| N. Illinois coach: Free better than Super Bowl starter »
Jerry said last night that we shouldn't read the drafting as OT James Marten as a sign that Flozell Adams will be departing after this season. Jerry went on to say that they expect big things from Adams this season, since he'll be two years removed from his knee surgery and it's a contract year. Then Jerry drafted another OT, Doug Free, in the fourth round. The Cowboys might not be running Adams out of town, but they sure are preparing in case he does leave. And they're positioning themselves so that Adams won't be able to hold them hostage in contract negotiations. Free and Marten join Pat McQuistan and Leonard Davis as potential replacements for Adams. None of them are sure things at left tackle, the most difficult and important position on the offensive line, but chances are at least decent that at least one of the four will pan out as Tony Romo's blind-side protector. |

Can McQuistan play Guard?

Maybe, maybe not, it depends on whether Flozell plays at a high level or not. And if his price tag is right. At this point, I'd rather see if Dallas' ability to pick quality OL improves, post - Parcells. It can't get worse, I hope.

the price of an offensive lineman in free agency has skyrocketed - it's worth spending a couple of mid-round picks to develop your own players.

The world-wide leader is doing another piece on Brady Quinn's bad day yesterday. They need to leave that poor kid alone. He took a major financial hit yesterday, and I'm proud of you Jerry for helping get that kid off the board and end his nightmare.

As mentioned earlier, Doug Free grew up less than 5 miles from me. I just drove by his parents' house...he was getting interviewed by a local TV station and I got out of my truck screaming "COWBOYS!!". I think they were pretty impressed....or thought I was a total dork. I'll go with the latter.

Drafting these 2 tackles gives us (that magic word) options. Adams is in the last year of his contract and, do we really know Colombo is the long term answer on the other side? Among McQuistan, Marten and Free, we can probably expect 2 of them to pan out and be good NFL players. Forget about Leonard Davis at tackle. He's proven to be a great guard and so-so tackle. Leave him at guard.

flo is not worth another long term deal...youth is being served on the o-line...mcquisten can still be the "swing" tackle that teams desire so much...

Let FLozell Go, overrated and has never been the kind of impact player I would like to see at left tackle

Flozell has been a good player, not a great player, and is still recovering from the ACL. At his age, I don't see him getting another big contract. This year's crop of O-line prospects might have one or two who can play. Wait at least one year, maybe two and see. We can only hope that Jeff Ireland etc. is a better judge of linemen than Big Bill.
