @ 3:09 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Can't make our guys rush?!? We had 4 sacks today. We can't cover deep, we can't cover midrange, we can't cover fullbacks. Someone is responsible for these coverage schemes...and it's not Chris Canty. Dude, we're giving up 40 to the Lions!

Posted by pete @ 3:10 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

One and done in the playoffs. It is pretty clear now they are a very average team that simply over-achieved for four games. I can't remember when I saw a defense that was so unable to stop anyone for so long....what is this five games now?

Posted by Jeffrey Wooten @ 3:11 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

"Turn out the lights, the party's over."
I lost my Fantasy League Championship too. Snap!

Posted by Mark in Arlington @ 3:11 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Matt, heres a more appropriate headline for you, Season Defining Stench.

Posted by Phill @ 3:13 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

How to go from Houdini to Dini-who? in one play.

Posted by Matt D @ 3:13 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

These guys aren't prepared, we make no meaningful adjustments at halftime, we play with no urgency or inspiration. Name a coaching staff you would confidently say that the Cowboys coaches could out wit?

Posted by vijay @ 3:14 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

This hurts... Romo is playing like a guy with 10 career starts. So I guess we can expect some up and down with him. But this defense is an absolute embarassment. That was supposed to be the strength and they've given up more than 30 three times in the last 4 weeks. Embarrassing.

Posted by el tito @ 3:15 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Cowboys coaching staff, turn out the lights on your way out of Valley Ranch.

Posted by Befuddled in Bellmead @ 3:16 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Adios Senor Zimmer

Posted by Caveman Dan @ 3:18 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Can't wait to hear Bill's unaccountable mumblings after the game. "You are what you are,"...a tired coach who has lost the fire.

Posted by Mark in Arlington @ 3:20 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

It's a good thing the new billion dollar stadium is open air. It means Jerry (or rather us Arlington taxpayers) won't have to pay for airconditioning and the strong odor of cheese will be able to dissipate during the week.

Posted by Chase @ 3:20 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Bring back Dave Campo!

Posted by gunslinger, garland wasteland @ 3:21 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Keep: Romo, Colombo, Gurode, Newman, Witten, Crayton, Ware, Ferguson. Drop: Bill, Zimmer, Roy, TO, (pick any player).

Let's get our playoff loss out of the way so we can start over.

Posted by Jacko @ 3:24 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Jerry J should be hugely ticked off. I predict he'll lay low (as low as he's able) with his post-game comments. Then after we lose in Seattle, he'll blast this team/staff for their lack of football IQ and inspiration.

Posted by Big Al from Suwanee\ @ 3:42 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Did Sean Payton pass out the Motorola headset monitor codes the Cowboys coaches use or something after they played last time? That was the game the boys went south

Posted by wtbd @ 3:48 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

How loud were the boos at the end of the game? To the melody of Where has my little dog gone-oh where oh where has the defense gone, oh where oh where could it be?

Posted by Ken Klauss @ 3:50 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

Did the real Houdini fumble as much as Romo? The fact he is going to the Pro Bowl is absolutely pathetic.

Posted by joe @ 4:04 PM Sun, Dec 31, 2006

The very scary thing about this team is the defensive scheme, the players playing it, and the investment put into it. It's very obvious they cannot play the 3-4, the LB's just arent very good (except Ware of course). This team is in trouble for a long time!!! You gotta blame Bill Parcels, it's his picks and his scheme.
