I'm OK with Wade Phillips getting the gig as long as he agrees to wear a 10-gallon cowboy hat on the sideline, like his daddy did. This isn't about paying tribute to Bum or the great state of Texas. It's about the key to coaching success for the Cowboys. This franchise's great football coaches had unmistakable headwear. Landry had his fedora. Jimmy had his hairspray helmet. Wade Phillips can follow in their footsteps with a Stetson. YEE-HAW!!! |

Dude, Is it the booze or lack of sleep that makes you this wild at 12:38 am? Why not go find a head coach who is cue ball bald?

A big ol' Cowboy hat would look at home on the sideline and really strengthen the Cowboys brand ... at least until the Sombrero takes over. But we gotta remember that Stetson is west coast, Resistol is Texan.
Resistol = country. Stetson = Western.

I just don't see Wade Phillips getting it done. He has never impressed me.

phillips should be the logical choice. dallas needs a Texan to man the sidelines. that would follow texans landry and jimmy. not sure where switzer, gailey or campo were from, but i am pretty sure, not Texas. a New Jersey boy never should have been a Cowboy leader. go get phillips.
any other options that are Texans?

only if he likes to wear them anyway - the trick to a hat is appearing natural. Bum looked like he rode his best roping horse to the stadium, so it worked.
and only if Jerry doesn't feel like he has to start wearing one to compete. His training camp straw is bad enough, with the childhood memories of dads grilling badly that it invokes for most of us, but can you imagine a felt stetson in the winter months when he magically appears on the sidelines?

Remember, Bum didn't wear that hat in the Astrodome. He said his mama taught him to pull his hat off in the house.

So, that's all Parcells needed, a signature head covering! Since he and Rowdy the mascot have such a tremendously wonderful relationship, maybe Rowdy woudl've provided his hat and in turn a Super Bowl victory! Will the red head of Garrett suffice as proper head covering in this case?

AlAlex,
Too bad Bum's mama didn't teach him not to spit on the carpet....

Under current NFL rules, Landry's fedora or Bum's hat would be forbidden unless it had a team logo. Sad but true.
What's the latest on Jason Garrett?
