Superstar columnist Tim Cowlishaw tagged the Cowboys as the craziest of the four local franchises for stubbornly trying to find a franchise quarterback on the cheap. Whether or not Tony Romo is the man has nothing to do with the point T-Cow (unapproved nickname) is making. Remember that the Cowboys have the longest playoff win drought in town and went through Tony Banks (very briefly), Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson, Ryan Leaf, Vinny Testaverde, Drew Henson, Drew Bledsoe, etc. before handing the reins to Romo. Most franchises would consider a decade-long gap between good quarterbacks a disaster. An end that takes this long to reach doesn't justify Jerry's means. While Tim criticizes the Cowboys for failing to invest a high pick on a QB since Troy Aikman's retirement, he thinks the Cowboys made the right move by passing on Brady Quinn in this draft. Cleveland paid a king's ransom for the right to take Quinn, the Cowboys got a guy who can help right away and the guy who might finally be the Cowboys' next franchise QB doesn't have to look over his shoulder at a hot-shot rookie. |

T-Cow writes:
"The Cowboys won three Super Bowls after taking Troy Aikman with the first pick in the 1989 draft. They have not drafted a quarterback higher than the third round in 18 years since."
Does T-Cow check his work for factual errors? Didn't Dallas draft Quincy Carter in the second round? He was the 53rd pick.
Looks like somebody is trying to fix the intelligence to fit the policy.

To keep things in perspective, only a few teams have ever had two super bowl winning qb's...and there are usually fewer than 5 "REAL FRANCHISE" qb's in the NFL at any given time...no excuse not to move heaven and earth to try to get another one...Brady, Manning qualify...and that's it...Farve used to be...Donovan got close before he crashed back down in a heap of injuries and mediocrity...Brees might be...Rivers might be...big Ben looked like it, but regressed a little...might be hope for him...getting a franchise qb is easy to say, and very hard to do...

We dont need a "Franchise" QB...All need is McFadden. Draft D-Mac and all of our Super Bowl dreams will come true. Any questions? Visit the link and drool:

Rather than just asserting that they made a stupid choice in not getting another franchise QB, it would have lent credibility to the evaluation if he had listed the "sure thing, can't miss, franchise QB's" that the Cowboys had an opportunity to draft but did not. Along with how many other teams similarly passed over those QB's. A lot were gone by the time the Cowboys picked, or must not have been "sure thing, can't miss" because a lot of other teams passed on them too.
Finding a quality QB in the lower rounds is a crapshoot, but so is finding a quality QB in the top 5 picks, and it carries a lot more risk. A lot of those guys don't pan out. The sexy draft pick is not always the wise draft pick.

QB is such a strange creature. Never know what your going to get until he gets knocked around a little (ok a lot). Good choice where we are now. Not many 1st round QB's are successful in NFL anyway, Aikman being one of the exceptions

Loonier than the Rangers? Really? Seriously?
I don't think so, Tim.

I mean, come on, dude...Jerry Jones isn't even the looniest OWNER in D/FW. Not even close.

Yeah, c'mon Tim!! I have been a Rangers' fan for about 38 years (yeah, I am the only idiot to admit it) and I know their ownership has stunk for most of that time (count the playoff appearances along, not to mention the lack of Pennants and World Titles!!. We Cowboy fans are spoiled. Five World Titles with three under Jerry, but we still complain.

Why is everybody tripped outoys over us having to 1st round draft choices next year. What the hell will getting Brady Quinn do for this season. NOTHING Right now the Cowboys if done right have set up themselves to get the best player in next year draft and a quarterback if ROMO does not do it this year. I am not one to worry about the draft because of the learning curve. Some make it and some don;t so I'll take my chances with what we got now.
