King agrees with you

Joining the overwhelming masses in championing the cause to give Marion Barber more touches, Sports Illustrated's Peter King had this to say this morning:

Marion Barber III's running the ball 12 times a game. That's not enough for one of the best 15 backs in football.

So there you have it. For the record, with the bye week, Barber fell from 12th to, yup, 15th in the league in rushing. Which means King really nailed it.

Interesting how he has leap frogged a 4-3 San Diego team to #3 in his rankings. That's a mighty big jump for one game...

He agrees with us? I have never seen a sports journalist that disliked the Cowboys as much as King does. How he could put the Chargers ahead of the Cowboys, and still keep his job is beyond me. I guess reputation goes a long way, but this is just stupidity, seriously. This isn't college football.

The Cowboys haven't had off games since the season started, and the New E. game wasn't an off game.

I can't see putting the Chargers ahead of the Giants! I know our opinions don't mean much to him, or pretty much anybody else in writer's authority, but this is just inexcusable.

So, what P.K. is saying is that he all of the sudden likes Norv Turner??

Albert, why did you post this knowing that we would check it and see his rankings? Whose side are you on?

Well, since King Peter is usually full of crapola, I'd say that's a good sign that Wade is handling the running backs perfectly right now. I like the rotation, no matter who starts. I'd rather see Barber fresh in the fourth quarter.

Posted by craig @ 12:48 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

The only thing I can say for King is that he correctly called in the preseason that Romo was going to start last year.

King is just like almost everyone else on this matter. They don't want to abandon the 2 back system but they'd like to see Barber get more touches.

peter king is a cowboy hater!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Rams Fans @ 1:10 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

YOU LEFT OUT THE PART WHERE KING SAID THAT THE RAMS WERE THE ODDS ON FAVORITE TO WIN THE NFC NEXT YEAR. HAD STEVEN JACKSON NOT BEEN INJURED, THE RAMS WOULD BE 6 AND 1,,,OR 7 AND 0. REMEMBER THAT COW-PUNKS!

Posted by Wayne @ 1:19 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

For the love of God Tim, use whatever influence you have left and have this loser banned from the blog.

Posted by Matt @ 1:22 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

What is Peter King's email address? I need some clarification on how a 4-3 team is ranked ahead of a 6-1 team. Granted their performance against the Texans was impressive, but they were playing THE TEXANS!

Don't feed the troll.

Posted by Ricardo @ 1:44 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

You guys are really something...
On the same article, he said we're going to the superbowl.
Stop wishing that every writer thinks the cowboys are the best team in the league. So what if S.D. is ranked ahead of us... that doesn't mean anything untill the S.B. is played.
Stop caring about other people's opinions and let's enjoy our great football team

Posted by Lee @ 1:54 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

I agree with Ricardo. Polls don't mean anything in the NFL. Won-loss record is all that counts at the end of the regular season, and then unlike the stupid NCAA we have playoff games to decide who's best. So "power" rankings are meaningless, and quite frankly, I would rather have the Cowboys underestimated than overestimated.

BTW, I think "Rams Fans" is what we call a parody troll. At least for his sake, I hope he is.

Posted by Wayne @ 1:58 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

I hate too admit it, but Rams Fans is right. I read it too

Posted by Mike in Corpus @ 2:15 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

Rams Fan, you're back again. Did'nt yall just get your asses WHIPPED UP by, of all teams, the Browns? Yeah go ahead and pin your dreams on next year, maggot, cause you'll have to come thru the Cowboys to get there and we'll have another can of whup-ass ready to open up for ya.

Posted by KsDalFan @ 2:50 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

Rankings don't mean crap in the Pro's. There is not BCS bull here. If you play in the post season it is play til you win it all.

Posted by Matt @ 3:03 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

I know rankings dont mean anything in the NFL. I am just curious on the reasoning behind ranking a 4-3 team ahead of a 6-1 team. I would question anyone's common sense if they told me San Diego was better than Dallas. I really would like an itemized breakdown from Peter King telling me why San Diego, who has lost 3 times, is better than the Dallas Cowboys whose only loss was to the best team the league has seen in 50 years!

Posted by Pokes @ 3:03 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

I think Peter King is just buttering us up for the eagle game. Friday he then will pull another story out of his derrier about the cowboys that will motivate the eagles.

Posted by RevDlux @ 4:03 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

is RAMS FANS an idiot or just living in la la land. THe Rams might be 3-4 with 3 Steven Jacksons. They totally suck! The worst team in the league and you are telling me one guy would make the difference? BS! IF the Rams play the Dolphins I would take the Dolphins and give some points. Besides, what could have been or what should have been don't mean CRAP.

Posted by DougO @ 5:18 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

Craig, don't forget, King Peter also said Romo would be ineffective this season, since teams now had tape on him and knew all his weaknesses.

"I have never seen a sports journalist that disliked the Cowboys as much as King does."

Ha! Have you ever heard of this guy named Skip Bayless? I hate this guy with a purple passion... He absolutely hates the Cowboys... And Al Micheals isn't far behind... Micheals' tries to be professional, but his dislike for Dallas sneaks out from time to time... Bayless doesn't even try to be professional.

Posted by Pokes @ 6:51 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

Ironically Skip used to write for DMN, and in the day wrote only bad stuff about Landry, couldnt stand Landry. He also labels T.O. "team obliterator", even after his good behavior this year. This guy thinks he is gods gift to journalism. I get a good laugh when I hear his comments

Posted by Kyle @ 7:41 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

One of the best 15? Damned by faint praise.

Posted by the cooler @ 11:28 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

the shave and a haircut barber really does need to get the ball more, i mean, the guy is awesome, hurt shoulder or not, the guy is one of the best, if not the best back in the league today

Barber's rookie contract will expire after the season, and we're hearing that there is no effort toward any type of an extension.

Barber will be eligible for restricted free agency. But while G.M. Jerry Jones can protect Romo from being pilfered in exchange for two first-round draft picks by using the exclusive version of the franchise tag, no such device is available to keep Barber on the team.

The most the Cowboys can do is apply the highest possible tender offer, which will fix the compensation at a first-round pick and a third-round pick.

For a team that picks in the bottom half of the 32 teams, it might be very tempting to give up the picks and put on paper a poison pill offer sheet that guarantees every penny of a $50 million contract if he plays at least four games with a silver helmet bearing a blue star on his head.

The Packers, for example, would be an ideal destination. And the higher Green Bay climbs in the postseason, the more attractive it will be for the team to give up a couple of their picks.

As to the Cowboys, their other top-level running back (Julius Jones) will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. But it could be that Jones wants to see where that first-round pick he pilfered from the Browns for Brady Quinn lands on the board, since Jones might opt to let Jones walk and to take the extra picks for Barber if Jones thinks he can land Darren McFadden.
