Has a WR ever had a stronger arm than Stanback?

Check out Isaiah Stanback heaving a ball 70-plus yards on a Hail Mary touchdown.

There have been several college QBs who became NFL WRs, but I'm not sure any of them had that kind of arm strength. I've never seen Patrick Crayton throw a ball, but I'll assume he can't do that. Crayton, after all, was an option QB in college.

You've got to figure that Jason Garrett and Co. will put a couple plays in the playbook that allow Stanback to show off that arm strength. Feel free to send diagrammed suggestions to Valley Ranch.

Drew Pearson had a stronger arm than Roger Staubach - at one of the fun-type contests held at Dallas while both were still playing, Drew bested him with a huge heave, don't remember the exact yardage. And everyone remembers how competitive Roger was, no matter what the contest!

I'm a big fan of this pick. Sounds like a super athlete with good size and versatility. Go crazy with this kid, Garrett!

I can't diagram plays in a way that would lend credibility to my ideas (LOL) but the plays that readily come to mind are obviously plays that are designed to appear like running plays to the defense -- end around and various reverses -- plays that appear to be committed to the run, so that the defense will fail to properly cover someone that is running a decoy pattern. But I think the Cowboys should seriously consider checking this young man out thoroughly and completely assess is quarterback prospects. He could still earn his keep as a wide receiver while developing his quarterbacking skills. In three or four years, if he develops and they don't want him, some other team will give up a lot to get a quarterback with a rocket arm and who can run like that. He's obviously a hell of a lot more intelligent the Michael Vick, and has the potential to become equally, or more, dangerous in the pocket. In fact, after I learned that he had a great arm and deemed to have serious potential as a developmental quarterback, I applauded the Cowboys, thinking those were their plans. I expected them to, at least, fully determine his quarterback potential. I think it might be a mistake not to. Regardless, I think he has the potential of being a phenomenal pick.

Great throw by Stanback.
Rumour has it that Harold Carmichael of the Eagles could throw the ball 100 yards. Anyone know if thats true??

Interesting, because that arm strength is what people kept saying was one of JaMarcus Russell's biggest asset. Guess it takes more than that to make it as an NFL quarterback.

I assume we are going to see more trick plays with him in the line up......nice weapon to have

IS THERE SOMETHING THAT IS SO WRONG WITH HIM PLAYING QB THAT HE CAN'T EVEN HAVE A SHOT AT PLAYING QB IN THE NFL. HE HAS TO BE AS GOOD AS QUINCY CARTER AND HE STARTED FOR THE COWBOYS AND DID PRETTY WELL.

The dropback, the step-up, the follow-through, the arm strength and the accuracy looks just like former Tenaha Tiger and Texas Player of the Year Chavis McCollister. Of course, McCollister is 5'9" and was a running back in college. He's now a wide receiver with South Georgia in the AFL2.

Remember the Hail Mary pass Kordell threw to Michael Westbrook at Colorado to win the game. Kordell started out as an NFL WR.

Now that Romo has been pulled from FG holding duities, I'd like to see Stanback hold. He could do a lot with field goal fakes both running and passing. I bet he's not tripped up from behind by Babineaux at the 1 yard line.

The Panthers just released Keyshawn Johnson?!?!?

Posted by Whip @ 2:33 PM Tue, May 01, 2007

Just saw where the Panthers cut Keyshawn. There's a ready to go receiver for us.

Not knowing what he is going to do on the field is what makes him so dangerous. Players like that have to be accounted for on every play, leaving others open. I also think this was a very good pick, although not as a QB. With his size he'll be able to break tackles down field.

As long as he dosent lead the league in dropped passes(remind you of anyone?) Arm strength dosent translate to accuracy all the time either.

How about a reverse option pass, Stanback in the slot, tight-end on that side stays in for a block then releases on a 3-4 count to a safety dump, opposite field receiver fake post to a fly. Other receiver on a post across the field, RB & QB block... TD TO or TG

I can already see it: All of us staring at our T.V.'s with 2 seconds left on the clock, ball on the Cowboy's 30 before half or before the final and yelling PUT IN STANBACK!

Is it me or just saying the name Stanback bring back fine memories of Staubach!!!

This kid looks like a weapon, I think he can have a career similar to that of Randel El.

Posted by ernest t bass @ 1:26 PM Wed, May 02, 2007

The name Stanback reminds me of a young, hot Stevie Nicks and also may be good advice to defensive backs.

Great...I can smell the controversy from here! The first time Romo misses a Hail Mary Pass...Bench him for the new kid!
