Rick "Goose" Gosselin says in this week's From the 50 that the AFC South is the best division in the NFL.

He also has a couple of Cowboys-related items, including a review of the book Greatest Team Ever, by Norm Hitzges and Ron St. Angelo.

You can receive From the 50 via e-mail (for free) every Tuesday during the season. Go here to sign up.

For once, I can't argue much with Goose. The one issue I take is the statement that VY is the best young QB. Let's not get carried away here. I love VY, but even a Longhorns homer can admit he isn't the best young QB. Hey, Goose, have you ever heard of that Tony Romo guy? The only area VY has an advantage is in rushing. So, I guess if you like a QB that can run the ball and never win the Super Bowl, VY is your man. Otherwise, Romo is tops.

Goose is just coming to this realization about the AFC South? I called it before the season even began and have the Titans making the playoffs.

Goose is about two weeks behind as always, he doesn't predict anymore, he just states the obvious because he cant seem to get the predicting thing down. Mr "Lame Duck" Gosslin is what he is.

And how about his pick of Dallas in the Superbowl, huh? Sorry, Goose, there's no room left at the inn.

What a surprise!! Some Cowboy related stuff from a Dallas area sports writer. What are the odds?? I guess the Goose was just bored.

Brandon,

You may be an NFL guru yourself, but you're probably no guru in the English languague.

When somebody discusses "young QBs", it means you have to be "young" to be in the discussion. Do you realize that Romo is as old as Carson Palmer, who's been a 4-time Pro Bowler? Romo is also two years older than Ben Roethlisberger, who already won a SuperBowl. There are 13 starting QBs who are youner than Romo. If you want to include Romo in the "young QB" discussion, you'd probably have to include Brady and McNabb in there.

As far as Vince Young, all he ever does is win at every level. You think Romo could have beat USC by himself?

Mr. Rogers,

I love VY as much as anyone else, but I haven't deluded myself into thinking he beat USC all by himself. He had quite possibly the most amazing performance by a player in a championship ever, but to say he won the game by himself is to disrespect the rest of the team. So far, there have been 13 players drafted off of that team including 7 in the first 2 rounds. The whole freakin' secondary was drafted, 3 of them in the first round. Yet, you think VY beat USC all by himself. I suppose the rest of the team stood around not blocking, not running the ball, and not catching passes. I suppose the defense didn't really stop USC on the key 4th and short which would have sealed the win for USC. I suppose the defense didn't keep the awesome USC offense in check the whole game. Brilliant, Mr. Rogers, just brilliant.

As for "young" QB's, you can look at that as young in age or young in experience. Romo has 15 starts to VY's 16. Romo has thrown passes in 16 games to VY's 18. Yet, Romo's stats are better in every category other than rushing. Sorry, I'll take Romo every time.

And as for this mythical quality of "all he ever does is win at every level"-ness, give me a break. At some point, that isn't enough. Funny, I didn't see him hoisting a championship trophy last year? Why was that, if all he ever does is win? You might say that it was due to the team around him, but then that wouldn't fit with your asinine premise that VY wins games all by himself. So, now you are left with either admitting VY doesn't always win or that he doesn't win games all by himself. So, which statement are you going to disavow? Ought to be both, but I'll let you choose.

I downloaded the Rams postgame show to listen to on my Ipod. Hitzges (and whoever the other doofus is) stink. What happened to Drew?

Posted by RL @ 12:22 PM Wed, Oct 03, 2007

Sorry, but Vince Young is a "young quarterback" compared to Tony Romo. Their number of NFL starts not withstanding, Romo has been in the NFL 3 years longer than Vince Young has. So to be fair, let's see where Young is in 3 years compared to where Romo is now.

And yeah, the Cowboys postgame radio show is rather lousy. Hitzges, is well...Hitzges, and Greg Williams is just plain clueless and ignorant as always.

WHEN THEY MAKE THE MADE FOR TV MOVIE ABOUT THE CAREER OF THE BEST NFL WRITER IN THE COUNTRY, IS BILLY BOB THORNTON SLATED FOR THAT ROLE?

Look at the big brain on Brandon! Well said.
