Giants RB expects to whup Cowboys' [rear]

4:29 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007 |
Tim MacMahon   E-mail   News tips

A helpful reader e-mailed a gem from the New Jersey Star-Ledger's Giants blog.

RB Brandon Jacobs didn't feel like answering questions about Tiki Barber, so he decided to change the subject.

"But off of that subject," Jacobs said. "I think we're going to go to Dallas this Sunday and whup their [rear]."

Jacobs backed down a bit when given the chance, but I try to only post inflammatory quotes on this here blog.

Although it’s not a full assessment of completely everyone Wade’s Phillips style defense went against since 2004 – 2006 but just a few notable results of the RB’s weighing 230 lbs or over with at least 15 rushes that went against the Chargers Defense in the last 3 yrs and there rushing results

2006
Jamal Lewis 15 att 34 yds 2.3 avg
Steven Jackson 18 att 84 yds 4.7
Larry Johnson 28 att 132 yds 4.7 avg
Larry Johnson 19 att 84 yds 4.4 avg

2005
Jerome Bettis 17 att 54 yds 3.2 avg
Mike Anderson 15 att 49 yds 3.3 avg
Larry Johnson 32 att 131 yds 4.1 avg

2004
Brad Hoover 24 att 99 yds 4.1 avg
Larry Johnson 17 att 46 yds 2.7 avg
Deuce McAllister 16 att 63 yds 3.9 avg

So it looks like his defensive style has some success vs. bigger backs… which looks good for the Cowboys on Sunday

If this doesn't get our guys FIRED UP!!! Then we need to check their pulses and make sure they are still breathing.

Posted by Bradley @ 4:57 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

Tim, Please pass this article on to Bradie, DeMarcus, Roy, and the rest of the Cowboys D!! They MUST see it!

Posted by d wilson @ 5:15 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

1st off, i HATE THE GIANTS! Please Cowboy players dont let them get the best of us,stay focused, and please shut Big Head Jacobs up.O-LINE be prepared.Just think back 2 that Seattle game if we wanna remember what losing feels like. GETTING NERVOUS IN KY

Posted by bhud @ 5:23 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

All of those stats would mean something if Dallas had San Diego's personnel.

Posted by scott @ 5:32 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

Jacobs he will not even finish the season as the starter, let him talk.

Posted by BlueBleed @ 5:58 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

Beautiful......Outstanding Tmac.....Can you please print that and show it to the DEFENSE as soon as possible?....I like it when nobody's get out of place.....BlueBleed

Posted by tjakes @ 5:58 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

Jacobs was right. The Giants are going to whip the Cowgirls on Sunday. Badly.

Posted by gary @ 6:39 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

i hope dallas does not need anything, much less a comment from a rb not named emmitt, walter, gale, franco, or tony to fire them up...quite frankly, it's time to put up or shut up with this team...i'm tired of being concerned on whether or not they checked their intestinal fortitude at the door.

Posted by Ted @ 6:47 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

Giddeup!

Its time for football and smack talking. Thanks Brandon for firing your cap gun.

O' by the way Brandummy, I would like to introduce you to Mr Ferguson, Mr Canty and Mr Spears. They will be dining on your (rear) all night.

Posted by james muckleroy @ 7:34 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

God I hope the Cowboys smack the hell out of them. Can't stand strahan either. Maybe Wade figures he can put Eli on his back and disrupt them, but they better have very good coverage schemes. I can't deal with another depressing season. No more excuses. Unless it's.....oh we think we're ok at corner..blah blah blah...WAKE UP DALLAS!!! the skill players are at the wide reciever position---you gotta match up!! screw jacobs...then again, we got Nate "super-size" Jones ready to take him down...a future starter! Jesus, i hope we play like the first two preseason games, not the last ones...

Posted by derek @ 8:12 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

LOL! the more i think about MS. Jacobs the more i laugh.I remember when the giants were on the goal line and Mr. Roy Williams caused a lil fumble down there ooops! u better hope u dont bring your butterfingers to this game.
I hope we put BIGG in on some plays to show jacobs how to run,lol
By the way has plaxico boogers been talkn much lately,"Roy Williams is a 200lb ankle tackler" ill never forget that, Hey Roy show em whats up!

Posted by Joseph A @ 8:20 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

Doesn't Brandon Jacobs sound a little like Troy Hambrick. It's easy to run all over teams defenses when you're only in on third downs. What a jerk!!!

Posted by Mike @ 8:32 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

bhud good call. San Diego has a 350lb behemoth at NT that ensures that NOBODY runs up the middle.

It's easier to stop big slow RB's when they are forced to the outside.

Posted by Don @ 9:36 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

He better be ready to back it up on the field. Talking about it in the press won't get him anywhere.

Posted by Patrick @ 9:47 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

Does anybody know whether fans in other NFL cities are as nervous about their teams as some of us are about the Cowboys? I'm too lazy to look it up myself. All I know is that I was more optimistic in, like, 2002 than I am right now. I'm tired of this being a dysfunctional organization when it comes to personnel decisions. Gary, I agree with you. I'm about ready for this team to push somebody around for four whole quarters. I'm ready for a real football team in Dallas again.

Posted by Michael @ 10:45 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

Oh please, the Cowboys are going to win this game. My only wish is Hillary Clinton was playing for the Giants and she gets sacked by all of the Cowboys players

Posted by John Kochtosten @ 11:34 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

Patrick,

Regarding your hope for a real football team in Dallas again - well, you better hope that Jimmy returns. Jerry is about as sharp as a sack of wet mice. The question isn't whether the Cowboys will make the playoffs (they will not), rather the question is who's pick will be higher - Dallas' or Clevelands.

Posted by Tom H @ 11:51 PM Wed, Sep 05, 2007

right-on, bhud & Mike,

Am sick and tired of these SD comparisons when the
Cowboy's key D guys have lingering, season long
injuries. Cowboys don't need any "smack" talking
to get ready for the NYG, just hope they have the
healthy bodies to pull it off.

Posted by Mark @ 12:48 AM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

If the Cowboys need an off the cuff comment to get them fired up to play football, then they are in for a long season.

Posted by jrs2300 @ 2:10 AM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

For Bhud and Mike.. look up the Chargers Defense and look up the Cowboys. it's very similar but one difference.. Cowboys is much faster and had similar stats in everything except sacks using an non agressive defense.. now watch when they are aggressive what will happen. actually the cowboys is bigger in size than the Chargers due to Bill wanting them Big. Research fellas..

Posted by RR @ 2:22 AM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

You got that right John!

Posted by Goober @ 7:50 AM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

"Regarding your hope for a real football team in Dallas again - well, you better hope that Jimmy returns."

Yeah, he did such a great job in Miami.

Posted by Rodney in Nashville @ 8:29 AM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

Oh look, John the idiot from Denver, has flapped his gums again. I just want to see if you really have the cajones to stay on here and take your medicine later in the season. I seriously doubt it.

Posted by Mike @ 9:49 AM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

Does anybody remember Jacobs PANCAKING Roy Williams last year? It was the only time I have seen Roy get MANHANDLED ever. He was flat on his back. I think Jacobs has every right to talk smack. Let's just hope Roy doesn't get embarrassed again like last year!

Posted by Warden @ 10:23 AM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

I also remember Roy smacking Jacobs at the goal line and causing a fumble, I forget which game it was last year. Put Jacobs down for at least one fumble this Sunday; he runs straight up and is a nice target. He's a slightly better Troy Hambrick, not a game changer like Barber, with a big mouth for a guy who hasn't done squat in this league.

Posted by Goober @ 11:17 AM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

"I also remember Roy smacking Jacobs at the goal line and causing a fumble, I forget which game it was last year."

Yeah, RW smacked Jacobs really hard on about the one-foot line, then jumped on the ball. Awesome would-be game-saver with about a minute to go, had the offense been able to burn that minute off the clock. Jose Cortez FG in OT won the game. That was the '05 season.

Posted by Warden @ 11:31 AM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

Thanks Goober for clarifying. Hope it doesn't come down to OT again this year! I'm more worried about our D this game than our O; might have to win a shootout until we get back to full strength on D in a few weeks. If our O-Line plays a clean game, no way we lose. But Eli seems to play well against us for whatever reason, but a lot of his yards were dumpoffs to Barber, who then turned them into major gains. We need to hurry Manning and hit him as often as possible.

Posted by NDNMick @ 12:33 PM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

Jacob's comments need to on the front page of the DMN in BOLD for the next three days.

Execute on Offense,Dominate on Defense & STAY FOCUSED for 4 QTRS....GO COWBOYS!!

Posted by Tommy @ 1:40 PM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

Yeah I remember Roy causing that fumble, was a nice hit with the helmet hitting the ball...but I also remember Roy on more then one occasion having a clear one on one shot with Jacobs..and he got blown back 8 yards on one play Giving up a 1st down when the Giants needed 10 yards or so. And I also remember him getting slammed pretty hard by him another time getting put on his back. I would not go to say that Roy has his number at all, he has looked foolish a few times trying to tackle Jacobs

Posted by chuck @ 3:31 PM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

The Cowboys need Jimmy Johnson, who do the Giants need? Jeff Hostetler?

Posted by joe @ 5:35 PM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

thats it jacobs way to get fired up bout a game the giants will win that is not a doubt but who will be able to win more non divisinal games and i still think giants

Posted by bigdirks @ 9:12 PM Thu, Sep 06, 2007

Brad Hoover 24 att 99 yds 4.1 avg
Larry Johnson 32 att 131 yds 4.1 avg
Larry Johnson 28 att 132 yds 4.7 avg
thats all im saying you dallas cowgirl fans jacobs is faster then all of those guys to rofl you think he just a big back only guy hes probably slower then is jackson

Posted by Goober @ 9:54 AM Fri, Sep 07, 2007

oh yeah, Brandon Jacobs, 270 pound speedster hahahahahahaha 4.6 40 AT BEST you semi-literate tweeker fools.
