A reader asked whether the Rooney Rule applies to all minorities. That is indeed the case, beat man extraordinaire Todd Archer informs me. So interviewing Norm Chow would satisfy the league's requirement. |

The Rooney Rule is goofy, and an insult to qualified minority coaches. The rule doesn't apply to hiring ASSISTANT coaches. Yet, somehow, Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy and many others managed to build their outstanding coaching reputations that earned them their shot at head coaching jobs. The Rooney rule had nothing whatsoever to do with that.

First off, let's hope the application of the Rooney rule really means more than just "satisfying" an NFL requirement. I think all people of good faith and conscience would rather the Rooney rule wasn't necessary. However, the truth is that it has opened doors to many qualified minority candidates whom some old time owners and GMs didn't care to talk to at all. It was and still remains their right, and they abused it. It wasn't that long ago that the entire world was wondering what on earth Minnesota's outstanding defensive coordinator needed to do to even get an interview, much less get hired. I believe his name is Tony Dungy. Dungy's opponent in this year's SB will be one of his first assistants at that first head job in Tampa. Get a history lesson! Recent history.

Now that two "minority" coaches have reached the Super Bowl, aren't we done with the Rooney Rule? We're done, so shut up Jesse and Al! It's over!

Who have the Cowboys interviewed that meets the Rooney Rule requirements?
