Three for Dallas: 1. Four or fewer: The more I look at this matchup, the more I think the Packers are going to be able to get the one-on-ones they want against the Cowboys pass defense. So I’m thinking now that it’s imperative that Dallas can generate heat on Brett Favre with four or few rushers, so as to commit more players to coverage and avoid tossing their corner to the wolves. Will it be easy? No. Favre is one of the least sacked quarterbacks in the league. So the idea of DeMarcus Ware and Greg Ellis padding their numbers today is a pipe dream. But what they can do is force him make quick decision, and unloaded the ball fast enough to keep the Packers from striking downfield. 2 Defend the Pass: Wade Phillips’ thing defensively is to stop the run. And I know that Ryan Grant has made the Packers ground game more potent. But come on. The Cowboys should treat this game like they should’ve treated the Patriots game: Let ’em run. In fact, I think the team should start the game in the nickel, with Roy Williams and Kevin Burnett at linebacker, Patrick Watkins and Ken Hamlin at safety and three corners on the field, and stay in it for most of the night. If you have to man the Packers’ receivers up with corners, man ’em up. Just give them help over the top. 3. Test the corners: This requires, first of all, the Cowboy receivers getting off the jam and into their routes. Do that, and protect, and there should be plays to be made on the Packer corners, especially if the releases are quick and Tony Romo makes swift decisions. |
