As reported by Calvin "Lucky" Watkins, Greg Ellis heard the same thing from Dr. James Andrews that Cowboys trainers and doctors have been telling him recently. As a result, his retirement press conference has been postponed indefinitely. "Peace of mind that it will be OK, that's what I got from it," Ellis said of the second opinion. "Eventually, the pain will subside, and I should be able to continue to play football. Should be. But, you know, it’s the Achilles and a tough thing to deal with. It did help me out some yesterday, immensely." Ellis hadn't chatted with trainer Jim Maurer before being swarmed by reporters at the Hotel Intercontinental this morning, so he wasn't certain about his rehab plans. He said the pain from the bursitis in his repaired Achilles' tendon has subsided after he took it easy the last 10 days, when he only did treadmill work. Ellis called himself "week-to-week" and said he wasn't sure if he'd be ready for the season opener. "I don't rule it in, and I don't rule it out," Ellis said. "Do I want to play against the Giants? Of course I do. If I'm not out there, I think the team can win without Greg Ellis. "People say, 'Well, he thinks he's just God's gift to this football team.' I just want to have the opportunity to be a part of it, but I think with or without, the team will be good." |

Greg Ellis should try the diet I am on. I've been restricting myself to eating nothing but raw, dark green vegetables like spinach, mustard greens and celery. I am approaching 50 years of age and feel that I have the energy of a gorilla. I do feel quite studly. Do these guys have a nutritionalist involved with their diet? Does Greg's mother worry enough about his consumption of vegetables?

"Eventually, the pain will subside, and I should be able to continue to play football"
I never liked Bill Parcells but I have to wonder how Bill or Jimmy Johnson wold react to a statement like that?
He now knows he is OK, so either this guy "plays thru the pain" or I kick him off the team. This is just stupid!
Ellis is milking this for all its worth because of the Cowboys lack of "committment" to him and I for one and sick and tired of it. XX or get off the pot Ellis! Your good guy image is already shot to hell.

Jimmy Johnson RULES!!

Man, the guy ripped his achilles! Do you idiots not know what that means. This injury usually takes at least a year to fully recover. Sometimes that's not even enough.
I'd like to see what would happen if one of you little girls had the same injury happen.
You people are a bunch of laughable armchair quarterbacks.

Has anyone here ever been afflicted with bursitis? It hurts. A lot. It rendered me useless and pretty much singlehandedly resulted in the end to my brief and uneventful football career. Ellis is going to help us when he is healthy and GAME SHAPE... thats going to take a while, probably most of the regular season. Get the pressure off of him and let him recuperate, and he will help us win when it counts.

The way I look at it, and just like Rodney said, if Ellis comes back earlier than November then he's ahead of schedule from recovering from his injury.
Despite his seemingly annual grumblings about his paycheck, the fact that he was even on the field for that 10 minute period in training camp is a testament to his dedication to the game and the team.

Well Rodney, David, and donovan, I must apologize.
I am going on what the cowboys and their trainers say about Ellis, who has been day to day for a month.
But I forgot, from your den couch, you guys know much better than the cowboy trainers and doctors.
My apologies.

And Larry, it's easy to say from your "den couch" what Ellis should and shouldn't do when it's not your career or life-long passion that hangs in the balance. Also, Larry, Ellis has played through his share of pain. You don't play football that long and be that successful by being a wimp, Larry.
Achilles is still a dicey thing, Larry. There's no guarantees yet in the medical field on this one, Larry.

I just feel that Greg is probably drinking too much beer and eating way too many Doritos and dip. We didn't get babied like this back in the day even in peewee football. We either practiced or we died. Such pansys nowadays. Isn't this fellow supposed to be a linebacker? Geeze.
