Switzer returning to Dallas?

I didn't bump into him yesterday, but I'm told former Cowboys head coach Barry Switzer was walking the halls of Valley Ranch.

A Cowboys official just assured me that Switzer was in the neighborhood and probably wanted to say hello to some old friends.

Did anyone else watch Barry and Jimmy Johnson during FOX's broadcast of the OU-Boise State game the other night?

Made for great theater.

Would Jerry consider bringing Barry back for another run?

I know you think I'm nuts, but I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Compare notes and I'll talk to you this afternoon.

Please, for the love of God . . . NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Jay @ 11:20 AM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

That would be the worst idea ever.

Posted by Rodney in Nashville @ 11:21 AM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

Please Matt, stop the madness! I'd rather see Cody the cat coach this team than Barry. Jerry cannot be that crazy.

I don't even know why I'm reacting to this nonsense.

Posted by Vaughn Jones @ 11:25 AM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

Bill will return next season regardless of the run we make. Romo even though gives him fits is the reason. TO does not bother him and he knows he's his best chance to get it done.

Our current defensive problem can be fixed (can you say Romeo Crennel?). We will make a strong run in the wide-open NFC. Just think of it:

-We dust off the Seahawks
-Win the "rematch vs the Saints
-Beat the Giants in the NFC Championship game IN DALLAS (no I'm not smoking anything....lol)

And play the Ravens in the Super Bowl.

Wow!! I'll be a prophet for predicting this.....lol.

Go Boy's!!!!

You mean he got thru airport security without a detour thru the county jail?

Posted by Clint @ 11:37 AM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

You mention two former Cowboys coaches. I think it would be much better to mention Jimmy Johnson returning to the Dallas sideline than Barry "Oh is that gun mine" Switzer.

Posted by Robert @ 11:39 AM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

Crennel is nice and BP loves him but Dom Capers is nicer. See what he did in Miami with that group of 30 somethings?

Posted by Robert @ 11:40 AM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

Media loves Switzer. He is an affable buffoon that is always good for a quote. Better than BP, he treats the media like the more-oohhnnns they are.

Posted by Bobby Rowand @ 11:47 AM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

God help us all. I am a diehard Cowboy fan but if they brought him back I would think about switching. He was never devoted to coaching this team. Leaving to watch his son play college football when we had important games that week. No way I would want him back. Now Jimmy on the other hand, would love to have the dream team back together Jimmy, Norv, and Butch along with Avezanno.

Posted by misterbretty @ 11:51 AM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

I don't know about Barry, but why not Jimmy? If Jerry Jones showed as much respect publicly to Jimmy as he does to Parcells, it's doubtful Jimmy would have ever left.

Who knows, maybe they would have won 4 straight super bowls...

Here's another name, Steve Mariucci. Favre credits him with his development when he was QBs coach in Green Bay. I'll bet he could really develop Romo into something special as well.

Posted by Tonatiuh Anda @ 11:57 AM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

You gotta be kidding Matt.
I echo Rodney, definitely vote for Cody the cat over Barry...

Posted by Bigfan @ 12:00 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

I would rather have Switzer than Big Bill, but I don't see Switzer returning to coaching.

Now Jimmy.....just maybe.

Posted by Eric T. @ 12:08 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

I'd rather read about Carrie Underwood and Jessica Simpson than read about Barry Switzer coming back. No mas!!!

Posted by James @ 12:33 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

No way Barry comes back, the NRA won't allow it. Perhaps if Jerra let Stephen take over, they could get Jimmy to come back, I think he has said in the past that is one way he'd come back. I think Bill will be back but with a new DC. Boys 38 Seahawks 28.

You heard it here first!
Under the "Is Bill Coming Back?" heading:

I think Barry Switzer is available.

Switzer may be qualified to coach Rowdy on how to stay off the field during warm ups. Since Seattle is an away game, we don't need either.

BP closed this subject with a meeting will be held "After the Season is Over".

How about some Seatle VS Dallas football Playoff news?

Posted by Tommy K @ 12:39 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

I wouldn't be surprised if he is lobbying for the job! He was given the job before when the foundation had already been laid and did pretty good with it for a couple of years. It would also be an excellent way to open up a new stadium. We could even change the team name to the Dallas Oilers seeing as how Houston became the Dallas Texans while everyone in the stands wears KC hats and we'd all have a completely screwed up turn-back-the-clock day!!! I love it already!

Posted by Terry @ 12:41 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

Barry Switzer is the worst NFL coach to ever win a Super Bowl. Go ahead, take a poll - bet he comes in dead last. Even Matt could have taken that Cowboys team to a Super Bowl! Please let's not tarnish this perfect blog with any more talk of Jerry's mistakes. I say Parcells stays until he gets the ring. If not, get Jimmy back in Big D!

Posted by Tommy K @ 12:47 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

I don't know if Barry S. is the right fit. However, if Jerry J. can wait a few more years I should be available. I have at least 10 yrs experience playing Madden. In it I started using the 3-4 before Billy P. came up with the idea and I'm an unbelievable play caller. I can't even keep track of all the Super Bowls that I've won. I'm sure I can be had for a whole lot cheaper than anyone else out there!

Posted by Blake @ 12:50 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

Look at Switzer's record, then see how many idiots have posted in this thread.

Say what ya want, the man is a winner

Posted by S L @ 12:56 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

He's just looking for a plane ride back to OK. Rose Parade, Fiesta Bowl, Dallas - sounds like he's just hopping corp jets wherever they'll take him. Maybe they don't let him fly commercial any more.

Posted by Victor @ 12:59 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

Jimmy pls come back. If & when Bill decides to leave.
Which I believe will be AFTER '08.

Posted by S L @ 1:01 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

btw, thanks for finding that photo - what a hilarious moment. Barry couldn't wait to rip that thing out of Jerry's hands, and Jerry couldn't believe he had to hand it to him. Has anyone ever dared to say 'baby!' to Jerry since?

Posted by Tom F @ 1:06 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

If Jerry brings in Switzer to coach, I'll start rooting for the Jets pronto

Posted by ernest t bass @ 1:08 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

These types of silly questions are thrown out to us unsuspecting fans like bones to dogs, meant to divert our attention from the lack of content and at the same time increase blog traffic numbers. It appears that Mosley receives very little help with the maintenance of this blog. Bless his heart.

Posted by Tony - New York @ 1:26 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

Perhaps Jerry should be thinking ... new blood ... youth, fire, energy, intelligence, vision, bold. If you look up those words you'll see a reference to Eric Mangini. So, Dear Tom F., from one 'Boys fan to another, rooting for the Jets ain't so bad anymore!

Posted by Walter in Buffalo @ 1:31 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

I don't see Barry or Jimmy returning to the sideline, but I could see Parcells, Jimmy & Barry battling it out on the next "Dancing with the Stars".

Posted by Jon Cook @ 2:02 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

I will never forget Letterman calling him "Snoop Switzy-Switz" after that airport incident.

Posted by Malcolm @ 2:38 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

Matt,

You really need to quit playing with peoples emotions! It's bad enough that we've gotten drubbed three of the last four.

Posted by barry's a boob @ 2:47 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

I have been a Cowboys fan for 30+ years. JJ brings that idiot Switzer back and I am done. Matt, please forward the sentiments of everyone posting here to JJ.

Posted by Ray @ 3:49 PM Thu, Jan 04, 2007

Matt, you're absolutely right. I DO think you're nuts.
