Knight: Blame T.O. and the media

Just listened to Parcells pal Bob Knight's interview on Dan Patrick's ESPN radio show. Knight said he thought two major factors -- T.O. and the media -- caused Parcells to call it quits.

Knight, a known media lover who hung up in the middle of yesterday's Big 12 conference call, said he doesn't think any team in sports is more scrutinized than the Cowboys. He thought Parcells was sick and tired of dealing with the pressures and demands brought about by the evil media.

"That's why his [beep] is just worn out," Knight said.

Knight, who you know discussed The Player with Parcells on a few occasions, said he could not imagine dealing with T.O. He said the good guys on a team get agitated by all of T.O.'s antics and the special treatment he seeks.

"All that stuff makes dealing with a team very difficult," Knight said. "I've never seen a situation in all the sports that I follow that I thought was more difficult for a coach to deal with than that one."

There you have it ladies and gentlemen, the Cowboys have become just another statistic...

San Fran ... Philly ... Dallas ...

Still, despite the history, it blows my mind that one person could have this effect. The proof is in the pudding, or I guess in this case, the popcorn. T.O.'s career SHOULD be over.

HMMMMMM, let me think of a more difficult situation in all of sports?? Tough one? Perhaps being a college AD with an erratic, self-absorbed, bullying, abusive, and sometimes violent basketball coach. Maybe a push.

Nice to see the F.O.B.'s (Friend of Bill's) out in force. Knight isn't exactly a media darling.

Posted by thomas @ 3:08 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

TO is ridiculous. I have never seen more meaningless stats from a supposed "all-pro". All of his big games came against crappy teams like the Texans and he constantly complains about Parcells when there is not one other person in that locker room that agrees with him. My favorite is how he was "not treated like a #1 receiver" despite the fact that he had more balls thrown his way than any other player on the team. Please Jerry cut him. The Saints will cut Joe Horn and we can go get him for cheap draft Ted Ginn in the draft and move on from there.

Posted by Corey91 @ 3:17 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

TO is a cancer that needs to be cut period.

TO and Bill are alot alike. They both know how to start building something and then leave it in shambles.
Jerry - The Cowboy fans were violated by these two since they have been here.

Knight reminds me of a character in an old movie I saw in my childhood. His woman told him "EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT BOMBOLINI HAS HIS BRAIN IN HIS [REAR]" (replace Bombolini of Bobby).

Posted by Robert @ 3:40 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

Funny the Dallas Hater media does not know who do trash -- TO or Bill? So many Hater decisions!

Posted by DougO @ 3:54 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

So, Bobby is saying Parcells, who coached two New York teams for 11 years, couldn't handle the Dallas media and fan pressure.

And we're the idiots?

Posted by Efrem @ 4:31 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

I love to hear and read comments that blame T.O. for all that ails the Cowboys. It just solidifies what America has become. And that is "mindless sheep, who immediately believe whatever the mainstream says - never mind that its devoid of any evidence in which to back up their statements - because they are lazy as hell mentally. I mean, God forbid if you go and do your own research. But, then again, by doing that the truth comes out. And, of course, we know all know by now truth isn't what America is all about anymore.

Oh please! When Parcells was hired, one of his comments was that coaching in Dallas was like playing the 'Big Room' in Vegas...you had the smaller venues, but the 'Big Room' is where Elvis and Sinatra played, and that's where he wanted to be. But he's surprised at the attention once he's there??
And T.O.?? Give me a break. Hey coach, if you had TALKED to him once in awhile..you know, make eye contact, have a conversation..that sort of thing, it usually helps! Please. I guess you were too busy trying to figure out how to use the same exact game plan 17 weeks in a row.
Good luck Parcells, welcome back T.O., looking forward to next year!

Posted by roxanne @ 4:57 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

Parcells thrives on attention. Have you seen his news conferences? Get a clue.

Posted by Jeff L. @ 5:04 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

I know it would upset him when he would get asked the same question, perhaps worded differently, about 40 times in a row.
But hey, he could have easily reduced the number of questions he was asked, but that would mean allowing his assistants to speak publicly.

Posted by J @ 5:32 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

Don't blame T.O. blame these old guys for not going the extra mile for adjusting to the NEW PLAYERS in today's sports... it's the very same reason BOB KNIGHT has never regained the GUTS to coach NBA players... MATH PROBLEM: OLD SCHOOL COACH + NEW STYLE PLAYERS * MEDIA = RECIPE FOR DISASTER

Posted by klb @ 5:37 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

Of course knight couldn't deal with it. T.O. is too big for him to choke. I say give T.O. another chance. Running Parcells off should count for something.

Posted by Blake @ 5:50 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

What a crock of bull. Parcells didn't have to give daily news conferences.

HE WANTED TO

Parcells forbid his assistants to talk to the media. WHY?

so BILL could have the spotlight. Bill is just a gloryhound

Posted by Rodney in Nashville @ 6:05 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

Oh wahhhh!!!! Parcells is old and out of touch. He said it himself.

He had to deal with the New York media and decided to have a second go-round with the Jets. It didn't seem to bother him then.

......and could we please, for the love of God, stop blaming T.O. for everything!

Posted by Hoagie head @ 6:24 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

OK - lets not BLAME Owens for everything - just hold him accountable for what he says and when he says it.

Notice that HE'S the spokesman for the Boys now - blaming Parcells (with two rings) for not being able to coach at a higher level.

Yeah - Owens is never at fault, doesn't get the respect, not enough balls thrown to him, blah blah.
I guess what owens wants is a team built around him, where he is the every down number one option.
When Jerry gets a coach that gets with that program, then everyone will understand just how mis-understood and mis-used Owens has been!

Dein will back him up on that too!

Posted by Rodney in Nashville @ 7:58 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

How about you just recognize him for what he is and ignore most of it.

I bet that you're always by your radio or t.v. Hoagie, buying into the next overboard reaction from the media. So you're the one who keeps them in business.

Posted by Chuck Nevin @ 10:25 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007

Honestly, can we really blame TO for everything?

If everyone wants to vent, let's blame Sean Payton for ending the Boys' season. He knew how predictable Parcells was and exposed all of the defense's flaws. After the Saint's game, every team had the perfect blueprint on how to expose the D and they did so accordingly.

TO is not the problem, Parcells inabilty to adapt during the game to a flawed game plan is.

Posted by Troy @ 7:53 AM Wed, Jan 24, 2007

I wonder how many of you will still be on the "To" bandwagon, next year-same time? They should "both" be gone!
