T-Cow wants to wait and see with Bigg

Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

As far as I'm concerned, Jerry ought to start planning a Ring of Honor ceremony for Bigg Davis. I think the guy is going to be a great right guard for a long time, especially if Jason Garrett brainstorms a few guard-eligible plays.

Superstar columnist Tim Cowlishaw, on the other hand, is preaching patience before we bust out the anointing oil for Bigg.

One of several Cowboys questions from T-Cow's chat today:

Simon: Was Leonard Davis as dominant a guard in Arizona as he has shown early here in Dallas? If so, why in the world did Arizona let him get away? And, if not, what has changed to make him as dominant as he appears to be?

Tim Cowlishaw: Let's not get carried away with his dominance. He has played three quarters of a game, and it's the pre-season. Davis was an inconsistent player in Arizona which is why they were happy to let him go. He played on some bad offensive lines, and that can make it hard for an individual to look good. Let's wait and see before we anoint him with anything further.

I'm right in the middle. Bigg has looked impressive so far and was worth the money, but ask me again Week 8.

I see him in the "ring" in the New stadium.

Leonard Davis is a below average tackle and an above average guard.

As long as Dallas understands that, Davis will be productive.

Can someone tell me what the heck is the point of having a chat if his answers are going to be "let's wait and see". Of course we can wait and see, but people want his take on it now, however premature it might be. Something a little more creative to say might be, he's struggled in the past in pass blocking quicker DE's, which shouldn't be as much of a problem at guard. Or, I've seen him match up well against Ferguson, Spears, etc. in training camp - if that continues he should do well. But not the 'ol, "let's wait and see". If that's your take, then don't bother with a chat. And that definitely goes for JJT too - not sure why anyone would read his chats...

And yet, for being a slightly above average guard, he secured a bigger signing bonus than Larry Johnson. Jerry Jones sure showed the NFL on that one.

I agree with you, Timbo. I just hope he isn't moved over if/when Flo leaves.

Tom is ABSOLUTELY right. I mean, what is the point then? We'll wait and see... lol...
Way to show your knowledge of the game!!

Tom's right. Tim Cowlishaw knows next to nothing about this team. All he does is repeat the conventional opinions that everyone else has about the Cowboys. He even says "I can't say I've broken down film of Leonard Davis", which is code for "I have no clue what I'm talking about, but I feel comfortable repeating what others have said."

I agree Tom, but you've got to remember that we've been spoiled by the real Tim in Dallas, Mr. MacMahon. You know, the true journalist.

As I remember, LD was a very good guard in AZ. He was played out of position when moved to tackle. He was never quick enough for speed rushers, but a shutdown if he could engage. Leave him at guard and he may be a R of H player.

"Tim Cowlishaw: I would assume they would keep five wide receivers on the roster. I don't think there's much to like after the first three, though. Miles Austin, maybe. Sam Hurd, I'm still not sure."

I lost alot of respect for his perspective when it comes to the Cowboys after this response. I think guys like Austin and Hurd have played great in camp and he doesn't even mention Stanbach. His opinion of the state of the Cowboys seems less informed than ours and he is supposed to be the professional.
