Colts assistant coach Jim Caldwell talked to the media following his interview. Caldwell talked for about six hours today before leaving for Ind. Here are some comments from Caldwell. What do you bring to the table? "Well, for the most part, it's not something I think I can answer in a sound byte, because obviously this is a great, great place and certainly a great organization, had great tradition, and certainly a winning history and what we wanted to do is just to continue that, that's the most important thing. But just in terms of philosophy and players and how we go through that whole thing, it'd take me a little while longer to answer that question." On Tony Romo: "He’s a guy who has talent, certainly has ability. I haven’t had an opportunity to study him closely, but the organization has and they feel good about him and we would be in position to help him progress. My experience over the last few years with a dynamic quarterback in Peyton Manning and also working with Brad Johnson down in Tampa, would help me relate to him, and give me a decent foundation and a direction that’s needed." Is it your time to become a head coach? "I think it will happen in due time. I’m not certain when that time is. It could be this year or next year or it could be two years down the road. I’m not quite certain when its going to happen, but Lord willing it will happen one day." |

Not exactly brimming with confidence, eh? Nor prepared to answer the obvious softball interview questions.
Then again, coming in knowing there's a 99% chance someone who has failed multiple times as a head coach will get the job can't be too inspiring.

This is not the guy sorry to say.. Did he say the Cowboys HAD great tradition.. One lil ole superbowl ring and you think you're a dynasty in Indy or something.. he's been listening to that NFL Network Indianapolis Colts history commercial too much.. and it would help if you did your homework on Romo before interviewing with the Owner of the team.. Jim Caldwell I think that's your bus back to indy.

I bet Peyton Manning taught him more than he taught Manning. I'd avoid him like the plague, especially considering that it makes no sense to hire him with Jason Garrett already on board.

Hasn't had an opportunity to study him closely?? Didn't you watch from the sidelines at all when he played against YOUR TEAM? Remember, that first loss of the season? Look, I know you aren't a defensive coach, but maybe there are other quarterbacks in the league other than Peyton you should notice.

Maybe it's me, but he didn't seem to provide the right, direct answers to the media (can you believe I said that?). Those weak answers mean he's weak all over..He's gone!

Got a question for all you sportswriters....who's going to be the star RB in Norv's offense.....I say its going to be Barber in a landslide!

To quote Simon from American Idol..."dull as dishwash."
Next, please?

I think his record at Wake Forest says it all.
On another subject, does it bother anyone else that you're called a Pro Bowler even when you only got your invitation because of someone else being injured? I can't believe the Pro Bowl accolade is considered during Hall of Fame voting. Check out more of my rant on my blog.

Doesn't anyone have anything positive to say. Y'all are such experts, perhaps one of you should be the next head coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator. The man has obviously done something right...give him a break.

David, I can tell about a man on first impressions and how he handles himself in a given situation. From his statements to the exact words he used, he seems to be covering up. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt it's weakness and not lying. Besides, I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Jim Caldwell doesn't have the coaching credentials that are required to be a head coach. Just pick a coach already, I understand that we want to make the right decision but it is getting kind of aggrevating waiting all the time on Jerry's decision.

Anyone have any thoughts about what the Joneses have in mind for Tony Sparano? If he isn't promoted to head coach and Jason Garrett becomes the OC, where does that leave Sparano? Looks like he could very easily get short shrift in this deal, especially considering that the Cowboys wouldn't let him talk to New Orleans about the OC job last year.
