On this date in 1997, two greats from the '90s said goodbye: Jay Novacek and Charles Haley. I wonder if anyone didn't get a note on the dress code for the press conference. |

When I was in Middle school and high school, I had the pleasure of going 7 times to Novaceck's football camp which was held at Tex A&M at Commerce (I believe the name has since changed). He may still hold the camp. Anyhow, he was a great professional and a very down to earth fellow. He came to eat pizza in my room several times and even called my girlfriend to humor her. I wish him well. He was also instrumental to the success of the 90s Boys--the big 3 owe him a lot.

Both players were monsters at there positions. When they retired Dallas could not duplicate their production on the field and it hurt. Now ten years later we finaly have two guys (Witten and Ware) that seem to fill the void that their retirement created and taking ten years to get them speaks volumes to the talent and impact they had.

"Their careers are unparalleled," Jones said. "They are destined to be in the Ring of Honor."
It's 10 years later...might be time to get on that. Haley's Niner genes might be too strong, but noone's gonna remember Novacek as anything other than a Cowboy.

I think Novacek has the right idea for a retirement press conference. Would rather see my heroes smiling and looking forward to the next journey of their lives than crying like a baby. And Novacek looks like he's ready to get out there with his kids and start enjoying his retirement.

I for one hope that Charles Haley won't be overlooked in the Ring of Honour. No question Jay is a lock, but Haley gave so much to this team also. His track record with another team, shouldn't overshadow his accomplishments here.

Any coincidence that Dallas has failed to win a playoff game since those two guys retired?
