You'll get frequent Browns updates on this blog from now until the end of the season, with Jerry conning Cleveland out of next year's first-round pick and all. The Akron Beacon-Journal reports that Browns GM Phil Savage has no plans to bring in a veteran QB, but that doesn't mean he's ready to hand the reins over to Brady Quinn quite yet. Not sure whether Cowboys fans should root for Quinn to start as a rookie or the Browns to stick with Charlie Frye for another year. |

I would say I would rather have Charlie Frye as the Browns' quarterback than Brady Quinn. I am a little nervous about getting my hopes up for Darren McFadden next year, because it seems like the Browns just always have bad luck with injuries. 2 years ago it was Kellen Winslow. Last year it was LeCharles Bentley first, and then slowly just about everybody on the team. If Kam Wimbley and the Browns' D plays to its potential, they may only leave us with a 15 or so pick. Goodness I hope Brady is horrible.

I'd say root for Quinn to be thrown out there. Even if he's eventually going to be better than Frye, chances are very, very good it's not going to happen this year. Rookie QB groing pains = top 10 pick for Cowboys.

I am not so sure about the rookie growing pains though. While I know it takes time to develop quarterbacks, we have seen the rookie seasons of Vince Young, Matt Leinart, and Ben Rothlesberger the last couple of years and all of them had great rookie years. I just think that Charlie Frye sucks worse than Brady Quinn, and that's why I want him to start. Wait actually, don't the browns have another quarterback named Derek Anderson or something that actually looked good last year?

Are you kidding me? Are our local sports teams so bad that now we are being fed Clevelan Browns news? BARF

Yes, BP. If you mean the Rangers, than yes.... we certainly are just that bad. And I just can't bear to watch a Jazz-Warriors series- just shameful.

When mentioning the rookie successes of Vince Young, Matt Leinart, and Ben Rothlisberger, you have to put it into perspective. As a rookie Ben Rothlesberger was surrounded by a great team, Matt Leinart was surrounded by great skilled players on offense, and Vince Young.....well he is just great. The Browns do not have the skilled players that the Steelers or Cardinals had, and Brady Quin aint no Vince Young (He cannot create or take over a game all by his lonesome). If Quin starts Cowboys win.

Honestly, I think we have to root for Frye to start the season, stink it up real good, and get replaced by Quinn after losing the first 8 games. That way we get the best of both worlds, and a top 5 pick...

Romeo sealed his fate w/Quinn and Staley. I'm certain about Quinn being a bust...and just don't think Staley will be the dominant tackle projected...shades of Robert Gallery. I think Quinn got exposed too many times against good teams and defenses and proved that he was merely a systems guy under Weis like all of the Florida Gator QBs under Spurrier. The Browns can't seem to get it right with QBs recently. I'm so glad the Cowboys didn't go the Quinn route. We have a top-10 pick for 2008.

Sorry...was referring to Joe Thomas of Browns in earlier comments along w/Quinn

I think Dallas fans should root for Quinn to start. If he startsm Cleveland will be lucky to win 4 games, thus, putting Dallas in a very sweet draft position next year. Conning Cleveland for that 1st round pick is the best things Jerry's done since the Herchel Walker trade.

I say root for Frye to start, because:
1. The Browns will likey have a losing record with or without him.
2. If Quinn starts and somehow tears it up on the field like that unprecedented Steelers rookie a few years ago, the morale blow of not choosing Quinn in the draft will be felt in Dallas and possibly seep into Romo's confidence.

NFL QB Ratings the last 10 weeks of 2006
17. 77.3 - Charlie Frye
33. 63.1 - Derek Anderson
Frye was a middle of the pack QB in the NFL in the 2nd half of the season. Derek Anderson was a loser. Anderson is a great practice player though and will most likely be the starter.
The Browns QB depth chart will look like this
1. Anderson
2. Frye
3. Quinn
