Cowboys topping the charts

Not that this should come as any kind of surprise, but the Cowboys were again a network's dream last weekend. By joining the Redskins in drawing 23.1 million viewers, the rivalry game was Fox's most watched program of the week, outdistancing stiff competition from "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?", "Kitchen Nightmares" and "Don't Forget the Lyrics."

In the period from Sept. 6 to today, the NFL has had six of the seven most viewed programs on TV. Four of those six, and four of the top 6 overall involved the Cowboys. Here's the list:

1. Nov. 4 -- CBS Sunday National (mostly Patriots-Colts) -- 33.8 million
2. Oct. 14 -- CBS Sunday National (mostly Patriots-Cowboys) -- 29.1 million
3. Sept. 27 -- CSI (season premiere) -- 25.4 million
4. Nov. 11 -- FOX Sunday National (mostly Cowboys-NY Giants) -- 25.1 million
5. Nov. 18 -- FOX Sunday National (mostly Redskins-Cowboys) -- 23.8 million
6. Oct. 21 -- FOX Sunday National (mostly Vikings-Cowboys) --23.6 million

7. Sept. 9 -- FOX Sunday National (mostly Bears-Chargers) -- 22.1 million

Obviously, if you looked at this objectively, each game is 3 hours plus 1/2 hour pre game or post game. that's 3.5 hours or 7 half hour time slots. A show like Seinfeld did 25 episodes per year. So 4 games are like a whole season for the seinfeld show. Therefore the Cowboys are the numebr #1 show on television. Its too bad they are not marketed seperately in a special network package like notre dumb.

Yeah... and I wonder what the numbers would be if next Thursday night's game between our heroes and the FudgePackers would be on broadcast TV and not the stupid NFL Network?!?

Albert,

Doesn't it make you scratch your head? Wondering how a team like the Patriots, who by any standard, is playing better than any team in recent history, doesn't have the market that the Cowboys have?

People don't believe me, though the statistics speak for themselves, that the popularity of the NFL rises and falls with the success of the Dallas Cowboys. This is especially true when it comes to tv ratings.

Want more proof? If the Boys' do make it to the superbowl, watch the different avenues of coverage; whether tv, radio, or even the local news paper, and see how much is written about the Patriots, as compared to the Cowboys - even if the Cowboys are picked to lose.

I will also wager that that game will, hands down, be the most watched superbowl, and quite possibly the most watched television program in tv history.

Just watch...

No surprise. Dallas is America's team for a reason. They've always had large number of fans (and haters) all over the country. They're like the NY Yankees, you either love them or hate them but you will watch them either way.

The Cowboys are Europe's Team too. Over here we get 4 Live-Games a week and only 1 of the 16 Cowboys-Games won't be televised.
