Maybe Moore can be the next Romo

Other than a few highlights -- like the OT-forcing drive in the Sun Bowl shown above -- I've never seen undrafted free agent QB Matt Moore play. But ESPN's Ron Jaworski has, and he raved about Moore an awful lot during the late rounds of the draft.

Like Jaworski or not, you must admit the man knows his quarterbacks. Jaworski was so high on Moore that it makes me think the kid has a chance to follow the Tony Romo path -- spend a couple seasons as a third-stringer, move up to backup and maybe be ready to start four years from now.

It's a long shot for Moore to ever start a game for the Cowboys, but I like his chances to earn a clipboard-holding gig this season.

Never though I would agree with Jaworski about anything but this kid does look good. His quick release reminds me very much of Romo. With all the talk about Brady Quinn, will be funny if Matt Moore turns out to be a better NFL QB. It could happen.

I hope he isn't too attached to that number 8

That would be humorous indeed. Romo ended up better than David Carr. You never know. What would be even more humorous is if both the Cowboys and the Browns suck so horribly next year that the Cowboys end up with the top two picks in the draft.

What would be humurous about the Cowboys sucking next year???

Never made the connection, but being from Missouri, I saw that game. Moore looked pretty good in the second half, but Mizzou's defense gave up an awful lot that day. Moore threw four touchdown passes and ran for a fifth for Oregon State.

Tim, the drive you showed didn't lead to OT, because Oregon State won the game on a 2-point conversion.

William, put me down for someone who doesn't want the Cowboys to have the first two picks in the first round. I would rather see them have the first and last pick in the first round next year, after having won the Super Bowl. Why would you want them to suck so bad?

Well I live in Portland and follow the beavers.......Moore had a rough go at it in the begining of the year....Moore was stinking up the place......fans wanted him benched and were booing him every chance they got.........then something crazy happened....the beavers started to win games and then everyone loved him....funny how that works.

on a side note that guy who caught that pass in the endzone....Joe Newton......how he went undrafted is beyond me......Seattle got a steal when they signed him.

The bandwagon for Quinn should consider Romo looked good last year and had flashes of brilliance. If he tanks this year the Cowboys have the opportunity twice in the first round to get a QB. Jerry the genius

I don't want to see the Cowboys suck next year, but all it would take for them to do so is for them to lose a pass rusher like last year and then the defense would not be able to shrink the field. So I could see the Cowboys imploding and getting in line for a high draft pick. Let's wait and see.

Thanks, good reporting. Dallas was a real pioneer in finding undrafted free agents consistently over the years. Maybe that was the upside to Jones getting the Cowboys in cap hell and trading #1s for Joey Galloway and then reaching for guys at the top of the draft.

If Romo has much more success, many teams are going to begin rummaging for QB's beyond the draft, and start trying to develop one from within. Kind of a lost art until Uncle Bill decided to do it. Tony could start a real trend, not just at Valley Ranch, but throughout the NFL.

Tim, I'd like to see how you think the Cowboys depth chart will look like when week 1 starts. Couple interesting position battles will be going down so I want to see how you think they will turn out.

Thanks,
Shawn

I like the way Matt Moore hits the back foot in his drop and lets it fly. So, he can read defenses and he does have a quick release with some zip on it. I think this guy will develop nicely after some coaching and time with Jurasek.

forget about moore being romo. the question is can stanback be the next mcnabb, vick, randle el orkordell stewart

I too would like to see the Tim MacMahon depth chart for opening day 2007. Moore, Baker or Berlin? 2 kickers? Where will all these LB's fit in? How many WR's do they keep? 2 FB's? And most importantly.... who's the holder on FG's?

I want the Browns to suck next year! I want the Cowboys to make the Superbowl. I have a theory that when the Mavericks suck, the Cowboys win. When the Cowboys suck, the Mavericks win! Any comments on my theory?
