I'm fascinated by Paris Hilton's love life, in part, because I know every time she's linked to someone it will be over before the milk in my fridge expires. I'm back to thinking the same way about Jerry Jones and coaching hires. But at least when Paris' relationships fail, they're over that night, not contractually bound for three years. By the way, I refer to Jones as The Commish when he does something as an owner because he's been the NFL commissioner the last 15 years (new stadiums, blockbuster TV deals, free agency -- all the stuff Tagliabue got credit for? -- was really Jerry's doing.) But I refer to Jerry as Lloyd Christmas when he does something as GM. There was a moment of hope when Bill Parcells came on board. But Lloyd is back to hiring offensive coordinators before he hires coaches. Once again, there is no clear chain of command (which in T.O.'s case is like giving Walker and Texas Ranger the freedom to go at Chip like a spider monkey). We're back to the Lenny & Squiggy Years (when Gailey, then Campo were Lloyd's caterers). Wade Phillips just got an Oakland Raider-like three-year deal with an option (same deal given by the NFL's version of The Office to Lane Kiffen). Those are the kind of deals you give to someone you're not sure about. Or in this case, it's the kind of deal you give to someone hoping that in three years Jason Garrett is the next Sean Payton. Love The Commish as an owner. But I told Jacques Taylor when we were covering the Cowboys together in 2002 that Dallas wouldn't win another playoff game with Lloyd as GM. We're at four years and counting from that statement, and of course, 10 years and counting from a 40-15 win against Minnesota in the NFC wild-card game. Now, if you'll excuse me, gotta get back to my US magazine. (I wonder how Paris will age. Have this vision of her as a blond Joan Collins in constant Dynasty mode by age 30.) |

Darn it all, Chip, that fan in Buffalo is right about you. On top of everything else, you've gone and spelled Lane Kiffin's last name incorrectly. What a crime!

Chip,
Why don't you freakin grow up??!?! Jones is not going to associate with Paris Hilton personal or otherwise just for PR. Are you guys high over there thinking up this stuff??!?!! Please, get back to some "REAL" important journalism.
As for Paris Hilton, she couldn't handle being in a fight with BARBIE, muchless Joan or Linda.

I can appreciate humor as much as the next guy (espn sportsguy) but you are trying way too hard with the Lloyd Christmas, Lenny and Squiggy and Commish lines. Just not funny. I guess you are trying to repeat them like Randy Galloway does with Elderado, empty golf shirt and whatever else he does so you can be outlandish and make a name for yourself. It just doesn't work for you. Repeating movie lines doesn't mean you are funny. Comparing Jerry to Paris Hilton is not funny. Sorry to tell you that your friends probably just laugh at you to be nice. Remember that every reporter in town writes the same lazy column. TO is selfish, ignores teamates and jerry is a bad gm, too controlling, not a football guy. You will do the same thing because its easy and takes zero talent. Try being an original instead of the next Jennifer Floyd Engle. Make a good football point and back it up with facts. People in this town will take you seriously instead of skipping over your columns.

And the point of this entry was what? To show off your new HTML toy? C'mon, we expect better. If you just want to bash Jerry as a GM then go make a Greatest Journal blog and do it. Give us some journalism or at least put YOUR own credibility on the line, instead of Jerry's, and tell us what YOU would have done better.
