Tony Romo: The EIU years

One of my favorite writers, Brad Townsend, has provided this account of what Tony was like during college.

You know you've kept your nose clean when your off-the-field trouble consisted of running late for study hall one time.

The only thing that really frustrates me about Tony is that he'd never heard of Eastern Illinois alum Burl Ives, whose Lavender Blue (Dilly Dilly) revolutionized American music and set the stage for a classic skit during the First Baptist Church Kaufman talent show in 1987.

OK, I have to bang out a quick column and then catch a flight to Seattle. I'll be filing reports from Terminal D.

with lingering doubts,

He also sang Holly Jolly Christmas.

I read Townsend's column last night, GREAT stuff! I listened to Spagnola's show this morning, they discussed the Kitna interview where he basically dismantled the 'Boys defense (essentially as he did on the field). The one point I will agree w/Kitna on, Bradie James. He apparently said James looked lost at times on the field, having no clue what was going on. I'm sure James is a nice guy, but if you had to pin this defense's demise on one player I believe it's him. He's the "leader", the play caller, and he has for all accounts and purposes had a HORRIBLE season. He's slow, he has tackled poorly, and he cannot, absolutely cannot cover anything coming out of the backfield.

Ugh, you are leaving from 'Terminal D?' This playoff run isn't off to a good start when the team leaves from that terminal.

Good old Burl Ives huh? What a gentle giant of a singer. Ihope the article about Romo includes the fact that he was All-American at Eastern Illinois for three years, breaking many records while there.

Hey! Now that Cowher is out of football for at least a year, and Parcell's contract expires after next season, M-m-m-m. Maybe Cower could coach the Cowboys. At least they'd have some defense if he did!

You forgot Burl Ives is known for his narration of Christmas shows! Where have you been?!

What we've always wondered - and would love to ask Tony - is if he knew Calli Cox, the EIU-grad and adult film star who (we think) was at Eastern the same time Tony was.

How could you forget Calli's sister, and EIU alumnus, Fonda?

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Plus, Fonda was voted Most Popular and Most Likely to Succeed(sp?).

As a student at the University of Illinois, I got a chance to see EIU play their opening game last season where we beat the heck out of them. I remember standing a couple rows behind their bench and yelling at their QB after an interception "you're no Romo!".. yes, that is the highlight of my life.

Now I must prop one player who is a chatter box, but has all the confidence in the world, #21 Terrance Sanders of EIU. I want to see him succeed in the NFL! He did play with Romo already haha.

Matt, if you need someone to scout all the Illinois talent, I got yo back!
