The Bill Watch

  E-mail   News tips

It's now been 10 days since the season ended in Seattle and we're still waiting to hear from Bill.

I can tell you that his car is once again in the Valley Ranch parking lot today. He hasn't taken a weekday off since the playoff loss in Seattle.

Some of the assistant coaches continue to filter into the office even though they've been given some time off. I would imagine it's hard to enjoy time off when your future is hanging in the balance.

Mike Zimmer's left the building and it looks like David Lee will be next. I've mentioned that secondary coach Todd Bowles might replace Zimmer, but don't rule out Paul Pasqualoni.

Parcells has relied heavily on him as a sounding board over the past two years.

I heard whispers of problems between Bowles and Zimmer at one point. Coaches are by nature paranoid and I don't think Zimmer liked it that some defensive players displayed more loyalty to Bowles than to him.

Great, let's hire Todd Bowles since he did such an amazing job teaching our safeties how to cover...

Posted by Rob Donaldson @ 2:34 PM Tue, Jan 16, 2007

The more things change, the more they stay the same!!! Take a very long look and FIX the internal problems (i.e. coaches and coaching) and then go out and get a new OC & DC along with a free safety who can cover a receiver better than three coats of Sherwin Williams paint, and a pass rusher with the speed of a cheetah and power of a Catapillar tractor!!!!

Posted by milton thuroughgood III @ 2:46 PM Tue, Jan 16, 2007

I'm not opposed to Bowles so long as he can get pressure on the QB. With consistent pressure even our safeties could look adequate in coverage.

Is Bill's routine this year, after season's end, any different from previous years when he was definitely returning?

Posted by Roxanne @ 2:59 PM Tue, Jan 16, 2007

I think the defense needs an outside influence for motivation. Bowles and Pasqualoni didn't impress me, especially as the defense collapsed.

Posted by steve @ 3:25 PM Tue, Jan 16, 2007

what about someone from the outside for dc and how about dan henning for oc!!!!

Posted by Write Man @ 3:50 PM Tue, Jan 16, 2007

Promoting from within might be their only option, if not the best one. How many coaches would want to join a team that has a lame duck head coach?

Shouldn't the News run a daily box on the Sports Day page? COWBOYS Hostage Crisis: Day 10

Posted by Larry @ 4:04 PM Tue, Jan 16, 2007

You know, it really doesn't matter who the assistant coaches are if Bill will not let them coach, like he wouldnt let Zimmer coach. Like he wouldn't let Payton coach. What a ridiculous situation. Bill can't coach anymore and he is too stuborn to let anyone else coach. Bill, Please Go Away!

The Vatican elects a new Pope in less time than it takes Parcells to decide if he wants to anoint himself for another season. Is there a little chimney above his office where we wait to see black or white smoke? No wonder he can't gameplan for specific foes and sticks to his 'system'. Indecision may or may not be his problem - or it could be procrastination but he'll worry about that tomorrow.

Posted by Jesse Hayes @ 4:33 PM Tue, Jan 16, 2007

How about telling Bill we don't want him back and go get Bob Stoops and have him run our defense.

Posted by Tom F @ 4:46 PM Tue, Jan 16, 2007

I'm sick of wondering if Parcells is coming back or not. I was not impressed with his coaching this past year at all.The team was not prepared to play in any of the big games down the stretch in December. That's his fault and no one else.

Posted by robert de la rosa @ 4:51 PM Tue, Jan 16, 2007

bill's time has come and gone. if thier is a god please bring jimmy johnson back to the cowboys . he should od never been let go. jerry said anybody could take the cowboys to the super bowl but nobody has since jimmy was let go. now don't tell me barry did. we all no it was with jimmy's team. the boys would've won 4 straight bowl if barry had not messed up one. please jerry offer jimmy heaven to come back. he is the only one to take us back to the promise land.

Posted by Chris @ 5:36 PM Tue, Jan 16, 2007

If the problem is the coaching and preparation for the big games, the last guy you want is Bob Stoops!

Posted by Jared @ 7:53 PM Tue, Jan 16, 2007

Even if Bill comes back, it's for one final year. That mean's Bill's a stop gap which is what I'm guessing he's trying to see if he wants to be. What kills me even more is that Bill's always left the coaching bench deep when he's left (see Pats and Jets). Payton looks like a genious in New Orleans so why did we let him go? Now Zim...and Lee's next. I guess Jerry's looking to go with an entirely new staff with a team with good talent now? I just don't get it.

I think Bill is pulling a Costanza.

Posted by RAUL @ 2:02 AM Wed, Jan 17, 2007

The one to blame here for DaBoys woes is no one other than Mr. EGO himself. Jerry Jones. He has never had respect for history, talent or proven winning experience in a coach. Landry and Johnson are proof. Seeing how he has settled for Bill's last days of coaching is proof that he suffers from malignant cataracts. Blurred vision and poor decision making will not take us to the Super Bowl, but creative and hungry coaching will. Out with the old and in with the new...

Posted by James Chumley @ 4:18 AM Wed, Jan 17, 2007

Even if Bill stays or goes, we still need better play from o-line. It looks like Cincinnati is not going to resign Eric Stienbach. Maybe Jerry will back up the Brink's truck and unload again - to someone who may actually earn it.

i remember hearing the cowboys beat the dolphins in the super bowl after burning my face in an accident at school. both my eyes were covered and i would sneak a look at the game when my mother was not looking. i also remember crying when the colts beat the cowboys in the last seconds with thier field goal. i have been a fan since 1965. i love my cowboys.#1 fan in the rio grande valley.

COWBOYS Hostage Crisis: Day 11

Posted by myrex11 @ 9:45 AM Wed, Jan 17, 2007

What is the point of Parcells coming back for one year? We would need a new coaching staff this year as well as after next year. He just doesn't seem to have that killer instinct he used to have. Keep T.O. if nothing more than for a decoy and we desperatly need someone who can run the ball more than three yards before falling down. Every play off team has a deceptive running back.

Posted by David Smith @ 9:46 AM Wed, Jan 17, 2007

I think you are right Big Tom....Bill wants JJ to fire him so he gets paid 5mil+ for 07.

Personally, I don't think Bill gives a damn what anyone thinks about his time in making a decision.

Again, I say, this organization has lacked creativity in so long that this little game going on right now should be of no surprise.

We will have the same predictable news briefings and rationale.

Let it snow!!!!!

Posted by Ray @ 12:36 PM Wed, Jan 17, 2007

I have an idea, how about a new GM too? Or should I say, a GM period.

Posted by JK @ 8:44 PM Wed, Jan 17, 2007

What does the CHART say? Bill stays or Bill goes?
