![]() LOUIS DeLUCA / DMN Nobody asked Roy Williams whether Aaron Glenn should be cut. And Williams isn't happy that the locker to his left is empty all the sudden. Williams was most vocal in expressing his displeasure that Glenn is gone. Several Cowboys said the 14-year veteran getting cut was a surprise. It's a unanimous opinion that Glenn's leadership will be missed. "I think he was an asset for us with his wisdom and his knowledge of the game, and the way he took care of the young guys," said Williams, who considered Glenn the team's third-best cornerback. "We learned a lot from him." Added Jacques Reeves, who moved up the depth chart with Glenn's departure: "He was a professional, a guy you could learn from, not just on the field but off the field." |

Sounds like ol' Roy can't coast anymore, that he's going to have to step up and be the kind of locker room presence that Aaron Glenn was. Sounds, too, like he knows it and doesn't like it one bit. Man up, Roy!

Lovely.
"Jaguars sign veteran cornerback Aaron Glenn for secondary depth
September 3, 2007
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Veteran cornerback Aaron Glenn signed with Jacksonville on Monday, two days after being cut by Dallas.
Glenn gives the Jaguars a fifth cornerback, playing behind starters Rashean Mathis and Brian Williams and possibly competing with Terry Cousin for the nickel role.
Jacksonville had planned to keep five cornerbacks, but released second-year player Dee Webb and journeyman Bruce Thornton in final roster cuts.
To make room on the roster, the Jags released guard Tutan Reyes.
The 35-year-old Glenn, a first-round draft pick by the New York Jets in 1994, has 635 career tackles and 40 interceptions. He spent eight seasons in New York, then played three years in Houston (2002-04) and two in Dallas (2005-06). He made the Pro Bowl in 2000 and 2001."

I was fortunate enough to play a round of golf with Aaron Glenn and Terence Newman on their off day last year in Oxnard CA...you couldn't find 2 nicer and normal guys who were playing with 2 total strangers...

Must make T-Bowles, B-Stew and the Cowboys coach named Wade who isn't suspended feel good that Biscuit seemed to be so dependent upon someone who wasn't even a coach, veteran though he was. Is Williams aware that imparting wisdom and knowledge is what they pay coaches for?
Hey...maybe this means we can blame Aaron Glenn for all of Roy's coverage problems...

why because roy doesn't want to take on the leadership role? i mean come on that's why he gets the big bucks roy SHOULD have been stepped up as one of our leaders WITH glenn, instead of still acting as if he's under the WING of glenn

Roy Williams maybe the most over-rated, over-loved athlete in Dallas sports history.
Can anyone player be so deficient at his job description (SS cover TE in the NFL) as to redo an entire Defense to suit his limited positive attributes (run and pass blitzing)?

I'm pissed off too....absolutely absurd roster move. Oh well, here we go again???? Wade is gonna learn real fast the displeasure of cowboy's fans if he starts losing....bad move, really stupifying... no excuse. For those of you who criticize Glenn, i'm not sure why you all are so out of it, but we are in even more muck at the corner now. How about trading our #1 next year for top tier corner. Who would help us on that!!

some of you morons really do miss the point. So you go after Roy!!! imbeciles.....nuff said.

Surprised, yes, but not too surprised. Given his age Glenn's game can only go one direction--down. Some of the pups out there, while not at a level that Glenn could play at given his experience, still made it tight and still have plenty of upside.
And poor Croy Baby Williams. Now who's going to tell him what the play call is and where he should go? Maybe he can borrow Brad Johnson's helmet and have Woody tell him via radio where to line up again, just like his rookie year.

This from the Baltimore blog:
A surprise name on the cut list is Evan Oglesby, who had worked with the second team as a cornerback during the offseason. He played in every game last year for the Ravens and was a special teams standout. "This is one of the toughest cut-downs we’ve ever done as a franchise,” said general manager Ozzie Newsome. “Several players we released today are going to be playing in the NFL this season."
If you are thinking more than one year at a time, I think you have to keep getting younger. Seems like Oglesby for Glenn might be a good trade.

You hope this isn't 2004 all over again, when the cornerback spot killed the Cowboys all year long. Aaron Glenn hadn't shown much during the preseason, but I think 13 years (or whatever) experience would have given him the benefit of the doubt. Plus, it isn't like the Cowboys are loaded with young talent at the position. Neither Reeves or Jones have established themselves in their three seasons here. Well, at least we know what will be targeted in next season's draft (hopefully, not like 2000. Dwayne Goodrich, Kareem Larrimore, yech).

Always seemed like (on every play) Glenn was exactly where he could make the play. I hope the new guy does'nt get burned over and over. It will be a long year watching opposing offenses victimize our secondary. I thought they would take a corner with first round pick. We'll see.

I don't remember AG always being in the right place, and at his age, while he might know where he needs to be, he can't get there. For the money, he just couldn't cut it. BTW, I have questioned many times if Big Roy cannot recognize his coverage duties or is physically unable to perform them.

I am angry they cut Aaron Glenn, who was at least the 3rd best cover guy on the team. I think they should have dumped Roy Williams instead....he can't cover his own shawdow!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As much as I agree it was a bad move to cut Glenn, these guys really do need to grow up. What babies.
