OLB Greg Ellis and CB Terence Newman are practicing today. Both sat out some of the drills during the 30 minutes the media was allowed to watch. Newman declined to talk to reporters today. Like last week, he'll wait until Friday to discuss whether he might be able to play with a partially torn plantar fascia in his right foot. Ellis, who is battling bursitis while recovering from a torn left Achilles tendon, said he still considers himself week-to-week. "I'm still having problems with it," Ellis said this morning. "I'll just see what I can fight through today." |

That is encouraging. I still think that both Ellis and Newman are a couple of weeks away.
Worst thing we could do is push them to play too early and set them back significantly. It's a long season and we want them around at the end of it.

OFF TOPIC:
Seeing Ellis' name reminded me of this question. Who on the Cowboys team is wearing the Captain's patch? Is it Ellis on D, and Glenn on O, and since they are both injured that is why I didn't notice anyone wearing them Sunday night? I didn't see Flo wearing it or Witten wearing it or Bradie James or even Roy Williams. Anyone know?

Greg and T-New,
We need you well more than we need you now. Heal those injuries, and come back when you're ready to let it rip. It's a long season and when the playoffs start we need you at 100%. Don't push it guys.

They should both rest this week. If Dallas can't beat the Dolphins without both players in the lineup, they have no hope of accomplishing anything this year. Save them for the Bears!!

Don't go crazy boys, we're gonna need you for week 3.
Sinclair - I don't think the Cowboys are wearing the C patch, it's not mandatory and I think they and a few other teams elected to have everyone at equal status uniform-wise.

Fighting through it is what Ellis should have been doing since training camp. He used to be one of my favorite players but his whineing the last few seasons and the fact that he hasn't even TRIED to practice until now has left me a little bitter towards him. It's NOT going to stop feeling uncomfortable until he uses it more in game type drills and in practice.

Sinclair, the C patch is optional. So there's no real telling who the captains are without some reporter out there telling us who they are (hint, hint DMN).
Bill in Dc, I'm right there with ya. I'm glad to see Newman and Ellis doing stuff with the team again. I believe we can get by without them this week so maybe we can "steal" another week of rest for those guys without putting a 1 in the L column.

Sit 'em as long as they need to. The Bears aren't exactly an offensive powerhouse. Ellis and Newman could rest and recover until possibly the Patriots game without putting this team in too much peril. By that time, their backups will be battle tested and ready for whatever happens down the stretch.

I think Spencer played well on Sunday night, so there's no need to rush Ellis back. We need Newman, but not against Miami. The Giants have far more weapons on offense than the Dolphins, and I think Reeves/Henry will be able to stay with Chambers and Booker.

Rodney in Nashville,
I used to enjoy reading your posts, but recently you have become a pompous know-it-all and your postings are as rediculous as you suggest all the rest of us are.
You call us armchair GM's because we have the nerve to suggest some of the free agents out there could help the cowboys. Are you not being just as much an armchair GM when you say none of them can? No difference. Just a different armchair view.
You suggest the cowboys stand pat with their 53 while other teams are trying to improve their 53. Bill Parcells, as much as I disliked him, did not stand pat. He was constantly churning the bottom of the roster. Maybe you know more than he did because apparently he sort of agreed with us other Laughable fools that guys on the open market did stand a chance of helping the cowboys.
Maybe guys like Mark Colombo, Cory Proctor, and Joe Berger, who are only here as a result of scouring the recycle bin.
Rodney, go back to posting items that can display your knowledge of the game and comments regarding same, which you certainly can do, and stop being such an "I know everything, you guys know nothing" kinda blog poster.

Newman will be back in 2-3 weeks. Ellis is done!

I agree with more rest than pushing these guys back too soon. However, I think we need Newman back by the Rams game because of Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce. (Not to mention that I am coming from St. Louis to watch the Rams lose!)

AMEN TO LARRY... BUT FREEDOM OF UNEDUCATED SPEECH TO RODNEY IN NASHVILLE
Posted by Hanker @ 3:48 PM Wed, Sep 12, 2007
Amen to that! I suggest he go back to Nashville and root for his mighty Titans.
Posted by Rodney in Nashville @ 4:44 PM Wed, Sep 12, 2007
Dang! Hurt me Larry! I'm going to take your back handed compliment under advisement. Frankly, I'm just tired of the drama and the whining from some people.
Hanker you are truly hilarious! I sign all my posts Rodney in Nashville because I live in Nashville, so there's really no need for me to "go back to Nashville." Secondly, I moved here from Texas a year ago, and I've been a Cowboy fan since I was old enough to say their name. About 40 years in all, so don't confuse my loyalties with those of the "mighty Titans" fans.
jrs2300, you speak for yourself, but I love you anyway.

I take it Nashille has no blogs that you can spread your pessimistic doom and gloom outlook with. Pity. But I am glad you find me funny! You need a sence of humor.
Posted by Rodney in Nashville @ 5:33 PM Wed, Sep 12, 2007
Doom and gloom outlook? Obviously you don't even know what you're talking about. The only thing that I've had a gloom and doom attitude about is the drama queens on this blog that think that the seasons over after the first game and the Cowboys won. Personally I'm happy with this team, and have pretty much overlooked some of the problems that could arise for now because it is still early in the season.
Hanker, you need to actually know what you're talking about when it comes to me before you open your big mouth. Your research is flawed because you actually haven't done any. If you had, then you wouldn't be shooting off your mouth about me the way that you have.
And once again so that your tiny brain can understand. I am a COWBOY FAN, which is why I hang out on this blog and not one in Nashville.

I for one agree with you Rodney in Nashville.

This is my first post, although I've been reading these posts for a long time. I must say, Rodney, you seem to be a sour puss who is never happy. Why must you judge everyone? Chill out dude! Reading these posts, I get the feeling no one likes you. The only thing you contribute are somber posts. I feel sorry for you.
Posted by Calhoun @ 10:53 PM Wed, Sep 12, 2007
I for one agree with Larry, Hanker, and jrs2300.
Of course you agree with Rodney, Ernest, errrrr, CAPITOLofTEXAS. You're both bookends of stupidity.
Posted by Rodney in Nashville @ 7:53 AM Thu, Sep 13, 2007
Roger, I don't care if anyone likes me. I'm not on here to make friends. The only people that I'm "a sour puss" to are the drama queens and knee jerkers on here that constantly preach that the sky is falling. Now those are the somber posters. Apparently you haven't been reading on here that long or you would realize that what you're saying is baseless. Again, I really don't care.
Don't feel sorry for me Roger. My life is great, and I couldn't be happier. Thanks for caring. Have a great day!

Rodney,
I am with you Brother. I have an upbeat feeling about the Team this year more so than in past years, and you seem to have the same attitude. I am not here to slam anybody but I do see what you are getting at about some posters here being whiners. yea, I saw the defensive problems but it is the first year of a new head coach, it will take time in real live games to adjust, especially with our injuries.
We are 1 and 0 for petes sake,Romo scored four TD's in the opener!
