Does anyone think that maybe the cowboys should step in and either pay for a marker or maybe set up some sort of foundation where cowboysfans like myself could donate money, its the least we can do

That's pitiful, he should have a headstone. Maybe someone from the Cowboys will step up and pay for one, its not that expensive. If I could afford it I would pay for it myself.

Great article but sad. I watched. maybe, all of Bob Hayes games playing for Dallas and can still see him in the open by two yards and waiting to see if the quarter back could hit him. They missed more than you like to hear but enough for 71 Tds. Hayes deserves the very best

Im suprise the all knowing Jerry Jones has not heard about this, Bob Hayes is one of the greatest cowboys to ever wear the uniform. Bob Hayes is the one person that I can say put the Cowboys into the limelight and onto national tv screens. Bob Hayes deserves a hole lot better than this. This is a travisty.

Shameful, that the Cowboys would allow a situation like this to occur.

C'mon Jerry -- now that you know about this, let the Cowboys organization purchase a headstone that befits this man!

Although I feel like it is not Jerry's responsibility, I think it would be a great thing for the Cowboy organization to provide assistance with this.
I would like to see his own family do something. Who would allow their own father to be laid to rest like that? I'm not going to speculate, but the same people who probably took his rings and medals should step up to the plate. Sounds like a bunch of crap coming from them in the story!
Jerry can't do everything, I guess he's going to have to do something for Crazy Ray as well? C'mon give Jerry a break with this one.

I'm a distant relative of Bob and the reason why I'm such a passionate Cowboy fan this day, the reason I've written over the years about Bob and the Boys to JJ, JJT, Mickey Spagnola, Tim Cowlishaw and untold others. Even I didn't know about this, and I still have my parents and others living there. They didn't know either. Yes, it's sad. But there is NO way that Mr. Jones and others in Dallas can be faulted. This is simply a matter of Jacksonville being neglectful and Bob's own immediate family not having the funds and/or focus...simple as that. Jerry, Roger, Robert Newhouse, Drew Pearson, and scores of former players have helped Bob far beyond the call of duty...right down to the day he died and the support to family at the funeral. Jerry put Bob in the ring and personally did things for Bob when Bob didn't play a down for him personally. But he loved the man and his contributions to his Brand. Cowboy fans...lets not assign blame, lets do something about it and open up our wallets and purses and contribute funds through DMN or a special fund to make sure that this is rectified. JJT.. Thanks so much and please let us know if DMN can help administratively to setup a fund and tell us where to send the checks.

When Iwas a kid, my dream was to grow up and be Bob Hayes. I didn't have any other sports heroes as a kid and this is just a travesty to me. Who can get some sort of Cowboys' donation going? Better yet, what would it take for Mr. Jones to simply pay for something like this with his spare change? I don't fault anyone in the Cowboys organization, but that doesn't mean they/we can't make it right. Bob Hayes changed NFL defense forever. Cant' someone step up and get a headstone for his body's resting place?

Damn right Jerry and the Cowboys should do something. There is no doubt in my mind that the vast number of Cowboys fans would not let this stand. Bob Hayes was a great olympian, cowboy and american and he should be honored properly.
I remember Bob Hayes as not only the greatest pure athlete to ever play for our beloved Dallas Cowboys, but in our community of kids he was the first African-American sports figure that we would pretend to be when playing sandlot and schoolground football. He was the first who we as white kids accepted without regard to race or color. For that positive impact on our lives, I, for one, will never forget him.
