Ron Mexico can't outrun Sheriff Goodell

After reading the fine work of ESPN.com's new stud NFL blogger, I'm putting the over-under on Mike Vick's upcoming suspension at six games.

Tough-on-thugs new commish Roger Goodell won't just be considering the whole dog fighting issue, which keeps getting worse for Vick. That's just the most recent and severe case in a pattern of troubling behavior by the freak athlete who's a terrible passer.

Other incidents:

*Vick got sued by a woman who alleged that he knowingly gave her herpes. The suit was reportedly settled for a significant sum. The lawsuit revealed that he used the alias "Ron Mexico" to get herpes treatment, and there's all kinds of comedic gold about it on deadspin that I can't link to because of the PG rating.

*He had a tricky water bottle seized by Miami airport screeners, who got suspicious when the multimillionaire was reluctant to give it up. They found a secret compartment that reeked of reefer. He wasn't charged after Miami authorities declared that no drugs were found.

*A photo that found its way onto the web last summer via a girlfriend's myspace page (wonder if she knows about the lawsuit) indicates that Mr. Mexico is familiar with the process of inhaling marijuana. That sure looks like a blunt (southpaw cigar) in his hand.

*He gave Falcons fans a double-barrelled dirty bird after Atlanta got its butt whupped by the Saints. He got fined 10 grand by the league and matched that in a charity donation.

Reckon the Falcons regret shipping Matt Schaub to the Texans?

Please remember Vick's plight the next time you wanna worry about Tony Romo's romancin'.

Well said, Tim. Michael Vick bets on dog fights, Tony judges beauty contests. Mike smokes blunts, which he can do before the game as far as I'm concerned, and Tony smokes defenses (I hope.) Sounds like Mikey likes it.

Actually, it looks like a "Black and Mild" tip that he's holding.
Oh, and how the heck can someone tell that's marijuana in a cigar paper. Could be a cigarillo.
Yea. Ron Mexico has brought a lot of this on to himself but it appears to be getting a bit out of hand with this one. Not a Mike Vick defender, just calling it as i see it.

PLayers like Vick and Portis should be banned from NFL.These two clowns are destroying everything that has been done by players such as Starr,Jordan,Brown,Payton,Stubach.Vick and Portis do not belong on football field and embarssment to human beings.

Brett Favre may be available soon, but he dips and the commish may suspend for being a bad influence on kids. This must be a consparcy agin Gawja.

If he's guilty of participating in dogfighting, I hope Goodell nails him for the entire season. This isn't some joke--these animals are treated horribly, trained to be mean and angry, and as you know, many times fight to the death. People who participate in this kind of activity are truly scum, and IF Vick is involved (so far, he's not proven guilty, but the evidence is mounting), then he's true scum. Portis is a huge piece of scum as well.

You can link to pictures of someone holding suspected "drugs" but you can't link to some sophomoric humor on Deadspin? That's the most butt-backward thing I've ever heard.

Who would want Brett Favre? That guy is scared of an ice cream cone.

EDITOR'S NOTE: It's the language that makes deadspin unlinkable from this family blog.

If he had anything to do with the dog fighting (which is becoming very obvious), he should be suspended for one year regardless. He's not that good of a player. If he was in Dallas, he would be ripped on a daily basis for his play and he off the field crap would get him killed in the press and radio. I think they should let some of those dogs go after Vick and see their bite up close.

Applaud The Sherriff getting tough on off the field behavior.
Habib--if the Brown you're referring to is Jimmy, he was one of my boyhood heroes, but, as I recall, he also had a bad habit of tossing girlfriends through wndows.

It will be a year suspension before Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton get themselves involved and turn it into a race issue. Then it will probably get whittled down to about four games.

If the dog fighting allegations are true, then he was intentionally defying the law and involved in a gambling operation which is a MAJOR bad in the NFL. Forget about the past stuff and the animal cruelty. That alone should be worth at least a year.

Tim, how is foul language worse than the linked picture of alleged drug abuse? That is absolutely ridiculous to suggest that foul language is in any way worse than showing an accused felon with drugs. That's what is called a double-standard.

Chicago Joe - feel free to mosey on over to deadspin on your own, if you can manage to figure out how.

Posted by ernest t bass @ 3:47 PM Mon, May 28, 2007

Goober, we must be tolerant of our Yankee visitor.

Fill 'er up.

Posted by Otis @ 3:49 PM Mon, May 28, 2007

Goober...do your Cary Grant.

Posted by Chicago Joe @ 6:57 PM Mon, May 28, 2007

Goober, first of all, I'm not a visitor, I live here.

Second, it isn't finding Deadspin that is the issue, it's the double-standard of the blog preaching
family friendliness while providing a link to a picture of alleged drug use. I was just calling Tim on it. Feel free to not read my comments...if you can manage to figure out how.

Well in that case ... WELCOME TO TEXAS !

As far as I am concerned Michael Vick is Pond Scum. Imagine where he would be if he couldn't play football. He wouldn't be on my team if it assured me of a super bowl. All you T.O. haters, just look at this piece of crap of a human being.

Posted by Goober Pyle @ 9:06 PM Mon, May 28, 2007

Judy Judy Judy! Hey! Wanna see my Edward G. Robinson? OK you guys, beat it you guys! I'm talkin to you Joe! Hey, you boys seen Howard? Otis, you seen Howard?

Posted by Charles - ATL @ 11:47 AM Tue, May 29, 2007

"You will reap what you sow..." Famous words that apply to Mr. Vick. I've met him twice here in the ATL and told Falcon friends that sooner or later he would get busted. He appeared to be "high" in both instances...even though it was at the airport and at Phillips arena. Larry aptly described him as "Pond scum" and I believe that he is. Wonderfully talented..but a classless guy who won't make the right decisions because of who he is deep inside. If the dog-fighting allegations are true, I hope Goodell nails him for 1 year also. Let's leave race, up-bringing, and politics out of this and just demand that "anyone" found guilty of violating the strict code of conduct be held accountable.
