Football wasn't fun for Bledsoe

I swiped the following Drew Bledsoe quote from Mosley's blog via a Patriots blog via the Whitefish (Montana) Review:

"The best day of my year was always the day after the season when we landed in Whitefish and I could feel myself exhale. Like the pressure was lifted off my shoulders -- a physical feeling when we would get into Whitefish. I always looked forward to that day every year and it never let me down. The worst day of my year was always that last day of my summer. I would sit on the dock at my house on Whitefish Lake with my legs dangling in the water before I would fly back on the plane to training camp."

Don't wanna turn this into a Bledsoe bashfest, but that sure doesn't sound like a guy who loved the game. That's one thing you can't question about Tony Romo, whose extracurricular activities are much cooler than his predecessor's.

It wasn't much fun watching Bledsoe play football either.

Nothing against Drew Bledsoe, but this may better illustrate why he bounced from New England to Buffalo to Dallas.

I believe the quarterback sets the tone for the entire team. If you have one who cannot wait until the season is over, there is a good chance that team will struggle under that type of leadership.

I wish Bledsoe the best, he is a good, family-oriented guy.

It definitely showed. He was never truly a winner. If he had been, he would have been looking forward to the next season.

Wow, just imagine what he could have accomplished if he would have really had a passion for the game. The man must have had a lot of raw talent.

I never got the impression he LOVED football. Lots of players like that in the NFL despite the fact that many of us woud give nearly anything to play this game at that level.

That aside, this guy is 7th all-time in passing yards and has nearly 300 touchdown passes. Cowboy fans (myself included) can diss this guy but the fact remains, he is one of the all time greats (stat wise) in a game we love.

Gees, what would he have done if his heart WAS in it?

Who cares if the guy wanted to get in the water and go fishing, etc. and that didn't make him a winner? Crap. I think that might be a pretty good idea after getting my head knocked around. Fresh air and fishing. Hmmm. Life needs balance. You guys are human, too, right?

Let's see... Bledsoe won 2 AFC title games. He got beat to a pulp over his 13 year career. Endured the toughest coach to play for not once, but twice. Even got his organs turned into goo and still came back again. Seems like a lot to go through for someone who doesn't care enough.

But hey, at least we found out how much Marino cared about the game: Not as much as Bledsoe considering he won 2 FEWER AFC title games.

But then again this all could have been a pathetic media spin job on an ENDORSEMENT FOR WHITEFISH LAKE!!!

Bledsoe was always a class act on and off the field. There was hardly a guy more snake bit by luck than Drew was, therefore it is easy to understand his sentiments. I think he did his best always and will think that until I hear him say differently. He did well for the fans of the Cowboys by agreeing to come here and play after the New England and Buffalo fiasco. Wish him all the best!

Mike, I agree that Bledsoe did tough it out through a lot - he deserves some credit for that.

BTW, Marino won ONE FEWER AFC title games - Dolphins played the 49ers in the 80's with Marino @ QB.

Wadeli, you sir are funny.

Touche, Artie. Point preserved, however.

How many of us "regular" folk say the same types of things without people questioning our hearts? No one would think twice if a lawyer or accountant said that he was looking forward to his vacation or that he was sad vacation was over and he had to go back to work.

Doesn't mean he didn't love the game or what he did. Maybe there were things he loved more, but who doesn't have things they love more than their job? No reason to question a guy's heart.

Nothing wrnog with a man enjoying a little fresh air and some good fishing. Big B gave it his all and I hope the big one don't get away.

This is interesting. On the one hand, Bledsoe's comments sound like a paid testimonial for Whitefish (My wife and I bought a piece of land here and we looooove it!!) and can almost be written off as such. But, he also had to know that saying something like this would cause a stink.

Are these his true feelings? I think that they are to an extent, but he also sounds a little like a jilted lover. You know: "Yeah my wife left me but look at how great I'm doing now. I don't need her!" Yes, he left football on his own terms, sort of. He could've come back as a backup, but he was a "star" and his time as a starter were over. That wasn't on his terms.

Think about it. In New England, his leaving coincided with unprecedented success for the team. In Buffalo, he was unceremoniously dumped. In Dallas, he threw his last NFL pass, a horrible INT, and wasn't even allowed to finish the game. After Romo took over, he looked like a pouting child on the sideline the rest of the year, even though it was nobody's fault but his own.

In short, I think he did love football more than what he's letting on here. But he felt like, ultimately, football didn't love him back and he's bitter, acting like that jilted lover who "never needed her anyway."

The real truth is that Bledsoe wanted to spend more time in the off season creating the biggest Burger ever
