Frye named Browns' starting QB

This news is actually a little more than a week old, but I just saw it. Charlie Frye has been named Cleveland's starting quarterback, which you care about because of the high probability that the Browns will be bad enough to give the Cowboys a top-five pick in next season's draft.

Oh, one minor detail: WR Braylon Edwards was the one who made and announced this decision.

"I want to go on record. Charlie is our guy,'' Edwards told the Akron Beacon-Journal.

I always thought a receiver should have at least one 1,000-yard season before declaring that a first-round pick can rot on the bench. I'm sure Brady Quinn appreciated the vote of confidence.

The next positive report on Brady Quinn from the Browns' practices will be the first.

Big mouth, too little production from Edwards.

This is great news!! I think Quinn is being totally underestimated. You can't tell me that Frye beat Quinn out. The coaching staff has just decided to go the "Carson Palmer" route with Quinn. I think Frye is bad enough that they'll probably lose 5 or 6 games right off the bat, fire Crennell, and then throw Brady into the fire as a rookie and it'll be too late. We're talking top 5 pick baby!!

Bump that. I want the top pick, not just top 5.

Timmy Mac, how do you know that Braylon wasn't just taking a private discussion with Romeo or some other high ranking coach on the Browns staff and making the discussion public?

This is what is wrong with todays media. They don't do any work. Did Timmy Mac make a phone call to Braylon to find out if he had any inside info, if it was just an educated guess cause Brady Quinn looks lost compared to Frye, or if Braylon was just talking trash? I really doubt it.

This is just back tracking for saying that they've never had a QB like Quinn on the roster last week. A WR can't alienate a possible starter.

It makes no sense to play a rookie quarterback in the NFL.

What the heck is going on in Cleveland?

Posted by dave j @ 11:16 PM Sat, May 26, 2007

OK, I read the article. This is Braylon saying Frye is the guy. Carries about as much weight as T.O. saying who the starting QB is.

Thanks for giving us a little football new to gossip about during these dog days until training camp starts. Other than that, this has no weight or merit. It's just a WR trying to step up as a high draft pick and fumbling his way through it. Good try Braylon.

As Cowboy Fans, our Job #1 is to root for Chaos in Cleveland! ...not that they need help.

If you think about it, this is perfect, assuming Brady Quin is the more talented player. Now Quin will probably come in Half way through the season. Then it will take him the balance of the games to catch on. That's better than him starting early and then start playing decent toward the end of the season. Damn, I'm reaching for any rational for next year's top pick.

In looking at Cleveland's schedule for next season, I'm seeing 13 games they should not win. Factor in luck and they probably go 4-12. If Schaub can get it going in Houston and luck works against the Browns (and for the Pokes) they could be as bad as 2-14, with a #1 very much a reality. With Spence coming on just as expected this could wind up being one of the best deals JJ has ever made.
