Jones won't hold back

An old NFL axiom: "Yes, this is a big game, because it's the next game."

The truth this week: The Cowboys-Packers showdown is a big one, and the fact that it's the next one isn't why. Give Dallas owner/GM Jerry Jones credit for not skirting that.

"It’s certainly the most significant game at this stadium since the last time we played Brett Favre and Green Bay in the NFC Championship Game," Jones said. "Anybody who would tell you it’s a season-ender if you lose it, doesn’t understand what 10-2 is in the NFL. ... It really hasn’t been all that good to us in Green Bay. In that sense, it’s important."

Jones, of course, is talking about the home-field advantage implications this one carries. And he made no secret that while losing won't mean it's time to draw the shades on this season, he would rather not have the NFC Championship Game played at Lambeau Field.

With a wide smile, he said, "Green Bay is intimidating to me. ...… It’s stark, it’s usually not one of the sunny days (when we're) up there, compared to the friendly confines of home."

As far as the biggest regular-season games he's been around for, Jones said this is probably the biggest one since Elvis Grbac led the Niners past the Cowboys in Irving in 1995, though he did give a nod to the magnitude of dealing the Colts their first loss last November.

Green Bay's defense has me concerned.

Corners Woodson (ankle) and Harris could frustrate TO. And sack master Kampman and his second, KGB, could penetrate the line like we haven't seen. Even worse, it could mean Witten is assigned to blocking duty.

On our side, Wade is good, but not on par with the LB unit on Green Bay, including that mean man Barnett.

I'm a little pale.

They are making this game out to be the Super Bowl. What happens if the beat Green Bay, then go on to lose to the Lions and Eagles - it won't matter!!!!!

Do they need this game for the big picture - yes?

Have the proven they can win in December? no!

It's right to be concerned about Green Bay.

We'd be insane not to be.

BUT they've EQUAL reasons to be concerned about us.

I saw grbac frerotte and lucas beat the cowboys live all backups. It was sad. If it wasn't for the official beer of the dallas cowboys i would have suffered from post traumatic stress disorder.

TSMITH, beer does have its usages.

All hail beer, all hail our glorious forefathers who stomped prohibition into the dust, as the ridiculous, anti-Western, anti-American idea that it was.

Jerry Jones ought to open a microbrewery.

I trust that Jerry would get the right people to brew his beer, and the right people to brew his seasonal beers.

And then JJ could hold a yearly beer tasting contest, and he could invite the members of the DMN Sports Bureau to be the judges. And the Cheerleaders could stop by too.

Yea. I like that idea.

In Philadelphia they have THE WING BOWL, which coincides with the Super Bowl. It's a wing eating contest that makes people who simply see news reports on it want to hurl. It's a typical Philadelphia thing, and it was born by a sportswriter quip that Philadelphia should hold a wing eating "bowl," in as much as they couldn't get to the REAL bowl. And thus Wing Bowl was born, from Philadelphia's self conscious awareness that they're a city of losers.

If we loose Thursday, it will be because of those throw-back uniforms we will be wearing. I don't think we ever won a game while wearing that rag tag uniform and helmet. It's even worse than wearing our blue jerseys. However, we have won some games wearing the blue ones. We beat Philadelphia at their house with those jerseys, but even that didn't help the Iggles. We have lost more games wearing the blue jerseys than weraing our white ones with our silver helmets. I hope the Boys can overcome this obsticle. We should have wore that goofy get-up against the Jets. Good grief, Charlie Brown.
