Jerry Jones is on the record -- "Stop the crap!" -- saying T.O. will no doubt be back in a Cowboys uniform next season. But Todd Archer reports that passing game coordinator Todd Haley, who has a hate-hate relationship with No. 81, is one of three assistants Jerry will speak to about replacing Bill Parcells. I promise 16 games worth of free popcorn for everybody who comments on this post if T.O. winds up playing for a Haley-coached team. |

Haley won't be the coach of the team, so it won't matter.
The problem in letting Owens go, is who do you replace him with?? There in no one on our roster to fill that spot, the FA class for WR is the worst in years (Drew Bennett the headliner) and we are not going to find someone in the draft to fill his shoes in 2007, and we're not trading for Moss or anyone like that, so he will be back regardless of who is coaching.
Posted by Brent @ 1:35 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007
there isn't a chance that will happen.
Posted by bruce @ 1:39 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007
Todd Haley is never going to get this job. The guy couldnt coordinate a passing scheme with TO and Terry Glenn lining up against a Seattle secondary that Rex Grossman torched for 300 yards. Jerry Jones would rather eat a one of Todd's rat salads than have that guy as his coach.

I agree---To, as Jim Rome likes to call him, isnt going anywhere. We arent taking a WR in the first round either, we have too many other holes to fill like OL, S, and pass rusher not to mention that the chances are better for WRs who are drafted after the 1st round.

You never know what Jerry will do! Now I am pulling for Haley!
Posted by KG @ 1:44 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007
No chance Haley gets the job. Wade Phillips with Jason Garrett as OC.
Posted by Hungus @ 1:45 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007
Only a moron would think that Todd Haley has a chance to be the head coach of the Cowboys next season.

Sign me up. Dale & Thomas is my favorite popcorn, particularly the Hall of Fame Kettle Corn. You can send that directly to my home.
If there's one thing I've learned in watching Jerry and the Cowboys is that the surest way for something to happen is to say that it will never happen. Case in point: T.O. in a Cowboys uniform.
Looking forward to 16 games worth of popcorn!

I will be shocked if Haley winds up as the new Cowboys head coach. But if that happens I would be expecting the `Boys to go after Cower in a year.

BRING BACK JIMMY JOHNSON!!!
Posted by Merritt @ 1:54 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007
Why would you WANT to replace TO? Because he's loud, obnoxious, cocky and arrogant? Welcome to the NFL kids. The ged rid of TO nonsense is just that. Nonsense. Is it so hard to believe that Jerry will stick with a flashy guy who brings tons of attention to the team? Deion Sanders or Michael Irvin anyone? Jerry likes the attention, and the new coach will just have to deal with TO.

If any current asst. gets the job it will Todd Bowles.

Despite the media's best attempts, TO wasn't bad last season off the field. I admit he wasn't a superstar ON the field, but he was still 9th in receiving yards and first in TDs. Maybe with his finger fixed and entire off-season to work with Romo, he can put together an even better season in '07.
Best bet on new HC is Phillips, though I'm hoping for someone younger and more imaginative, like Stoops or Meyer.

i agree bring back JIMMY JOHNSON and or go for Bob Stoops???

I would say T.O. would be the coach before Haley, especially with the way Jerry is in love with T.O......can I at least get one free bag of popcorn?
Posted by cowboyup @ 3:15 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007
Who wants Phillips? I would much rather see Buddy Ryan's kid (can't remember his name). The defense needs a leader and an attitude.
Posted by scott @ 3:21 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007
If Haley is named head coach his wife will provide TO with a fresh McDonald's salad with some sort of foreign substance in it, and we will have another "attempted suicide/ overdose" story.

The GM for the Bears said some time ago when asked about WR's " They're important -they're just not as important as they think they are"
Listen up T.O. !!!!!!

I am nervous about who JJ will hire as coach. However, this is a good start to the process. Interviewing the three assistants is a smart move. Jerry gets to hear what they think about the issues with Dallas and what needs to be done. It also makes the assitants feel good they were interviewed. I think Jerry already has a good idea who the next coach will be, but he needs to retain the current staff first, then make the announcement.

I loves me some popcorn!

Now all the Cowboy's have to do is go out and get Randy Moss and pick up Keyshawn Johnson's last year and they will be set.
Posted by DougO @ 4:19 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007
Haley is a goner, with or without TO. He brought a lot of that stuff on himself. Assistant coaches should keep themselves out of the headlines.
Posted by Money @ 4:37 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007
Haley won't be the coach so I'll never get my popcorn, but T.O. Owens will be the #1 WR.
Posted by Jeff L. @ 4:50 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007
So, IF Haley were named coach (big IF), you're telling me that Jerry would give him the power to make that call? Questionable at best.
And T.O.? I was braced for the horror that was coming to Dallas, but I can't say I really saw anything of substance. Oh, sure, I read a lot of stories about alleged 'bad' things, but were they really?
Cincinnati just had their 9th player in 9 months arrested, but that's nothing compared to a reciever who questions game plans.
Posted by Stevie D @ 5:13 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007
Yeah right Jerry is gonna let T.O. walk. T.O. gives this team more publicity than it deserves, and JJ knows it. I'll be hitting you up for that popcorn in September, Tim. I sure hope you're right though....

You guys don't get it yet. Owens won't shut up and just play ball, he wants the spotlite on him All The Time and he's ALWAYS in the right!
Pick your best scenario - keep Owens and he's still going to run his mouth about something that will detract from the team - they'll get tired of hearing about him All The Time, week in and week out and then the collapse will come and Owens will go running to Jerry and then you have the third ring of the ultimate Owens Media Circus.
If you don't understand this, you haven't watched what he has done EVERYWHERE he's been.
and he ain't changin.
Posted by Shayne @ 9:32 PM Tue, Jan 23, 2007
It won't be Haley - especially considering the TO issue. But I would like some popcorn also!
Posted by Gary @ 12:40 PM Wed, Jan 24, 2007
Of course, you're free to say that because its extremely unlikely Haley will become coach!
Posted by Sean C. @ 7:43 PM Wed, Jan 24, 2007
Don't think Jerry would hire Haley but it would be worth it just to get rid of TO. For Jones to know if Haley or anyone else can coach he needs to room with the guy like he did with Jimmy in college for away games. Maybe he should invite all potential candidates to the Senior Bowl and try this method?
Posted by Chris J. @ 8:07 AM Thu, Jan 25, 2007
I've got 25 million reasons why that will never happen. *lol*

The new coach coming in has TO already built into his/her (make sure the ladies are represented)contract. Jerry is going to give TO and Romo another chance to make him appear to be a brilliant owner. So TO is here to stay. I like the potiential the guy brings, but you have to take his bad days with a grain of salt. Hopedully JJ will bring in some defensive talent since we did not have a real big issue scoring, but we caught he double hockey sticks, defending.
