T.O.'s a top-five WR

5:01 PM Mon, Jun 25, 2007 |
Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

So says SI.com's Bucky Brooks, who ranks T.O. behind Steve Smith, Chad Johnson, Roy Williams and Marvin Harrison.

The controversial superstar led the league in touchdown receptions in 2006, but suffered a down year by his standards. Though his season totals should have earned him Pro Bowl accolades, his high number of drops diverted attention away from his positive impact on the Dallas offense. Fully recovered from a wrist injury and playing in an offense that will accentuate his strengths, he will have a big season as Tony Romo's favorite target in 2007.

I agree with Brooks' take on T.O., other than the injured body part. I recall a hand and finger injury, but the wrist is news to me.

Terry Glenn didn't crack the top 25, for what it's worth.

Glenn not making the top 25 is a joke. If you go on ability, he is in the top 10.

Posted by evilinc @ 5:45 PM Mon, Jun 25, 2007

Okay, this guy's rankings are silly. Moss in the top 10? Based on what? Calvin Johnson in the top 25? How about we let him catch a single pass, first, please. Darrell Jackson, Reggie Brown, Mark Clayton, Laverneous Coles, Deion Branch, Santana Moss, Plexico Burress and TJ Housh ranked ahead of Glenn. Riiiigggghhhhtttt.

Terry Glenn....Top 10 for sure. Runs crisp routes, has great hands and his speed...well, let's just say he's faster than 98% of his contemporaries. Once again, a biased list!!

Posted by Saint Jimmy @ 7:01 PM Mon, Jun 25, 2007

Stikker must have Silver & Blue glasses stukk on him. Glenn is maaaaaybe a Top 15 WR and certainly a Top 25. There are just way too many really great WR's out there.

But at least there's someone out there in the media who isn't a complete moron and realizes that TO did have a pretty good year. The drops stat is a joke to me. And if you don't count the Redskin game where TO broke his hand on the 3rd play his drops would be a lot less. TO had about 4-6 drops in that game. That would make his total about on par or less than Steve Smith's 12 drops.

We've gone down this road b4. Steve Smith is the only guy that can truly dominate a game like TO--even when they are trying to stop him. TO should be #2. Terry G should be in the top 10-15. Even Whitten could make a case for top 25 in "receiving" capability...even though I know it was limited to WRs. Heck Tim...let's pump it up by debating the greatest 25 WRs of all time...while u be bored still.

Posted by Paul @ 8:18 PM Mon, Jun 25, 2007

I will have to agree with the opinion of fellow posters that the notion of Terry Glenn not being among the top 25 receivers is absolutely absurd. Reggie Brown? Mark Clayton? this is an outrage.

Posted by Lance @ 10:15 PM Mon, Jun 25, 2007

T.O. is not a Top 5 receiver. Drops way too many passes in critical situations. The Pro Bowl omission was correct. The Santana Moss I saw when the Redskins played the Cowboys is miles ahead of Terry Glenn. I think Roy Williams is still chasing S. Moss.

Posted by MIKE @ 10:45 PM Mon, Jun 25, 2007

T.O is one the top 2 receivers in the league. Outside of the broken hand, he had a coach that really didn't like him. The drops...if a pass was thrown in his direction, they considered it a drop and the pass ended up in the stands. T.G..top ten for sure.

Just for the record, I don't think that there has EVER been a year when I was SO READY for FOOTBALL! Cowboys, of course, but also College!
Mavs out, Stars out, and Rangers...permanent Coma! EASE MY PAIN!

EDITOR'S NOTE: I also strongly encourage attending games on Friday night to enjoy the greatest high school football in the dadgum world!

Posted by Saint Jimmy @ 12:35 AM Tue, Jun 26, 2007

Lance, I guess you didn't read my stat about the drops. Can we both agree that ANY reciever who JUST broke his hand isn't going to be very good? Even the likes of Jerry Rice? If not, I suggest we take a hammer and bash your hand then have Troy Aikman rifle a bullet to you and see how you like it. Hell, I bet with 2 healthy hands you'd be crying after a one or two passes from Troy.

So take out the Redskin game where TO broke his hand and he has about 12 drops for the season. That would be the same as Steve Smith. And I don't hear anyone saying Steve Smith is a bum because he drops passes.

There is nothing in the world as good as going to Campisi's for the best Pizza in the world (Hamburger and onions),and a cold beer, and follow this by going to see a high school football game. Even better is to drive an hour north to to Sherman/Denison, or an hour west and see Jacksbore/Graham. Small town high school football makes for a great night!

Posted by Myke @ 8:41 AM Tue, Jun 26, 2007

T. Glenn should have been ranked in the top 25 for sure PERIOD. Some of these clowns ranked before him is ridiculous...(Calvin (no catches) Johnson, Mark Clayton, Deon Branch, Reggie Brown, Darrell Jackson) Give me a break. What is this writer smoking because I certainly don't want any of it.

Posted by Paul @ 11:35 AM Tue, Jun 26, 2007

Come on guys, high school football is great, when you are in high school. Please don't tell me you drive an hours distance to watch a game from a school that's not even your allmamater.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Lemme guess, Paul. You ain't a native Texan, right?

Posted by Paul @ 12:11 PM Tue, Jun 26, 2007

No Tim, as I wrongly assumed that Ernest T Bass was from Oklahoma due to his passionate defense of Roy Williams in an earlier post, five generations of my family are from the GREAT STATE OF TEXAS. I suppose I just have a life.

Posted by Hanker @ 2:18 PM Tue, Jun 26, 2007

Paul. Yes, I drive an hour to a football game, even when it's not my "allmamater". Maybe you hate high school football because you couldn't pass high school english!

Posted by gerald @ 2:31 PM Tue, Jun 26, 2007

Paul, "you just have a life"? So you're insulting 5 million Texans. My money says you're the type who doesn't miss a "rasslin" match at any costs. How many wrestling pay-per-views have you subscribed to this year?

Posted by Paul @ 2:49 PM Tue, Jun 26, 2007

Wanker, you probably should look into getting a girlfriend or some other meaningful hobby, instead of trying to relive past high school glory's pathetically trolling the stands on Friday nights.

Posted by Boyzfan4life @ 2:52 PM Tue, Jun 26, 2007

Tim, am I allowed to call Paul an idiot, or is this not allowed? If it is allowed...PAUL, YOU"RE AN IDIOT!. If it's not allowed, then I won't say it.

Posted by Paul @ 3:34 PM Tue, Jun 26, 2007

No, I can't say that I am familiar with "rasslin" or any variation of such a term. Are you familiar with bars, movie theaters, restaurants, or any number of other adult activities.

Posted by Hanker @ 3:37 PM Tue, Jun 26, 2007

Paul, I guess it's difficult to understand reliving the old high school days, when you're Still IN high school. I didn't realize I was dealing with an adolescent.
Lastly Paul, the Dallas county community college district offers some great english classes as part of their continuing education program. I would be more than happy to sponsor you.
boyzfan4life, I couldn't have said it better.
yours truly
Wanker

Paul, go back to Boston Moron! 10 million Texans can't be wrong.

Posted by Wanker @ 5:21 PM Tue, Jun 26, 2007

Paul, looks like YOU LOSE!
