Jean-Jacques Taylor gives oft-criticized Jerry props for all the wheelin' and dealin' on the first day. Jacques also notes that the Browns stink, which should excite Cowboys fans. Todd Archer writes that the Cowboys showed faith in Tony Romo by passing on the chance to draft Brady Quinn. Calvin Watkins writes that first-round pick Anthony Spencer could cut into Greg Ellis' playing time, although Wade Phillips vows to figure out ways to get his best pass-rushers on the field. Calvin also writes that the Cowboys weren't sweating about not drafting a WR on the first day. Hall of Fame scribe Rick "Goose" Gosselin writes that a rough day ended up OK for new Browns QB Brady Quinn. |

Draft Mason Crosby in round 5!

Someone please tell me why Jerra Jones gave up so many good draft positions, made some questionalable picks and then passed up better prospects. If you are going to take a kicker at least take the best one available...i.e. Mason Crosby of Colorado. I think that the cowboys passed on some better o-linemen. c/g Ryan Kalil USC, g/t Josh Beekman, BC. What happened to the D-tackle we needed.

Regarding: "Jacques also notes that the Browns stink, which should excite Cowboys fans." To that I will just say that Taylor was one day late in his analysis. The Browns stunk BEFORE the draft. Not any longer.
And regarding JJones being back in his element controlling the draft since Parcells left: if he had made only that first trade then the Cowboys would have been just fine. But with all the subsequent jockeying around, the only thing he accomplished was getting his name mentioned on national TV a lot. Phillips should have cut the phone lines after that. They certainly missed a lot of good players at the top of the second round--players just as good, or better, than Spencer.
