Tuna Tradition

Before today's practice, WR Terrell Owens was "flapping his wings" the way he used to in a Philly uniform. And it caused a small breakout of "flying" in the stretching lines.

It just a small piece of the Cowboys-Eagles rivalry. Here's another new one. Over the last few years, Bill Parcells developed a penchant for coming to players during Philly week and snapping to them, "Do you know who Swoop is?" After Tuna explained that it was the mascot that flies in on a string while the Rocky music is playing before games, he'd add this:

"Swoop is coming in here to kick your tail!"

And that has carried over. This morning, some vets were all over the rookies at practice for not knowing "Swoop."

"We say it to the young guys, 'Do you know who Swoop is?'" said special teams captain Keith Davis. "We have a little fun with them. We know Philly’s gonna be a tough task for us."

I have a hunch Parcells used a word slightly stronger than "tail".

JUST HEARD ROMO SIGNED 6 YEARS 67.5 MIL ON ESPN RADIO

Posted by Steven @ 5:07 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

Just saw Mortensen report Romo signed a 6 yr/ 67.5 million dollar deal. Is this true? Come on guys we need news!!!

Posted by Not So Crazy Ray @ 5:07 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

Just saw Chris Mortensen report that Romo signed a 6 yr/$67.5 contract, with $31M guaranteed. Get on it, Tim and the rest of the crew!

Posted by HT @ 5:09 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

How bout some information on the Romo contract?

Posted by Steven K. @ 5:11 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

Romo just signed a new contract reports ESPN!! 6 years, 67 million...

way to get scooped by the talking heads...

Posted by Not So Crazy Ray @ 5:12 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

My theory is that they got scooped because they've been spending all morning on this Britney Spears crap.

Posted by Brandon in Connecticut @ 5:15 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

This is just the thing I needed to finally prove to one and all that this blog has completely jumped the shark.

Our own BEAT writers, who are supposed to eat, breathe and drink the Dallas Cowboys, are scooped yet again by the ESPN mediots.

On another note. CONGRATULATIONS ROMO!!!!!!!

Wow.10 minutes later and still no information...who in the hell is steerin this ship anyway? Someone is asleep at the controls...

Posted by Not So Crazy Ray @ 5:17 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

I think it's pretty easy to see that ESPN scooped them because these guys were wasting this morning on the Britney talk. To paraphrase George W. Bush during Katrina..."you're doing a heckuva job, Timmy!"

Posted by Steven @ 5:21 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

Cmon guys Werder is breaking this story all the way from Denver! Whats going on over there guys!!

Posted by Brandon in Connecticut @ 5:21 PM Mon, Oct 29, 2007

Ok, I may give them a slight respite if they are waiting for confirmation on the story.

Every one else is quick to mention the contract info is all rumor so far.

Jebus...why are there so many angry comments every single day? Do you guys realize NO other paper around the country blogs as well as this one? We've got 4-5 different writers contributing. We have multiple threads going every day and all anyone does is cry about this or that topic when 90% of it is football related. 10% topic change is fine with me. If you want breaking news, grab a RSS feed or something.
