Our Brad Townsend, perhaps best known to you for his fine stories about Tony Romo's background, was in the media horde that caught Greg Ellis leaving today. Townsend reports that Ellis, who butted heads with Bill Parcells about moving from DE to OLB, said Parcells leaving didn't catch him by surprise. Ellis mentioned that Parcells seemed unhappy at points last season. “You could see it on his face during last year," said Ellis, whose season-ending Achilles injury was a huge blow to the defense. "Obviously, when things went south,, you could see him frustrated.” Ellis, once the franchise's biggest 3-4 hater, said the new coach's defensive scheme will determine if Parcells calling it quits is a big setback to the franchise. “That’s the biggest thing," Ellis said. "That’s going to be predicated on what Jerry does in hiring a new coach. If he hires a coaches who wants to go back to the 4-3, I think then you’re going back and having to re-draft, let a lot of guys go, bring a lot of new guys in. You’re kind of starting over again." Ellis added that the Parcells era wasn't a "complete failure," although he acknowledged that the Cowboys didn't come close to reaching their Super Bowl goals. |
