Berlin on board

On Monday, owner Jerry Jones said the team could take a quarterback in this weekend's draft, perhaps in the early rounds, but on Wednesday the Cowboys signed quarterback Brock Berlin.

Berlin worked out for the team last month and is a favorite of new offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, who worked with Berlin for two years in Miami. Berlin was cut twice by the Dolphins in training camp.

Berlin, 6-0, 213 pounds, was once the No. 1 player coming out of high school before signing with the University of Florida in 2000. He later transferred to Miami where he was a two-year starter, throwing for 5,099 yards with 34 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. He played last spring for Hamburg in NFL Europe with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.

This addition should not affect the team's draft plans.

"This addition should not affect the team's draft plans."

Truer words have never been spoken.

Solid move by the Cowboys organization to keep young quarterbacks in the pipeline.

I am all for drafting another quarterback in the 3rd, 4th or 5th round, as well. There is no question you can parlay a solid young QB into either your plans or use as a trading chip for draft picks down the line.

I have no idea whether Brock will make the team or not. I imagine they signed him for a minimum contract with little or no signing bonus.

What I can say is that it helps to have players who are familiar when a coach brings in a new system as Jason Garrett is doing. If nothing else, this will help during mini-camps and training camp.

For this same reason, I would like to see the Coweboys sign Randall Godfrey who played ILB for the Chargers the past few years.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it here, but it just sounds like Garrett has gotten someone who knows his offense to throw to receivers learning the offense in practice without wearing out his starter and backup.

Yikes! 34 TD - 23 INT in NFL Europe? Those aren't confidence building numbers in the minor leagues. I agreed w/ everyone else. We'd better still be drafting a QB for development, because Berlin isn't one to bank on.

Signing Berlin makes less sense then cutting Henson.

romo better watch his back because knowing how our fans are, we'll be screaming for berlin halfway through the season. don't know why we think 3rd string qbs are so great...

Does Garrett have any other friends that want paychecks from Jerry? I hope this nepotism isn't going to continue and then hurt the Cowboys in the future.

now with qb's named berlin and rome(o) wonder what the chances are of seeing their games on the history channel:-)
