NFL Hall of Famer Rick "Goose" Gosselin says the Cowboys, who finally seem to have found a quarterback, need to go with an offensive mind. I can't imagine there is anybody better at developing young QBs than Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow. Remember all the draft talk that Vince Young couldn't be a legit NFL starter for at least a season or two? Chow helped him become the Offensive Rookie of the Year. Matt Leinart, Carson Palmer, Phillip Rivers, Steve Young, Jim McMahon and Ty Detmer are among the quarterbacks who owe some of their success to Chow, a former assistant at BYU, North Carolina State and USC. Chow, a native Hawaiian, bolted the college ranks after a few decades in part because of frustration that he never got a head coaching job. The NFL has proven to be much more willing to consider minority candidates than Division I-A schools have been. Jerry ought to at least invite Chow to Valley Ranch for a conversation. |

Can someone explain the Rooney rule to me. Must Jones specifically interview and African American or would another minority, such as Chow count?

Chow would be great for Romo, but for the Cowboys? The problem with this team this season was on the defensive side of the ball. Now, that does not truly mean you must entrust a defensive guy with your head coaching position, but it sure would force the players on that side of the ball to immediately begin playing a bit harder than typical, maybe. Plus, your D-coord. is gone, if you bring in Chow or any other offensive minded head coach who's your D-coord.? Todd Bowles? I could see that happening. But one other issue, would Jerry tell the offensive minded head coach that he must keep the offensive staff currently on the roster? If not, it's a bad move, because believe it or not offense was not the issue this season.

While it sounds great for Romo, I don't think he can handle head coaching the cowboys.

As a BYU alum, I spent alot of hours watching Norm Chow offenses. He would be a great choice to continue Romo's development- and the players really like him.

Regardless of whether the 'Boys hire an offensive- or defensive-minded coach, I want someone who will bring a creative plan to every game and who will be willing to make adjustments as the game and circumstances dictate. Parcells doggedly stuck to what took him to the SB in NY. That was 20 years ago. This is now.

I saw what Chow did with Philip Rivers first hand, it was un believable. He also sems to have gotten Vince Young started on the right path. I would be very happy to have Norm Chow as our new Head Coach.

Some perspective...We are talking a multi-million dollar decision here. Not only salarywise for a head coach, but the sucess of a Cowboys season roles through BIG BUCKS. And, Jerry is a big bucks kind of guy in a business world. I find it impossible to believe that he would sit around and do nothing until Parcels made his decision. I am certain that as soon as the season was over, he started working on people as it was a strong possibility he would be in need of a new head coach. Jerry knows who he is after and is wwaayyy down the road.

I think Chow is a great choice.

Chow would be a great choice. He could further the development of Romo. Plus, he has truly earned his opportunity. Look at his track record, he has been successful everywhere he's been. Hire Chow, promote Bowles as D-coordinator. Please, no more has been retreads!!!

Man, you guys keep my head spinning with all the contradictions. When somebody mentions Dan Reeves, you say Jerry won't likely hire another Old guy. But then you propose guys like Wade Phillips and Norm Chow, who are roughly the same age.
If they go with "an old guy" I'd much rather see them hire the proven Landry disciple, Dan Reeves.

I think Chow would be great for Tony. But I'm with a couple of the other guys about the defense. I think I would really take a good look at mike singletary I think this great will be a heck of a coach when he gets a head coaching job.

Chow isn't even in the top 3 best coaching candidates on the Titans staff. The Cowboys would be much better served taking a close look at:
Dave McGinnis - LB coach and former Cardinals head coach, that didn't have much of a chance there. I always liked his style. And he's a Texas guy (TCU).
Jim Schwartz - Titans DC, a bright young assistant who has had a lot of success with Fisher's defense.
Chow is 61 and has never been a head coach, turning down several offers in the past. Seems like a career assistant type guy.

I like Norm Chow. I think he's a great choice because of his inventive play calling and generally brilliant offensive mind. Hire a good DC who knows the 3-4 I say.
I'm less excited about Phillips. He was somewhat successful in Buffalo, but I'm not that thrilled about Bum Phillips' "kid" running the 'Boys show.

I heard that Jerry Jones is looking at Arkansas head coach, Houston Nutt for some type of capacity in the Dallas organization. What do you think?

If we're going hire Norm Chow, then we may as well bring back Norv Turner. I'm convinced that they both make great coordinators, but not good head coaches.

Then we could call them the "Chowboys"
