Receiver Terry Glenn suffered a new injury to his right knee this week and his status for the season opener is in question. Glenn had a cyst removed from his knee on Aug. 1 and just returned to practice on Wednesday. Glenn looked pretty good cutting during the 30-minute period that the media was allowed to watch practice. But today, Glenn wasn't at practice and Wade Phillips said Glenn has some swelling. We're not sure how long Glenn will be out, but it puts a strain on the wide receivers. Patrick Crayton steps up to the starting lineup and Sam Hurd moves into the No. 3 slot. Where Miles Austin and Isaiah Stanback fit also is to be determined. Austin probably gets more time than Stanback. If Glenn's injury means season-ending, and we're not saying it is right now, the Cowboys most likely will find a wideout to replace him. |

I already miss Urban.

I'm afraid not drafting a true speed wide receiver in the draft this year is about to come back and bite the Cowboys. Can only hope Austin and Hurd can step up to the challenge.

Early word is that it's a 2 week thing. But no telling with this coaching staff being even more coy with injuries than most other coaches.

this is quite odd...glenn has a cyst removed from the back of his knee and then he injures a knee cutting or running routes?..maybe the original injury wasn't quite as healed and he has since put too much pressure on his other while trying to regain strength...either way, crayton, hurd and austin better be ready.

Oh boy, I find it very interesting that the Team site had a story posted that was evidently pulled!!! it said "huge loss" stating that Terry Glenn was OUT FOR THE SEASON and was having microfracture surgery...why would they post it and then pull it??? am i the only one who saw it?? it was on Cowboys.com--still off to the side..then poof!!

on dallascowboys.com at 5:38 pm today there was a story that Glenn had to have microfracture surgery on the knee and was done for the year. It even used Jerry Jones as the source and that he was comparing it to Al Johnson's surgery a few years ago. It ruined my night but now they are reporting everywhere that it is 2 weeks and possibly more. Doesn't make sense but I hope it is only 2 because it would really be nice to have him for the Bears game in week 3

Crayton is not the problem. I think he is ready to set up big. Its whats behind him that should worry us. This doesnt sound good. We need to be looking for a wideout now.

The funny thing about Terry Glenn's injury is that it was supposed to be simply a removal of a cyst, but I wonder if things have been more serious; considering how this new regime likes to strecth the truth about injures. I think the WRs will be fine and we'll get to find out what Pat Crayton is made of. I have total confidence in Sam and Miles because they have good chemistry with Romo. Everyone don't forget about Witten and Fasano they'll take a lot of pressure off everyone. My only gripe is the coveting of Stanback because that cost us Urban, a WR able to actually get in the proper stance, produce, and return punts.

Well, I'm far from panicking. The more reps and experience Crayton gets, the better he will become. Nor am I concerned at this point about the depth behind him, although I hated to see Urban get released, too. I think Hurd has very good hands and an awful lot of potential as well. He just needs more experience and work. Ironically, he just happens to be the exact same size and a little faster than one other wide receiver of note -- Jerry Rice. Speed is great, but it isn't always what gets you open. Getting separation from the defender is what counts, and Crayton, Hurd, and Austin have shown that they have that ability. And they are all great targets. What they can't do, Whitten, Fasano and Curtis can. And, no, I haven't forgotten about Stanback. With him, it will just take more time. But his contribution will come.

We've all been waiting for this to happen for years now havent we? He's probably done for the year, and even if he isn't, what sort of shape is he going to be in come Week 4 with practically no TC work and poor timing with Romo? As much as it pains me to say it they should probably just IR (microfracture = career) him and try to move on with what we've got. Maybe add someone that might give us a little more ability to stretch the field.

I've been impressed with what I've seen from Crayton and Hurd. I think Crayton is a legitimate #2 and Hurd a #3. They've gone from stacked to average. If they have to go deeper than that we're in trouble Austin and Stanback are special teams quality only.

Where is Antonio Bryant? He has the speed to be a deep threat. I always thought Bill gave up on him a little too quickly.

I agree with Kirkules. Problem in the past or not. (Who wasn't a problem with Parcell's). Antonio Bryant is a true threat and would be ideal in this offense to stretch the field. His size, strength, youth, and speed make him a valuable piece to the Cowboys puzzle. Jerry and Wade need to take a deep breath and bring back a talented receiver who should have never left. He will mature, but he will have some episodes; but lets face it; who else is out there that can put up the numbers he did last year. Remember, not a lot of players got along with Parcell's and the former coach wasn't exactly interested in developing players that weren't considered "Parcell Guys" either. I have no say in it, but I'm all for bringing AB back. Besides his autograph I have will mean something to me again. Step up Crayton and Hurd!!

Let's put the truth out there...if DallasCowboys.com said he was out for the season, he is out for the season. The team would retract this story simply for the fact that they will have to sign another receiver. If that player knows they must have a WR, do you think he'll sign for the minimum?
Face it, Glenn is out for the year, and everyone was lied to regarding the "cyst" behind his knee. The team minimized the the knee injury for competitive reasons...his recent setback proves this fact.
I'm a huge Boys fan, but this team won't win 10 games.
