The thing about Bill nobody mentions

Bill Parcells has said that money's never been a driving force in his decision-making. Of course, it's always easier to say those things when you're making $5.5 million a year.

Just so you know, Bill didn't return to coaching in 2003 simply for the "love of the game." I do think he missed coaching, but he'd also lost quite a bit of money ($8 million or so) in a divorce.

He talks about his simple existence in Las Colinas, but keep in mind that he's got an 8,000 square-foot retirement home on a golf course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. and another place in Jupiter, Fla.

I think the biggest reason he might return for another season is because it's hard to leave $5.5 million sitting on the table. I don't think he's all that worried about having his legacy tarnished by a 34-32 record.

He'll be able to say he left the franchise in much better shape than when he arrived. And he will be right.

We just expected so much more.

Just food for thought.

If he does come back, who has the best shot at replacing Zimmer (he is gone, I'm sure of it)?

I always wondered if he had some big horse racing debts.

I read somewhere that the house in Jupiter Fla.
belongs now to Parcells' ex-wife Judy.
But I guess he could have bought another one.

You have said you are pretty sure Bill is gone. Are you now waffling? Or just throwing this out for conversations sake?

Posted by Brent @ 3:00 PM Tue, Jan 09, 2007

I have heard the "divorce" story before and think that even if it had never happened he would still be coaching somewhere.

Matt, You are so right there is know doubt Parcell's is in it for the money and you were on the mark about him not working as hard as he profess to everyone knows he has Bankers Hours and his own agenda. Ask anyone who is at Valley Ranch oh I forgot they can't talk to the Media..........

If Zimmer leaves and Parcells stays, do they make a run at Jim Mora Jr. to run the defense? He was a pretty successful defensive coordinator at San Fran.

what about the report out of New Jersey that Bill contacted (through a 3rd party as seems to be his M.O.) the giants about their GM vacancy? Seems as though his overture may have been rebuffed but how will that factor into JJ wanting him back if the big tuna is caught dealing from the bottom of the deck? Feb 1st cant get here soon enough

Can the Tuna, right now, while Dallas still has some talent left to salvage the team.

Parcells can make up the difference with a lucrative StarKist endorsement deal.

Parcells is in it for the money? You must be out of your mind! Who would work for MONEY?!?

Posted by kovboi @ 4:33 PM Tue, Jan 09, 2007

phew, glad you got in a post to campaign for BP's departure. i thought you might actually let a full day go by without one!

Posted by chris @ 5:15 PM Tue, Jan 09, 2007

I'm generally a fan of this blog but I must say that questioning a man's motivations and implying that he has sold out is kind of a low blow. I can infer Mosley doesn't think highly of Parcells but there's no need to mudsling like that. I mean, was that whole post, speculating that Parcells essentially is a loaf who likes to take advantage of the system, really necessary? I thought matt was all about keeping the blog as objecctive as possible?

More Parcells bashing from the DMN. How original. What am I paying for this site? I must be an idiot.

Chris...I think to your point, Mr. Mosley has become a celeb with this blog and now doesn't hold back with the speculation and often mudslinging. Good guy I believe still, often very funny and insightful, but I've still noticed some pretty mean-spirited stuff at times for the sake of increased readership I believe.

Posted by DougO @ 10:37 PM Tue, Jan 09, 2007

There's nothing mean-spirited about criticizing Parcells' obvious failures with the Cowboys. It's not bashing, it's just honest and truthful.

Can the Tuna.

I am so sick of these BP apologists, maybe he was greatness at one time, but we all get old and lose something. The guy has a under 500 record the last 3 years. My goodness Jim Mora Jr. just got canned after 3 years. Bill P. did not get it done, what we give him a pass because he won couple of Super Bowls over 15 years ago. coaches who make 5 mil a year should not go 500. I say let him go to New York as GM please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who doesn't work for the money???? Name me 3 NFL coaches who would say, "Don't pay me this year; I'm doin' for the love of the game"? Get real, Mr. Mosley, it's ALL about the money! By the way, how many T.O. stories did you run this year? Controversy, real or conceived, sells papers and you certainly seem to take real advantage of that!
