The Cowboys have signed nose tackle Remi Ayodele to their 53-man roster Tuesday and placed Jason Ferguson on injured reserve. Ferguson suffered a torn right biceps in Sunday's season opener vs. the New York Giants and will have surgery on Friday. Ayodele, the younger brother of linebacker Akin, was among the Cowboys' final cuts coming out of training camp. The Cowboys hoped to put him on the practice squad, but he was claimed by Atlanta. The Falcons released Ayodele over the weekend, giving the Cowboys a chance to re-sign Ayodele. Ayodele, 6-2, 300, spent the spring playing in NFL Europa. He spent part of last year on the Cowboys' practice squad before he was released. |

I was wondering when he was going to get signed... Now we have some depth at the NT position!

I'd feel better about this if the brotehrs we were talikng about were named "Selmon."

I was kinda suprised he was cut during camp. I guess Dallas thought Bowens had more to offer playing both end and tackle. I think Ratliff will be fine so long as he gets breaks. He has a different body type and will need more rest than Fergie did.

The Cowboys get a player who is familiar with thier system. Not sure that is significant, considering the defensive performance Sunday night. The coaching staff must get serious in game preparation, and forget other matters.

So, I wonder if Remi will join brother Akin in being one of the new investors in Jerseyville, a West Plano sports restaurant formerly known as Doug & Bruski's. Akin was there Monday night, along with his partner. For those who live in the area, as I do, it's a great place. Just one question, Akin: Where have the breadsticks gone?
Posted by John Martin @ 4:29 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
How reliable is Remi? What are his upsides and downsides? Why did the Cowboys release him in the first place? Will he be able to contirbute or is this a stop gap measure of desperation?
Posted by richard @ 4:31 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
man dat is good to hear, at least we got someone that is familiar with the system (even a lil)...good news!

I am beginning to think that the Cowboys Brass believes everything will be A OK with the guys we got... SAD.. Tampa just signed CB Sammy Davis. who played 3 years in the Charger system and one year in SF which is Baltimore based... he's 6'1" 190lbs.. Why couldn't we use him... also available is Tory James.. 6'2" 200 Corner.. He is probably better than Henry is.. Why settle for small 5'10" Reeves.. we all Saw what happened !!

Question: Do players who are put on injured reserve during the preseason receive their full contract salary? How about players who are injured then released?
Posted by Gloria Gamez @ 4:44 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
This is great news signing up this Ayodele brother, I pray he is just as good as Jason was because we definitely need help with the Defense.
I pray Mr. Fix it(Wade Phillips) gets the Defense going.....because the Offense looks Great!

Another mistake by the cowboys. No one out there is using their heads at all regarding guys available on the open market.
Yes, you sign Remi, but you sign him to the practice squad as you originally intended, and you bring in a more experienced proven veteran like Kennedy to back up Ratliff.
That way you keep all your options open. If your veteran backup does not work out, you can still bring up Remi from the practice squad.
I give up. Reche Caldwell is now gone and I am sure someone will scoop up Tory James and Kennedy before long.

i was wondering where tank johnson is and if available why we are looking at him. calvin hill should be able to take care of the off the field stuff. woudl he be an upgrade to the players we are using now?

Patriots are Cheaters! Now hear this I say: The Patriots are a bunch of CHEATERS! According to Roger Goodell
Posted by jrs2300 @ 4:59 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
The Cowboys need to take a DRAFT APPROACH and sign the BEST FREE AGENT AVAILABLE and they ARENT and they are going to Suffer the Consequences for it !!!

Question is: can the 3-4 work without a run-stuffing widebody at the nose? But Ratliff does give us more speed and pressure up the middle. Spears, Canty, and the inside backers have to step up against the run, though.
Posted by Jrs2300 @ 5:25 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
Yes the 3-4 Can Work Roger BUT... BUT... you have to HAVE linebackers that can PLUG AND TACKLE do you trust Ayodele, and James to plug that Middle ?? I would like that.. Because I want a DT that wants to sack the QB and not just plug the middle..
Posted by Johnny @ 5:36 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
And whose roster spots are you genius' going to give up to sign James or Caldwell? We're better off seeing if the young guys can play. There's a reason those guys have been through multiple teams. Something isn't right somewhere. Everyone calm down and go play Madden '08 if you want to be GM.
Posted by Vox Veritas @ 5:58 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
Kennedy doesn't want to be a run stopper. He wants to live out his dream of being be a really fat, really slow pass rusher. Don't ask me why his opinion should matter, but it's why the Rams shipped him off to the Broncos for next to nothing and why the Broncos went with dinosaur Sam Adams over Kennedy.
Posted by dave j @ 6:01 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
I too wondered about Sammy Davis, but here's the deal. Wade was the defensive coordinator and Brian Stewart was the DB coach. I'm guessing (hoping) they were asked their opinion of Davis and didn't want him here.
That being said, the defense needs to get comfortable and fast. Part of the problem was that the players were not comfortable in the new system.
Remember this Parcells quote - "Knowledge breeds confidence and confidence lets you play faster."
Posted by Mike @ 6:13 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
Johnny, Caldwell could take Glenn's roster spot.
As for James, not sure why you'd bring in a 34 year-old DB that doesn't know our play book when we cut a 35-year old DB that knew it well.
Posted by dave j @ 6:24 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
This may sound stupid, but I just realized something - I probably heard Jay Ratliff's name more against the Giants that I heard Jason Ferguson's name in a game last year. While Ratliff doesn't have his size and isn't a prototypical nose tackle, maybe he is quicker and has a faster motor and he'll do fine.

Ayodele signing is a spotgap measure for the next week or two I think. He would not have been released at all if he were all that. I think Phillips and JJones look for a trade with a 3-4 team like San Diego to get one of their back-up NT who is really familiar with the system. Try Ryon Bingham at SD. 6-3, 305 and a wrestling background. In his 3rd year. I think that would be perfect if they could swing it.
Posted by Mike @ 7:31 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
Roger you ask a great question. It has yet to be seen that any version of the 3-4 can work at a championship level without a big body in the middle.
People forget that the Phillips Chargers did so well with 350lbs in the middle. That's just a fact.
Passing on Alan Branch was stupid. Look how bad Michigan is against the run now that he's gone. Not addressing this position 3 years in a row is inexcusable. We could have 6'5" 332lbs of 1st round talent as our centerpiece. But no.

Amazing how much more all of you "armchair GM's" know then the professionals that handle the team. We could be the Browns, or Oakland, or the Cardinals, or even Tampa Bay (jrs2300), or many other teams that are in alot worse condition on both sides of the ball.
The truth is that none of these players that some of you insist can help the team, can really help the team. That's why they've been out on the street to begin with. We just finished training camp. How about we stick with the team that was decided on when camp broke and the season started. That's why they kept the 53 that they did. They know the systems, and it's easier to plug them in. All the "street" players that you guys suggest weren't here for 6 weeks in order to be a Cowboy. And none of them are top tier players who could catch on quickly, or would be worth the wait.
Anytime that I need a good laugh, I can just come read some of your ridiculous posts.
Posted by Rodney in Nashville @ 8:05 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
And one more thing. Why don't all you drama queens hold your criticisms for when they actually make some sense? You'd think that we lost the game Sunday by reading a lot of your comments.
If the Cowboys don't make the playoffs, or if they don't win as many games as you think that they should have, then maybe your complaints might be valid. Right now, I'd rather enjoy this season at least for a little while.
Posted by Herson @ 8:12 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
tory james would be a great addition. This guy averages 5 picks a season. That can help this defense.
Posted by Mike Montana @ 9:00 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
I feel that signing Remi Adoyle is a choice because of the simple fact what he has showed "us" a true viewers and fans in the preseason and that is he can get a push up the middle and he could be that wide body in the middle that could stop the run and help others get sacks with his quickness. He's an solid player if you ask me.

What are the chances the Cowboys go after Tank Johnson?
Posted by Jim @ 9:43 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
Guys, when the number 1 guy goes down, the number 2 gets a chance to play. Sometimes he plays better than the number 1 guy. Have faith brothers.

Gee, I'm getting kinda misty...
Posted by Mike @ 11:46 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
Herson, James is 34. When did it become a good idea again to bring in 34 year-old DBs? I didn't get the memo on this. 31 teams weren't interested for a reason.
Everyone needs to quit panicking. This is embarrassing. You sound like Philly fans.
Posted by BJ @ 11:52 PM Tue, Sep 11, 2007
Jerry Jones is great owner but leaves a lot to be desired as a true GM..every one in the free world knew that a large weakness on this team was the secondary...

Rodney in Nashville,
I used to enjoy reading your posts, but recently you have become a pompous no-it-all and your postings are as rediculous as you suggest all the rest of us are.
You call us armchair QB's because we have the nerve to suggest some of the free agents out there could help the cowboys. Are you not being just as much an armchair QB when you say none of them can? No difference. Just a different armchair view.
You suggest the cowboys stand pat with their 53 while other teams are trying to improve their 53. Bill Parcells, as much as I disliked him, did not stand pat. He was constantly churning the bottom of the roster. Maybe you know more than he did because apparently he sort of agreed with us other Laughable fools that guys on the open market did stand a chance of helping the cowboys.
Maybe guys like Mark Colombo, Cory Proctor, and Joe Berger, who are only hear as a result of scouring the recycle bin.
Rodney, go back to posting items that can display your knowledge the game and good thoughts regarding same, which you certainly can do, and stop being such an "I know everything, you guys know nothing" kinda blog poster.

I'm glad Remi was signed because we needed a guy to rotate with Ratliff. I think our D-Line will be fine w/o Ferguson. Did anyone else see Akin run out of his gap on a lead play because he saw the LG,FB, and Ward coming straight at him? Worry about that kinda stuff guys.
