Columnist Kevin Sherrington was asked in today's chat about the surging New York Giants.

mcloving: Are the Giants as good as everyone is saying? Can they beat out the Cowboys for the NFC East crown?

Kevin Sherrington: Here's what makes the Giants so good: Pass rush. The Cowboys still don't have one nearly as good. Right now, you have to hope Tony Romo can outplay Eli Manning, which is a pretty good bet.

There is no question the Dallas Cowboys are a better football team than the New York Giants.

None whatsoever.

Dallas has:

1. a better offense
2. better special teams
3. a better run defense
4. an equal pass defense

Trust me on this, Dallas is going to win all three games against the East in the next three weeks.

The Cowboys are good and getting better.

Let's see. The Cowboys start 5-0 and all anyone in the media can talk about is that they havent beaten anyone. The Giants have a close game with Washington and beat the likes of the Jets, Falcons and the anemic offensively challenged 49'ers with Trent Dilfer behind center and they suddenly have the greatest defense to ever play the game? I'm not a homer Cowboy fan. I realize a lot of their success is due to their schedule. But I dont understand how it is suddenly a different standard that the Giants are held up to.

Hey, you wanna see some pass rush on the little darlin Eli,

By the time the boys play the Giants, both starting corners will be in place and Dallas
will have not only Ware, Ellis and Spencer but also big ol Tank Johnson.

How long has it been since the boys had 4 guys as capable as these guys on rushing the passer?

With the secondary starters all present and accounted for, I look for Phillips to turn these guys loose like we haven't seen yet this season.

The fact is that neither team has really beaten anyone of quality. They have to play who is on their schedule. The Giants lost to the only good team they played who was Dallas. They have an incredibily easy schedule and could potentially go undefeated after the Dallas game. The only way New England plays all their starters is if they are undefeated. The Giants have been hiding a very inferior defensive backfield with a fierce pass rush. If Romo can get the ball out fast or sidestep the rush the Giants are exposed.Dallas must start dominating the lesser oponents and beat the Giants. Their pass rush has been OK not dominate. Interestingly if the Giants were to win that game and then both teams win out I believe the Cowboys would win the division based on conference record. Obviously it is way too early and highly unlikely to occur.

Actually if NE isn't undefeated, then I think that they will be pushed hard by the Colts for home feild advantage. I wouldn't hand the game to the Giants just yet.

I think the Pats are going to go 14-2 personally. They're a dominating team but they aren't infallible.

I think the giants suck and will lose to the dolphins!!!

Giants have pass rush. They got most of their sacks against Philly (T30th 25), SF (T28th 24), Atlanta (T30th 25), and the Jets (T23rd 17). The stats listed are their ranking in how many sacks they've given up and how many actual sacks. The other two teams they faced don't give up many sacks. Cowboys (1 sack), Redskins (2 sacks), and Packers (2 sacks). 78% of their sacks came against piss poor offensive lines. Only 5 did not. Those teams they had fun sacking aren't going to be in the playoffs.

Timothy, Keep dreaming pretty boy.

Rodney:

Two things that are absolute facts.

1. You are right, I am pretty. Who am I kidding, I am flat-out handsome.

2. The Dallas Cowboys are the best team in the NFC and will prove to Philadelphia, New York and Washington in the next three weeks.

The Giants! Are we talking about the Giants!? I thought we played them already. Did we win? Lets talk about Philly. We haven't beaten them yet and we really really like it when we do.

Giants have two outstanding DE, but, they haven't played anyone either. Eagles probably their best test and Andy Reid left Winston Justice hanging against Umenyora. Don't put the Giants up there with the '85 Bears just yet.

Maybe this is a good thing! Maybe this talk will tick the Cowboys off enough to play better and play angry!! It's much easier to come into a game being the underdog then to be the one expected to win. The game in Buffalo was so horrible because everyone thought we should have won by 30 points. If we had a 1-3 record at the time...it would have been amazing!! Let's hope this ignites some fire...

Timothy...you're correct. The Cowboys are better than the Giants. The New York Press consists of Yankee sychophants who worship any team that has NY in front of it.
And as for Rodney...well, he's from Nashville.
I think we all know what that m-e-a-n-s!
