Ex-Broncos, Giants and Falcons head coach Dan Reeves, a running back and assistant coach under Tom Landry, recently expressed interest in returning to coaching. Not sure if the 63-year-old Reeves, who was fired by the Falcons in 2003, would be a good fit. But I guarantee you the man would be motivated. He basically said he's sick of running errands for his wife and wants to get the heck out of the house. |

Finally... Without knowing how healthy he is, or if he's got the energy level, the search should start here. Class act. Proven. And a true Cowboy. Again, I'm not sure if he is the answer, but certainly worth a conversation.

great guy, great player, too old
need some new blood.

Maybe not my first choice, but Reeves would be a definite improvement over the Tuna. He is a Landry guy who respects Cowboys history, and always an excellent game tactician, which is something the Cowboys have lacked for ions.

Please, please, no more old geezers. The league has passed them by, and we'll get three or four years at the most. I'll pass on Jeeves.

Probably one of Jerry's Lombardi trophies, which he feels he is owed for allowing the Cowboys the privilege of his presence for the past four years.
Either that, or his emergency stash of Twinkies and Ho Hos.

I'd be worried that TO would have COACH KILLER written all over him and old DR would have a heart attack on the sideline.
TO SUCKS the life out of all coaches- we need someone with a strong personality - willing to bench him, deal him or even better just fire his sorry butt- I could care less how mnay meaningless TDS he scored this year- when we needed him- where was he?

Speaking of former cowboys with coaching experience how about an ex cowboy quarterback and an AFL coach with titles in Arizona. The player I'm speaking of is Danny White. Danny never brought a title home to Dallas but he was at the doorstep of the superbowl more than once and what could be a better chance for Mr. White than to win a championship as a coach in Dallas? I am sure his failures to win a championship as a qb would be forgiven then.
I did have one other idea for head coach. The only other college coach aside from Jimmy Johnson I know in the modern era to lead a team to the super bowl was Bobby Ross and it couldn't hurt to interview him.

Dan Reeves? Not interested. Thanks, but no. Old #30 did more than his fair share to build this once proud franchise into a club and an offense of great prominence, but I agree that we need new blood.
So here's a total contradiction: why not Jimmy?! He and Silverhead have made up; certainly he's tired of sittin' at that desk looking at Howie Long every Fall. Isn't he? Hell, I'd be.

For the love of God, these names are making me miss BP already, which I never thought possible.

Dan Reeves or Wade Phillips? the cowboys may not win another game for 3 years with even a serious consideration of those two...this is depressing.

If he's tired of being in the house perhaps Dan should get a part time job somewhere. I'd be willing to interview him at my store.

Would it really be a good idea for a team that can't get over the hump to hire a coach famous for not being able to get his teams over the hump? Reeves had his time, and that time was the late 1980s. It's time to find someone a little younger.

New blood, y'say?
Back in '89, JJ brought in a college coach from a school in Florida who had just recently won a national championship. And I think we know how that turned out.
Why not let history repeat itself?
How about Urban Meyer?

Gary,
Bobby Ross is actually the highest paid federal government employee. He'd be crazy to give that up to come here.

And if we're on the subject of new blood.......I believe I just saw that Bobby Ross just turned 70 last month. Thanks, but no thanks........

Reeves' age aside, consider his Super Bowl record: 0-4. And the Denver losses got progressively worse. Of course, Bud Grant and Marv Levy were both 0-4 and are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. There must be a section of the HOF for "Exercises in Futility."

Jerry wants a drinking buddy, not a granite-faced Landry clone. No disrepect to Reeves, but that guy would make Jerry squirm more than an abstinence lecture at happy hour.
