No practice for Newman

Terence Newman joined Greg Ellis to work with trainer Britt Brown off to the side during today's practice.

They were running, backpedaling and sliding side to side with that big, ol' elastic cord hitched to their waists. Newman did not make a hard plant on his injured right foot during the 30 minutes the media was allowed out there.

Semi-educated guess is that Newman guts it out and plays Sunday night. The big question will be how effective he can be.

I really don't see how a guy can play if he can't even plant on the foot. It seems now our entire season is hinging on how well we do without Newman. Well-coached teams like the Pats have been able to play well and get by with young guys. If this staff was worth it, they will have to do the same...I am beginning to wonder about Jerry's sanity....

Its all in the plan!

As Wade Phillips has said from day one when he was hired...his scheme will play to the strengths of the players. If T-New doesn't play on Sunday then rest assured Phillips staff has already prepared their game plan to accommodate for the strengths of Jaques Reeves or Nate Jones. As good as T-New is, the rest of his teammates have no choice but to step up and play to his level or at least attempt to. Even with the possibility of losing his talents for a few games the season cannot be considered a loss. Although the impact of losing Greg Ellis last year affected the the defensive performance to a degree, ultimately it was the team and Parecells conservative game calling that caused the team to underachieved. Keep the faith and know that the season still has yet to begin!!

Encouraging that he's able to do even that. 5 days ago he wasn't able to walk well.

I think this type of injury is one that, once you start to heal, you get full use back pretty quickly. The issue is how much pain you can stand during the process.

The "conservative" play calling from Parcells almost got the Cowboys to a winnable Divisional playoff game in Chicago. Who let Alexander through on the long run at the end, anyway??

Shelve him. He does us no good if he's going to play hurt all year long. People will attack him to no end. I'd rather let Anthony Henry play the Newman role and let the other CB get the help from safeties/scheme.

i would much rather see newman rest for 2, or 3, weeks and be availabe at 100% for the remainder of the year. i would feel better about having a totally healthy newman on a wild card team, than a one-legged newman (or none at all) on a division winner.

People are a little too tied up in this season opener. We lost the season opener last year in a disappointing start. We still had a solid season. More importantly would be having a 100% healthy Newman in December... and if all goes well January.

I had a similar foot injury as a running back in high school. It is a painful injury, but the doctor told me I could keep playing until it healed. Walking around on it was worse in the morning than when I played. I think Newman is going to be fine. He's a professional athlete who is constantly being monitored by trainers and doctors. He's gonna cowboy up and play at a pro-bowl level this year. You'll see.

Hey Rob, what are you spiking your Kool Aid with? Phillips will prepare a game plan to suit Reeves' or Jones' strenghts? Guess what? They have no strengths, otherwise they would not be fourth-stringers.

It wasn't conservative style that held the Cowboys back under Pork-cels, it was talent. It was spares like Jones, Spears, Carpenter, Kosier, Rivera, Burnett, Fasano, etc., not being worthy of their high-draft status or their big free agent contracts.
It was having an undrafted QB hailed as a franchise QB. Half of Homo's passes flutter like scared ducks. He thinks he's Brett Farve but his arm is as strong as Babe Laufenberg's.

If Ellis has tendinitis and Newman has a partial tear in the plantar fascitis, then why are they working out? Both ailments are most helped by rest, not continued stress.
