Almost forgot to mention that Wade Phillips named Brad Johnson the No. 1 holder, eliminating a whole bunch of drama from training camp. Punter Mat McBriar, who was robbed of a legit shot to win the job, is usually quite a talkative mate. But McBriar wasn't in the locker room during the media access period this afternoon. I'm usually not one to jump to conclusions, but I don't think there's any doubt that McBriar is enraged at the decision. I'll see if I can get him to blow off some steam tomorrow ... or at least play along with my manufactured controversy. |

Hopefully, Johnson will handle only smooth, slick balls during training camp.

it's funny that you would make a joke about "manufactured controversy" as it applies to sports when everyone assumes that that's what you (the MEDIA, not you personally timbo) already do.

Why would McBriar be angry at not getting to be the holder? Does the holder get more money for this? When Romo squelched the ball against Seattle, he didn't get his head handed to him because he was the reason we got that far in the first place ,,,but let a punter have a ball slip through his hands in a critical play-off game, and his punting could easily suffer from the mental anguish that follows. I personally wouldn't want that responsibility unless I was the 3rd string Quarterback or trying to make special teams.

Also, I hope that in time, McBriar can learn to accept his limited role as the most effective punter in the league

McBriar's enraged? didn't realize holding for field goals and extra points was such a plum postition. So who would you say got to Canton based solely on their 'holding' skills?

Tim, guess you'll just have to create some controversy. LOL. JK. BTW, where has Carpenter been lining up? I was just wondering with this latest outburst from Ellis if they might consider Carpenter on the outside again. I know we have Spencer, but those two kids should have the chance to battle for that job. I'd like to watch that battle. Come to think of it, I'd like to see both those kids on the field more than a disgruntled player. I know we need a healthy Greg Ellis to be our best, but only if he's happy.

My biggest concern at this point is Johnson's QB skills. Unless he is very lucky, Romo will miss some action during the season. Will the boys run at the SB go in the dumper is Johnson has to play a few games? From all the reports I have read of Mini-camps and OTA's so far, this guy's QB skills may already be in the dumper. He is 73 years old you know. Do we have a major problem awaiting a Romo injury here?
