Pittsburgh Post-Gazette columnist Ron Cook speculated on the next stop for ex-Steelers coach Bill Cowher. Cook, using the popular and effective throw-a-bunch-of-stuff-against-the-wall-and-hope-something-sticks method, mentioned the Cowboys among many other teams. It wouldn't surprise anyone if Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones fired Wade Phillips after just one season to make a pitch for him. I usually prefer to let a coach lose at least one game before running him out of town, so I'll hold off for now on calling for Phillips' head. Besides, I'm not so sure Jerry is interested in hiring another big-name coach after the Bill Parcells experience. Seems like Jerry is enjoying being the unquestioned boss man again. And I don't know whether Cowher, who will have his pick of jobs despite losing a Super Bowl to Barry Switzer, would be interested in working with such a hands-on, un-Rooney-like owner. Cook, to his credit, did conclude by settling on the team most likely to hire Cowher. He went with the Browns, which would probably mean the Cowboys have a top-five pick in next year's draft. UPDATE: A high-profile, coffee-sippin' character echoed my take about the Jerry-Chin union being a bad fit. This well-dressed blogger bets that Cowher will end up with the Giants. |

I will be the first to admit I am not enamored with Wade Phillips as head coach.
However, he deserves 2-3 seasons to get his system in place and deserves a legitimate chance to succeed.
I firmly believe Wade Phillips and the Cowboys in general will succeed or fail based on what happens at the quarterback position.
If Tony Romo continues to develop, Dallas will have a chance to go deep in the playoffs.
If Tony Romo has hit a ceiling and has no further upside, Dallas will struggle and be around the 6-10 to 8-8 area.
My money says Tony Romo will be very successful.

Don't get me wrong; I like Cowher. But he won 1 Super Bowl in 15 years with the Steelers. That's great and all, but by my calculations that is also coming up short 14 out of 15 years. (I'm a math whiz; also dressed myself today)
Again, I'm really not trying to knock the guy, but we don't need Cowher yet. Little early to start the death watch for the current Cowboys coach that has yet to coach a regular season game for us. I was one of those fans that wasn't too enthused about Phillips but let's give him a chance.

First, congrats to Avery210. Glad to see you're making progress. ;)
Now, Wade Phillips came here to do one thing: Fix this defense. I have no doubt at all that he can and will do so. But he will be on the hotseat if Garrett doesn't deliver a potent offense, which I don't think will happen, but I'm much less confident about the offense.
Since when did Bill Cowher become such a great head coach? Weren't the Steelers terrible until they lucked into Big Ben? Not a soul in Pittsburgh was celebrating about retaining Cowher after the QB fiasco that they endured for his first 13 seasons (including Slash, O'Donnell, Maddux, and Batch, among many others).
So here's the Cowher landing in Cleveland and the Cowboys landing Darren McFadden! :D

If JJ had wanted Cowher - he'd already be here.
We've had one sourpuss coach too many - that BP style doesn't work anymore.

I dont want him he lost 3 AFC Championships in Pittsburgh at home. One hit wonder perhaps...

Have always admired Bill Cowher's passion for the game and apparently his players play for him, but I am just not sure the passion is still there. The last thing the cowboys need is another coach who has seen his better days. Unless Phillips falls flat on his face, I would not even consider it.

First of all I'm not buying that Cowher just wants a 1 year break. I think he's gonna do a Jimmy Johnson and take a few years off and wait for the perfect job/situation to come along.
Secondly, I believe that Jerry wants to have his own version of Sean Payton. A young, promising coach with a long future. The odds on favorite has to be Jason Garrett.
Finally, as has been stated before Wade Phillips was brought in to fix the defense. The offense last year was one of the best in franchise history. There just needs to be more consistancy which Red Ball is supposed to bring. So that leaves the defense. They played well for most of the year but injuries and the weaknesses exposed was the downfall of the Cowboys.
Wade has proven he knows how to run a defense. So let's give him a couple of years to see what he can do.

He hasn't even been to his first Cowboy pre-season training camp!
Love me some Cowboy contentious Stuff!

Why all the hub-bub over Cowher? The next coach is already on staff, Jason Garrett.

This is mine and Jerry's plan all along. I will coach this year until Cowher is coming abaord, at which time I'll become defensive coach.
