Clearing up some Ellis stuff

Some of you have asked why the Cowboys can't put Greg Ellis on the physically unable to perform list. Here's why - the Cowboys needed to put him on the active PUP list before the first training camp practice. They considered it, but didn't because his rehab went so well. Yet he practiced the first day and hasn't been on the field since.

If he had been on PUP from the beginning, then the Cowboys could have kept him there for the first six weeks of the season and made a decision later.

Two things have stood out to me in this preseason. First is the lack of the safeties getting beat deep. Looks like Ken Hamlin has improved our secondary in that aspect. But what is even more impressive is how the QB's have performed in Garrett's offense. All of them, even Richard Bartel, put up some seriously impressive completion percentages.

Shame on the Greg & the Cowboys.

Enough of this! I believe now that Greg was calculating in his moves to only practice once then, forcing the Cowboys hands to either pay, trade or release him. Shame on you Greg, you agreed to your contract. I would not release Ellis, but I would trade him.

Carpenter was drafted to play OLB and should have been playing the position all camp with Spencer backing him up. Carpenter showed alot of promise and could have used the full camp to become more comfortable in the position. Shame on the Cowboys for not doing more to prepare for this situation.

What a stupid rule! A guy practices one day and you can't put him on the PUP list. One day! It's bad enough that you can only have 53 players and you have the salary cap, but this is over the top.

Saint Jimmy, I wish I was as optimistic about Garrett's offense as you are, but I look at points put on the board in the last two games and
I see 3 offensive touchdowns and a field goal.

I realize often there were 3rd teamers playing on offense but they were playing against 3rd teamers also. 24-offensive points total in 2 games is something to be concerned about.

Hopefully the offense will blow out the Giants and your optimism will be well placed.

I sort of agree with you Ted. something about the ellis situation stinks, even if its just his paranoia slowing down his rehab. And i agree that BC should have been playing all along. He ight not be flashy but he'll get the job done on 1st and 2nd down hopefully, leaving the door open for 93 on 3rds. but i'm still not worried about the lb's so much. i'm much more concerned with the cb's and who might back up ferg.

Another brilliant move by the Cowboys GM. Well, at least he didn't draft some player who was dead (which some GMs have done). But that is about the only dumb move he has managed to avoid.

Greg Ellis is done! Who is day to day for this long? come on...lets just hope Spencer can get in there and make some plays. We've drafted 75 linebackers in the last 3 years, SOMEONE has to step up and be comparable 10 year vet like ellis.
